So wait your base is built around the docks? And settlers who venture to other parts of the island end up dying? Your Spectacle Island sounds like Far Harbor on a budget.
Electrical Gaming Got 27 settlers with charisma 6. So charisma stat doesn't seem to affect. 6 of those settlers being companions and robots.

The uneven terrain really isn't a problem, like, at all. Just build on top of concrete foundations or raised shack foundations. It looks realistic, and it's pleasing to the eye.

It's funny - I've spent such a long time making Sanctuary my primary settlement...and now I'm thinking, hmmm, I might up and move everything to Spectacle Island. I like the idea that it's surrounded by water, making it (theoretically) easier to defend. If the workshop boundary at Sanctuary extended to the water (albeit a trickle in some places) all the way around, I'd stay there without a doubt. Oh, the agony of choice. And the thought of moving TONS of stuff...
I have 50 something industrial water purifiers at sanctuary..
I moved from Sanctuary to The Castle, now I'm also thinking about having my base on Spectacle Island instead... I really love the Castle though. It would be awesome if the Castle was actually ON the island, but I guess I'll have to build my own fortress there instead 🤔
They really need to give us an option to manually despawn bodies and ash/goo piles.
Just pick the bodies up.. And drag em to the water

Good video, pretty level analysis. I typically build on top of foundation blocks, so the terrain for at least an individual building isn't so bad. I have been spreading everything out though, so the problems associated with a condensed settlement haven't quite hit me yet (as I have only been building on it for a week). That house though, I'm going to have to get creative with it.

Hey I made my settlement around the whole island and not really having any supermuntant problems but ya I like living it has challenges
I have an idea when I build on this. I will divide the Island into 3 sections, similar to the whole 'District 1' thing in The Hunger Games. Now, there will be a fence with no gates to keep settlers who work for one of the 3 sections to their home. This means no wandering off and getting killed. They all have equal defences and food and water supplies, the basic. However, they are built up differently. The one that you called the docks would be Number 1. This will be higher then them all and stars in defence as it has a better overview of the Island. The 2nd one would star in electricity and will home many of the generators and other items with the job of supplying electric. The 3rd section will star in farming and water, however it will have a more advanced facililty compared to the other 2. By this I mean the farm will be larger, better crops and water purifiers will be better.
I haven't tried this out myself, but I think it is fairly decent in dividing and controlling this settlement :)

Spectacle Island is a very interesting location it's sheer size and plentiful resources/scrap means you can literary build cities. How ever I'm surprised this con was not mentioned and that is securing the island, yeah your going to have to fight for this one. After turning the two breakers on the island you have to deal with a Murlock Queen and possibly worse including legendary monsters. So either be packing a Fatboy and/or a Power Armor, it's also best to be a high level character, (I'm level 95 so it was actually pretty easy). I'm not worried about the spawning enemies(can't wait for the mods), with a little creativity and time you can build suffeciant defenses regardless of where they spawn. Rocket Turrets many many rocket turrets. Provided you got the DLC for it, start building a few Robots with enough firepower to ahniahlate an army of ledgandary Deathclaws in 15 seconds.
I did it not knowing that there was gonna be a fucking mirelurk queen so I wasn't prepared. This was a big deal since I was only level 24.

I kinda cheesed the Mirelurk Queen fight because I'd sided with the Minutemen and built tons of artillery at the nearby Castle, so I just threw a couple smoke grenades and they started bombing the shit out of the Queen and killed it in 10 seconds
I use the Castle as my base, and Spectacle Island as a jail. Haven't started doing much as I'm focusing on adding missiles to the castle before I fight the brotherhood, but I'm gonna begin soon.

for my settlement I built around the boat. I also put water purifiers everywhere so I get like 300 purified water to sell to my shops. caps fo days :D

my spectacle island settlement is a large building that completely encloses the shack with the workbench and the transmission tower. and a couple other large buildings all connected by walkways

There is a dead wastelander and dog, lying in front of the bridge to Sanctuary. I blew him up and sent him half way across the map; three days later, he is back.

