So helpful. I work 7 day stretches, 10 hrs a day and before running out the door, I make a parfait or smoothie but my berries are moldy in 2-3 days! I wish I found this out earlier but from now on I'm doing this
Hello Kristin, thank you so much for sharing!! I've been doing this with my strawberries and blueberries but never thought of using a towel to help dry them, I've been using paper towels and now I see I've been wasting paper towels!! Thank you again!!❤️
I always rinse my grapes, and blueberries with water then add some baking soda to remove any coating on the outside then soak in vinegar water. To strawberries I only do a quick vinegar wash about a minute since they are like sponges then pat dry with paper towel.
I pull the leaves off before cleaning. Then before eating, I cut them in half, then cut a V out of the top of each half removing as little as possible of the red.
hey there i like to tell you that you can keep it in fridge longer too strawberry and raspberry use the containers they come in empty them in a bowl put a paper towel on the bottom and add rice about 2 in then put them back in they will last longer if it works for a phone to get the moisture out it does work Toby
I use a lot more vinegar, close to 50-50 and I do not rinse them, I simply dry them on a single layer paper towels top and bottom and then store them and they don’t get moldy. I simply rinse them before eating to get any vinegar taste off.
@@chrisharder4854 Common sense and critical thinking skills will tell you that exactly how long berries will last depends on many factors such as how fresh they were when you got them, the exact temperature of your refrigerator not to mention the humidity level. Is that specific enough for you?
Hi! So I’m confused if I’m planning to use the raspberries in the upcoming days how should I washed them? 😢 just with water ? And vinegar as well? Thank you for the tips !

Hi! where is your salad spinner from? Can you link it? Also, is the vinegar safe to eat for babies? if we are washing it like this for our baby? thanks so much!
I need help. I freezed blueberries, blackberries, strawberries. Washed them all, got rid of excess water using paper towel. There were a couple blackberries slightly softened (crushed) but I am sure they were all fresh. Also sliced strawberries, there were some water resulted from slicing and I thought it was not an issue to concern. After I unfreeze the mix and ate, there was a huge throat burning sourness and the taste overall was very unpleasant. At what point I made the mistake and caused the sourness, looking for a pro to diagnose :) Thanks in advance.
Thank you for this helpful video, However if you place berries or any other fruit inside a sealed container you will stop its respiration process due to the lack of oxygen causing the fruit to decay probably even faster. This is one of the reason manufactures place them inside containers with little openings. Hope this help
From my experience, if I put berries in an airtight Mason jar they last faaarrr longer than when they have access to air. Like 3 to 4 weeks for strawberries! Thats the longest I've ever had berries without them going bad 😂
I buy my strawberries first of the month and they stay good for 2 to 3 weeks i don't do any thing special they don't go bad i turn mine over to the body and i switch them ever other day
Man It was only a couple days that I bought my blueberries , I was just eating them now and saw they had this cute fuzzy white stuff over some.... just to learn that's not no cute white fuzz -.-
I'm just not buying raspberries anymore .they last 3 days max before I see mold. I'll try putting them in an airtight container before I totally give up.
Raspberries actually freeze very well, as do blueberries. I don't like how strawberries freeze, however. When i lived in Anchorage, Alaska, i would pick about a gallon of raspberries per day from my mom's yard every August. I gently just rinsed and dried them thoroughly, then put them in freezer bags, removing all the air, and popped them in the freezer. I made raspberry cheesecake every Christmas...so good! We also made freezer jam.
I was just saying today how when we were young in the fifties we used to eat blackberries raspberries from the bushes at the side of the road in the countryside no washing just red and purple around our mouths when we got home i suppose now that was organic😊
I totally do love my salad spinner that I use on my greens... but I’m confused why you used it soaking the berries... I didn’t see you spin it? Did I miss something? I don’t see why a bowl wouldn’t do the same thing??
I find it easier than a bowl because you can put the berries in the basket portion, fill the spinner bowl with the basket and berries inside and then when you’re done soaking just pick up the basket to drain and rinse the rinse the berries under water. So it's not used for the drying aspect in this case, just for the easy to use nature of soaking and draining and rinsing.
Wether I store my strawberries in an air-tight container or one with openings, condensation still builds up and mold develops faster. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
It won’t change the taste of the fruits as long as you don’t add too much! It is safe to consume and they will also be rinsed with water after this! (:
Place the berries in the container, lay a paper towel on top, add the lid and store in the fridge upside down. Makes changing the towel so much easier
Thanks!!! Great idea!
Do u still have to do a vinegar bath with that method?
That's what I've always done!
That’s how I do my different greens, lettuces
I want to do this, but I really don’t like using one use items. Hopefully a regular towel works.

