Pit Vipers...I recently saw them as a Sponsor on a Gymkhana car , do you drive fast? faster than most? have you ever tried to make a car fly? Anyway, Im in my Peace of God garments , Jean/trousers by Jagar with a snow flake button and zip, the face of Barbie sewn on to th left thigh, Black socks with Red and white Candy Canes / Umbrellas patterns on , a green v-neck T-shirt covered with a black Ih Nom Uh Nit hoodie with the iconic image of a mans face in a Crown of thorns from the 19 Autumn Winter collection, on the right cuff is a gold token that reads "KISS ME I'M A PRINCE" on the hood are Red Ski Goggles that convert the Hoodie to a Hoodover, on the back is an iconic image of a cartoonish Cat in a Red Head band with a gun (desert Eagle ) riding a Unicorn in the clouds which is breathing Fire out of its' nose/ Nostrils.
Oh technically on the property ladder but it's more important how we live than where we live. All credit to God.

I had a massive burn out during 2021 when i went through a phase where I just couldn't afford to wear the pieces I wanted, it honestly changed my opinion on fashion. The social media fashion community is a massive circle jerk and completely misses the point imo. Ultimately what you wear is your choice and it's never been as deep as any influencers pressure you to believe.

I’m going through the same thing. Especially when you live in a big city like LA where tons of rich kids just get their parents to finance their wardrobe. I realized I couldn’t even compete with these trust fund kids who could spend $5000 of daddy’s money on a single outfit. Then I realized looking at fashion as a competition is really stupid in the grand scheme. But the culture is still super competitive. It’s just that designer fashion is a hobby too gatekept by money, and rich celebrities are getting young and impressionable fans to believe that they should spend half their bank on a jacket, when the celeb was probably gifted that piece in the first place

I kinda took the internet freak out over those two dudes personally since those are the exact brands that I like/wear. Fashion is an incredibly toxic place where people push for uniqueness yet clown on anyone actually doing things subversive. The only outfits that receive small amounts of hate r thrifted/inexpensive outfits that lean somewhat into trends. People like to consider themselves knowledgeable on fashion and so those who challenge their ideas piss them off a lot. The sad truth is that people rarely realize how much trends are affecting what they view as good style. Those two clearly care about fashion, as very little of that outfit is recognizable and so they are clearly doing it for their own image. I could rant about that video for hours that lmao I’m obsessed with it

8:54 the whole gatekeeping conversation is tricky. I’ve had 2 people in the last week ask me where different pieces were from. I was happy to tell them because both times it was pieces by small brands where the workers get paid appropriately, so why wouldn’t I want more people to support those brands? I think it comes down to the person asking lol, both of these people seemed genuinely enthusiastic and we actually had real conversations lol.
I think it sucks online because a lot of people asking don’t truly care about the brand, where they style comes from or anything , they just want to look cool right fucking now. I think we all cringe at someone who isn’t genuine participating in something, could be anything.
Laini ozark posted a video on why she likes gatekeeping , and her example of someone posting a video talking about their mom dying and someone’s up in the comments like , “drop the link for the top “ so at the other end you have that and it’s super annoying and they’re the same people shook when you tell them the piece is 5 or 6 years old ya sorry its sold out 😅

honestly great video that really captured how i've felt about the fashion internet spheres for a bit now; it's hard finding fashion content/communities that are critical, but also do genuinely focus on the enjoyment of fashion most of the time. there's plenty of people on youtube and tiktok whose styles i like and could probably make great content, but instead every video they make is is "microtrend bad/big red boot bad/your fashion sense is bad/cdg play shirt funny because it's bad", and not that you can't criticize those things or that i even disagree at all, but when all someone does is criticize, i don't even know what they do actually like. that's why i like your channel because you have a very critical eye, but you'll also make videos breaking down the basics of a bunch of brands for newcomers, something that you clearly have passion for. loved all your suggestions at the end and found a couple new pages to follow, can't wait to see whatever u put out next

Seeing as you also have some experience with /fa/ I feel like one thing they did that I agree with is to not call gatekeeping for 'gatekeeping' but rather an act of not wanting to 'spoonfeeding'. It used to be that people would only guard information when the questions being asked were so surface-level or easily answered that to give away that information would ruin the act of digging and learning, as opposed to just being spoonfed information. I always feel like when people constantly ask for id? or where to purchase entire fits its because they arent willing to put in the minimum amount of effort required to actually engage in the hobby of fashion.