Well that can be kind of disproved. He said that as he was attacked by a lvl 10 enemy. I'm pretty sure it's level based.
Yes, the further you travel south and east will increase the intensity.

I thought of one more pro. Since the island is so massive you can basically build a power plant on one side of the island without having to worry about the noise it creates.
Except the game sometimes considers the island as two locations. So electricity generated on one end, doesn't get to the other.
I ended up building two smaller settlements. One near the docks, and one near the anti mirelurk device.
Unfortunately this meant moving settlers there manually. Because the game counted them twice as they moved across the invisible border. It would show 30+, even though I only had 11-12.
You should make a light house there

All my settlers have combat armor at spectacle island and laser rifles.

For those on PC that want to get rid of corpses in your settlements, open the console (usually the tilde key), click on the corpse and type the command "disable".
Theres a mod called manufacturing extended that adds to the contraptions set an "Auto butcher" that you can feed corpses into for permanent disposal.
The first con of it is a good point but for me I use the vertibird signal grenades to be able to get to place to place, when it comes to a hardcore role playing

Spectacle island is always my final build. It is reserved for just me and the chosen slaves.. settlers I mean. I build some sort of over the top huge house on the hill and the slaves.. I mean settlers get boxes with beds somewhere over there .. As long as they garden and stay out of my house they live ..If not they become mirlurk food. The build Im doing now is probably my coolest one .. Not the biggest yet but the coolest so far.
foundations fix the hilly terrain. the way i built it, the center of my island is like a labyrinth of concrete trenches from foundation work and enemies get funneled in there and turrets get em. took a bit of tweaking but it works really well. i use automatron dlc robots a lot for settler replacements.
My Spectacle Island is kiunduv glitched. When ever I go there I get attacked by Mirelurks, like every single time. My guess is something happened when the game was exposed to get rid of them after completing the mission, so now every time it gets loaded up shit spawns everywhere destroyer everything etc. The only thing that keeps me alive is the 12 or so Death Claws I have running around the place. Oh and the fact that I got so tired of the constant fighting I decided to build a wall, (i call it trumps wall, it keeps out the sneaky illegal crabs from getting into my settlements) and spend several hundred thousand caps on equipping all my settlers with complete Marine Combat armor, and the best guns I you can make.
Typgamer Yes, the only way to get possession of the island is to activate the white noise generator to drive away the mirelurks. But even after that they still spawn in the same areas, even when I turn it off and on again it still happens. But Trumps wall is holding strong, WE WILL NEVER LET THE DIRTY ILLEGAL CRABS INTO OUR LAND! NEVER!
Why would you spend that many caps to get armor? Just go to Gunner's Plaza every few days, kill them and take their armor.

My 2 favorite places to build up are Spectacle Island and the Starlight Drive In. One of the cons I had with island is my provisioners would die. That got better after I was able to use robots to run supplies.
How you get robots to provision?
@@Tonykayemusic The same way I do settlers. On PC, I go into the build menu, point at the bot I want, hit Q, select where I want it to go then hit enter and off it goes. I like armor them up and give them good weapons but it's not really needed.