Try putting berries in a mason jar in your fridge...works great. I had blackberries n rasp last for 2-3 weeks
Our berries kept going bad. I wish I had seen this earlier too

How long do they last ?
@@sevenonsere6399 long enough to be consumed without wasting any.
🤷♂️
That's not specific

Great advice. I will do that right now to my blueberries. Thanks.
The greens are edible too 💚✨

Use non pasteurised cider vinegar for 2 minutes. And rinse well .

@@faithclyde9098 Do you find though that they still collect condensation and mold develops faster?.. That's what happens to mine.
@@Ana-bu3hh Not for me personally when I used Mason jars
@@faithclyde9098 is this after or before they're washed?
@@Ana-bu3hh you can dry them off wirh paper towel. My guess is they aren't dry enough. Also your fridge temp can cause condensation.

Strawberry tops and leaves are FULL of good stuff. I eat those bitter little salads :)
Great video, kind of late but still. Also that is a beautiful sink you have wow.
I do this but try spinning them dry first then put them on the dish rag
Has anyone tried those desiccant drying packets that come with electronics and other items to absorb moisture?
Thank you!! 💙💙
Anyone else think that looks like a lot more than 3 cups of water?
no
Great advice. Take a shot every time there is “berries” :-).

It's for convenience, I actually have spun my berries, I do not recommend it you end up with basically jam lol!

What about baking soda?
Should you combine baking soda and vinegar in the water?
Soaking time 15 minutes?
can you use red wine vinegar instead of white vinegar
Can't u salad spin the blueberries and strawberries for quicker drying?
Yes. I do for my Strawberries
It appears she used much more than 3 cups of water.
hi, thank you for sharing this tips. how long the berries will last in the fridge using this cleaning method?
Not much longer maybe 2 days, berries need to be earthen quickly 😅😅
Wether I store my strawberries in an air-tight container or one with openings, condensation still builds up and mold develops faster. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Dip in choclate n freeze
Go for a larger container
I use baking soda on some fruit n others in vinegar
You could have used the salad spinner to dry the berries as well
Beautiful idea thanks 🥰
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you!
Doing this while watching the video
What if mold gets on a few of them while in fridge?
Why wouldn’t you dry the berries with the salad dryer?
I'd say it's too rough for them, it would bruise them and potentially cause them to go bad faster
I brought shop brought frozen mixed berries that came in a zip lock bag but they look moldy??
Does the vinegar change the flavor of the fruits? Is it safe to consume ?
It won’t change the taste of the fruits as long as you don’t add too much! It is safe to consume and they will also be rinsed with water after this! (:
Tq for sharing
Can I use lime water instead?
How about vacuum packing with a food saver. A lot less work.
Okay, this did not work for me. My strawberries were sour after three days. Any other suggestions?
Freeze the ones you won't use in 2 days
@@youwhat. Oh! Great idea. Thanks
Make sure the white vinegar is not from petroleum

I pay a fortune for raspberries; eat at least a pound weekly.

Cutting the tops off may make them so bad faster 🤔

Your berried already have mould !