I’m late to this. But my reasoning is exactly what you’re talking about. I was very into fashion and progressing my personal style in 2018 through 2020. Things were getting to be a bit overwhelming with all the gatekeeping and circlejerking. Aaaaand then I started working boring jobs and wearing the same kinds of outfits almost every day. I was neglecting so much of my closet, so many pieces I had accumulated over the years. Pieces that I loved but just didn’t have the spark or opportunity to wear anymore. Even when I did get the opportunity, I just couldn’t bring myself to put in the effort. What if this piece I bought in 2019 is super common and “uncool” now? What if I’m out of touch or tacky? I distanced myself in so many ways from the fashion world. … A little over a month ago, I finally left my boring job. I’ve been unemployed, which sucks, but it’s given me time to take care of myself (I’ve been having lots of health issues and never had the time to see any professionals) and dive back into my hobbies. Part of that was rediscovering my personal style. I dug out some old pieces from my wardrobe and felt excited again. There were definitely some things I didn’t vibe with anymore, so I’m trying to resell those and replace them with pieces I do enjoy. I don’t care if my style is viewed as tacky or off-trend or normie. I wear what I like, what I find comfortable, and what makes me feel like myself. My old coworkers dubbed my style as “grandpa chic.” I think that describes it pretty well. … Now time to binge watch all the FHTV videos I missed out on!

Not only can you replicate how someone carries themselves as many do especially in the world of fashion where your apparence can just be an apparence but the exact problem I personally take is with people copying individuality. I style myself the way I like and at the same time that is my expression to the world. I am me, and I do me. If someone copies me, than the world doesn't know who is who. Did I copy or wad I copied and because I authentically picked what I liked opposed to cloned someone else I'm stuck with what I have. Arguably, there is a the insecurity of wanting to be seen, and recognized by others as an individual. But I think that is a much riskier form of expression than copying someone. Copying someone's style which is absolutely possible from garment to the way one carries themselves, is taking only what works without having to face the ridicule, and rejection that comes from being yourself when the world doesn't approve. It's like being a trader only when the market is booming, or part of a culture only for the good parts. Like a bank getting bailed out of bankruptcy by the government with tax payer money. It's also that people who copy others don't do it with the intention to acknowledge that they copied someone. They make it seem like this is them. They have this uniqueness, that sprung out of your life. It's like wearing your life experiences as a garment for as long as the world approves.
I'm recognize that it sounds more healthy to say, we shouldn't be bothered by people who copy us or that it even is flattery. But it feels more like theft. Like an impersonation. Like someone is trying to gain social status with your likeness. When you come around those same parts, and meet those same people they may even think you copied someone else. Which in my view diminishes your reputation. It makes you appear inauthentic when in reality you are the authentic one.

This was probably a throw away comment you made, but I want to focus in on what you said about Patreon. To me, fashion education is already extremely inaccessible, its expensive, hard to find and generally not available across the world. So, I really dislike to see when creators make informative videos behind a paywall. Im including the new Vogue paywall and all the other mainstream media too. This kind of information shouldn't be exclusively for those that can afford it. It bugs me to know end that to find out everything about, say, Rick or Margiela, I have to not only buy books, but now I have to pay each individual company and creators patreons and subscription services in order to get all the information. I hate this so much and will absolutely never do it myself. Having early access I think is fine, even more entertaining content behind a paywall is fine, but if it comes with information thats genuinely helpful to a student or a child trying to get into fashion, then it either shouldn't be behind a paywall, or have an optional paywall only. (apparently I had stronger feelings on this than I thought I did, maybe Ive just been burnt one too many times 😂)

    • @fhtv
      @fhtv  Рік тому +2

i fully agree, at least with articles there are work arounds to pop-ups / paywalls, and i get why some independent creators go the patreon route.. but it does really bother me as well, its literally just exclusivity for the sake of exclusivity. very frustrating not only for people like you or I, who strive to relay the info to our audiences, but i can see this being really defeating to those who are new & want to learn more, but cant as a result of not having access to the resources they need

Im still glad that people bring it up, cause I think it can act as a good example of everchanging trends and shifting fashion landscape, in which nothing is permanent. There are some brands which are more niche than others, but at the same time, even they can become the center of attention as time goes on.
I also understand that the idea of an iceberg format is overused and oversimplified, so I personally dont see it as nothing more as a fun way to throw a bunch of brands on an image and show an average person what is surface level and what is "wEiRd AnD oBsCuRe!"

Comment 196 from your heavenly brother Charlie A38man of God with a thumbs up to say good job, sure we can follow trends or have a fashion even DJ as we see fit with the grace and for the glory of God Amen. I hope yall had a good Easter remembering that Christ in the flesh Lord Jesus died on the Cross crucified and was resurrected 3 days later all credit to God. Cheers on the 14th of April Holy Apocalypse day 1222 in the Revelation of God.
    Peace