I used a scrapping mod that allows u to remove almost everything in each sttlement and transformed the cargo ship into a medum wood house neighbourhood
In my game the mirelurk repelling device is off and there are tons of gunner, super mutant and raider cages all over the island. I built interesting combat areas divided into faction-based districts that are close enough to each other to allow each group of enemies to engage, with mirelurks helping keep the heat on. It's not a settlement. It's my own personal battle island.
The slog
I've had a few deathclaws appear on the island. they took about twenty steps forward and were mowed down by my defenses. Over 800 defense!
All the spawn points for enemies are on or near the shorelines, where you built everything. Thats why mutants are magically appearing in the middle of your shit.
This one is perfect for me because I’m going to build up the whole place have a village/shop area, a fighting arena (death claw fights) and amd a base/iron man like power Armor storage. Also the high level enemies shouldn’t be a big problem since everyone will have mini guns and power Armor. There will also be tamed deathclaws roaming(I have all the dlc)
#1 Pro that makes it the best settlement in Fallout 4 hands-down: No lag
Spectacle Island is separated completely from the mainland, and so much of its natural resources can be scrapped that, by the time you've scrapped everything you can possibly get your hands on, not only will the Island be cleared up and clean, it'll also be lag free because it won't be so dense like those god-forsaken downtown Boston areas that set your computer on fire.
built my spectacle island fortress around the "anti mirelurk" tower can only go up 4 floors but have about 4 months in it, pumping out 750 purified water a day
If fixed the problem with the body near the destroyed house with the Spray n Pray weapon because it has explosive bullets you can shot the body and just pick it up
If you're on PC the Island is a dream.
In the mods section of Xbox one fallout 4 their is a mod called spectacle revamp and it gets rid of that house and body and adds a highway so you don't need to swim around.
did a really rough measurement of how big Spectacle Island is, and I came up with 23850 concrete foundations. this is measured from the highest point of the island to the build height limit.
I always take the high ground first because it is easier to defend. Find some concrete and build a foundation at the top of the hill.
What about the whole killing all the mirelurks to be able to build onto the settlement? Wouldn't that be a con?

Admittedly, I was using A MIRVed Big Boy w/ Heavy Gunner 4 and Demo Expert 4
all you have to do is power the signal thingy and the lurks run away, I might be 3 years late on that though ...
Mirelurks aren’t too hard if you have a fat man. If anyone wants and easy way to take out the Mirelurk queen at the castle just shoot it with the striker(a unique fat man that shoots bowling balls and has a 50% chance to cripple one of the target’s limbs(most important part) )and eventually you will cripple all its legs then just let Preston garvy and his posse gun it down while you bash attack the hatchlings.
Edit: make sure not to get close to the crippled Mirelurk queen or you will instantly die
Dont forget you can place a floor near a water purifier... And then drag it onto land ;) still works
I also noticed that the numbers from improvements by the generator ship did not show when by the cargo barge. It seems that about 1/4 of the island does not register from north to south under the build interface. So power from generator ship did not work if connected to a water purifier by the boathouse. I just build everything by the workstation to help get around that though. I cannot really tell if the overall numbers are right as the pipboy still does not show all the time correct numbers on the workshop menu screen.
Another thing is if doing the railroad quest to build defenses did not seem to work properly. I had well over the number of defenses already built before the quest, but had to build 1 more for the quest to recognize it.
I just finished my Spectacle Island settlement: "Fort Spectacle." (Name's a work in progress...) I used the unlimited building mod to make a large compound with everything needed inside a giant concrete building.
Did it hurt the framerate?
+ssddsquare Not. One. But. It's like a giant fortress made out of concrete. All the farming is managed by Mr. Handys. And I've got a marketplace, a little motel, and an artillery position: six cannons in total. And there's 125+ heavy machine gun turrets on the border of the roof.

Another Pro is that you get free power from the boat...
You can move the circuit breaker wich produces 20 power
The corpses in my game despawned once i moved them to the barge with all the cargo crates on it
A con for me is... The bane of my existence... MIRELURKS! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!

if you use shack foundations for the island terrain and house debris is not a problem
I walked across the ocean floor with only power armor and a hazmat suit (no Aquaboy or mirelurk cakes) from the Castle to discover the island. *sure* I almost suffocated, had to get out of my suit and swim to the surface, then swim back and re-enter my suit twice to survive and reach the surface but it was so sick
That's what I call commitment
All I really put in that island is a bunch of deathclaws (with the wasteland workshop dlc of course) and sentry bots (with the automatron dlc as well) and called it "Death Bot Island".
I had that stuck body glitch too. Lorenzo's Artifact gibbed the body after 4 or 5 shots, and then you can move it. I had no luck with other weapons.

Yea, I had a bunch of super mutant masters spawn in when I had only 20 people in my settlement (up to 60 now; over 130 plots). What a shitshow. The moment I spawned, it was explosions everywhere. And those guys were tough at the level I was at. Now, my defense rating is so high I doubt they will spawn again; and if they did, 60 settlers + turrets will make short work of them.
I did end up scrapping that house. I have several mods like Scrap Anything running.
For a non fast travel play through you can get a lift in a vertibird to spectacle island
I've never had super mutant attack my spectacle island settlement before, but I have had like 20 mirelurks attack at once. I guess that's another con of living on an island.
I have one: it is so hard to kill every single enemy/mirlurk just to get to build here! I have too kill a mirlurk queen just to build!

spectical island wasn't designed too be used its not optimized and if you go over the build limit you will be likely to crash this place is not designed to be filled to the brim with stuff so save allot

Isn’t this particular island supposedly in separate “zones”? I once built a huge settlement here but apparently parts of the island is not spawned in until you venture the whole location again if you fast travel away and back.

Just put a recruitment beacon or send settlers from other settlements. I have like 20 settlers there but I haven't started building anything yet
I manage to get rid of the settlers body. I used the lorenzo artifact and combine it with the two shot effect, thus create a powerful force, but you have to butcher the body first then shoot on the stuck corpse.
Wonder why we can't destroy houses.

u can use the place anywhere mod to build a bridge to the mainland and the unnofficial patch or maybe another mod might fix the super mutant spawns

you can download the unlimited building mod in the game. Just 2 clicks and very helpfull
If you drop alot of items, weapons armors etc, and go into the build mode. WHen you then pick up said items, your build space will expand, thus allowing you to build more.

If you read the little notes around the island all you have to do is turn on a few Breakers and the speakers will turn on and make the mirelurks all go away. That or don't try to go there at only level 10. Go back when you're level 30 through 60 where it will be super easy to do. Higher than 60 and I believe the mirelurk Queens become extremely strong.

Lee Sparrow I just did this at level 62, and the queen wasn't that bad at all. And if you are struggling there is literally a fat man sitting right there by the breaker you flip that triggers the queen.
Swim to the ship, turn on the generator swim off the ship around go into land whilst avoiding the queen and flip the switch boom
you can stop the settlers getting lost by fencing the important bits e.g fencing housing and farming together
For the man stuck in the wood , To make it bugger and bring it to the surface, lay a stone foundation where the body is , I hope this comment helps someone
Try filling this place with ONLY essential characters That way they can’t get killed.
I havent used this as a settlement yet. I used this a my purified water farm. Dozens of large purifiers cranking, Make made caps of selling them.

Dude, you need the Scrap Everything mod. And also try building at the other end of the island - the spawn points are at the other end.
There are scrap everything mods that let you scrap all the colored crates and the old torn down house and nearly everything in the game.
Hey i cheked the island, wanting to build like big arena, factory, vault powerhouse, big garden for plants, and a bunch of other stuff that i cant think of many ways to put them all in the castle, so i checked the island and its just too up and down, too many hills! For what i wanted the best terrain would be a big empty and flat area...i think what can be done here is to pick the most high place and start buinding ground from there and then fill the space underground by using those big blocks of cement around it! Although there would definetly be there some issues like that planted house but its workable lol
Idk why but I like to use the place anywhere Mod to build a bridge from Spectacle Island to the Castle and to Warwick Homestead. I also build a huge base that takes almost the entire island (and I can destroy the ruined house c: ). Sure, it takes weeks to build, but when you got god mode on and you’re on summer break, what can you do?
If you want the bodies to go away get the "tidy bot" mod.....its a mod that adds a bot that removes corpses

What about getting your settlers there with the highly radioactive bay all around? Or for that matter, your supply line person? Do they die off like crazy? Do you have to equip your supply line person with a hazmat suit?

I transferred settlers from a couple different settlements to Spectacle Island and they haven’t showed up yet. Does anyone know why?

right from the beginning of the video I noticed you tried to chop up the dead settler that is stuck in the floor boards just like I did and it doesn't work he stays right there
some times people like to build off the destroyed building
when i was building there they spawned right next to my settlers
Maybe you could try patching the destroyed house up? I do that kinda thing a lot like in Sanctuary where I patch up holes and windows with boards and stuff.
