My opinion: Original is about a solid 7-8 (IMDB scale) and ignoring the "only one" premise, H3 can clearly scratch at that 7 barrier. Very much enjoyable if you allow it.
The love scene with Deborah Kara Unger in Highlander 3 is pretty damn amazing. She was so hot. I give H3 credit for that scene alone. It was really well done.
I never like 3...or 4. I actually liked what 2 was trying to do. And the 5th Highlander is a decent watch. But nothing beats the original, or captures its mystique in the same cool way. Plus, that Queen soundtrack is as much part of the movie's success as Queen's music defines Flash Gordon.
Highlander 3 is a pretty decent movie, it has a fun style and is one of the better Highlander movie… which given the Highlander movie series record, that’s saying something lol
I've seen interviews with both Lambert and Van Peebles about the shoot. In spite of the issues mentioned, they both said they had a really good time making this movie with each other. The fight choreography, in particular, they both said they had a ton of fun rehearsing and shooting those fight sequences.
I think it was a good film. Definitely better than Highlander 2. My only issue is that it felt a little like a rehash of the first movie. But I still enjoyed it.
Mario Van Peebles is AWESOME in this movie, he know full well he's in a POS film, and he's making the best of it by overacting AF and munching the entire screen in every scenes. it's absofuckin'lutly glorious to behold.
I was pretty surprised when I saw it. The original really wasn't set up for a sequel (Highlander 2 proved that), but #3 made sense and was pretty good.
I can’t wait to hear the behind the scenes on Highlander: Endgame because I’ll never forget the bait and switch from the trailer to opening night. Entire scenes filmed and special effects done but only for the trailer. They were never intended to be used in any version of the film. Just to get asses in seats.
Couldn’t have been a better villain than the gurgin from the first highlander surely?(it is gurgin right?🤔)i remember being terrified by him whe I was young
I saw this in the theater. It’s ok for what it is. Kane is kind of a Kurgan ripoff. Deborah Unger is 🔥 though. There is one standout scene that hasn’t been mentioned and that’s when he’s reforging his sword in Scotland. THAT montage is awesome.
I saw Highlander in a cinema, and loved it. They should never have tried to milk the original, the story had been told, and the magic could not be recreated.
It also didn't help that Mario Van Peebles played Kane as a pissweak version of Clancy Brown's Kurgan from the first film. Also, in this type of story you only get an initial suspension of disbelief in order to set the premise of the film's reality. In this case, there are Immortals skulking around beheading each other. I say this because the whole Ramirez sword shattering so Macleod pulls a block of steel out of his pocket to hammer into a new katana was ludicrous.
What doomed the Highlander franchise was its starting point. If the property was to be an epic saga, they started with the final chapter. For the franchise to continue on, they had to renege on the whole “there can be only one” thing. The movies kept coming up with new reasons for there to be more immortals. The series had a new immortal nearly every episode. Highlander had to break/forget its own rules in order to survive. For the upcoming reboot, my advice would be to move away from the classic rules. “The Gathering” and “there can be only one” are cool concepts that get in the way. Without them, you can keep telling stories for as long as you have good stories worth telling.
Here's the thing, I don't think they were planning on making sequels. The first movie really feels like a stand alone movie to me. But, since the first movie did well enough, and people wanted more, they made more movies. They tried to make it work, but things just really didn't work out too well.

Unfortunately, "There can be only one" is the entire crux of the "Highlander" concept. I was surprised by this video, that H3 was originally going to be a prequel. THAT would've been a much better solution, and that's what they should do with the reboot: play everything as prequels, after the initial story about gaining the prize. ... However, PLAN all the prequels out ahead of time, so that shocking new things are revealed with each sequel. It could even be done in such a way that maybe Connor isn't really "the good guy". And THEN do a sequel to winning the prize, perhaps bringing back the Zeist origin (but do it properly). Maybe Connor is using earth as a training field to conquer Zeist, and then use the Zeist army to enslave earth.

Yes I remember! 700 years ago, on the planet Zeist!_ " To me, Highlander 1 and Endgame are the best movies. The TV show is phenomenal. I love it so much.
As a Highlander fan this has been second only to the original of course. It was a great sequel harkening back to the source material yet adding a good sense of danger for the main character though we have seen him with “the prize” already.
When it comes to Highlander there really can only be one. The original is the only decent film Part 3 is the best of a bad lot but still not very good. The series was good in its time but I personally dont think it holds up to well.
It was a fun movie and not as bizarre as Highlander 2. Christopher Lambert movies always made it to the theatres here in Australia back in the 90's. Fortress, Knight Moves, etc!!! Lot's of good action movies!
I wonder if Kane's illusion ability was meant to give him an advantage over Connor, as without it, it seems like Kane wouldn't be a match for Connor. Connor had the quickening of every immortal except those that Kane and his henchmen had and they had been out of the game for hundreds of years. It would be something like thousands of quickenings vs hundreds. In other words, Connor was FAR more powerful than them.
Go and watch Highlander The Search For Vengeance as it’s the second best movie after the first one. it’s a great anime movie set across multiple time periods
Highlander 3 is not the greatest movie and it has its problems. With that being said... It does have one of the BEST LOVE SCENES ever made for an R-rated action movie. Deborah Kara Unger was the hottest thing ever in this film and she really steals the show. The sex scene is off the charts and is so well shot. The music and the build up is pretty amazing. For this reason alone I will always remember this film with some high regard.
Highlander 3 is a great movie and it's my 2nd favourite Highlander movie. Highlander 3 is better than Highlander 2 and is true to the original movie and is the Terminator: Dark Fate and the Ghostbusters: Afterlife of the Highlander franchise. Christopher Lambert is great again as Connor McLeod and he had good chemistry with Deborah Kara Unger. Mario Van Peebles is no Clancy Brown, and he did what he could with the main antagonist Kane. The love scene between Christopher Lambert and Deborah Kara Unger is one of the sexiest scenes ever in cinematic history. The movie had some good visual effects. The climatic swordfight between McLeod and Kane was the best part of the movie and the music track used for the sequence "He's Dr. Feelgood!" made it awesome, epic and badass. A shame Russell Mulchay didn't return to direct due to Highlander 2's disastrous box office failure, but new director Andrew Morahan did a good job. Highlander 3 is a great movie and a worthy follow-up to the classic 1986 movie. A sequel done right. Instead of sequels, it would have been good if there were prequels to the 1986 film depicting Connor McLeod through the centuries as he encountered and fought other immortals and developed the character more and we see his transformation from a medieval Scottish warrior to the cynical, isolated and reluctant warrior and antiques dealer who is deeply haunted by his past. Highlander 1 had the perfect ending, and the sequels were unnecessary. But Highlander 3 is a great movie and if Highlander: Endgame. Highlander: The Source. Highlander the Series and the upcoming reboot hadn't happened, Highlander 3 could have concluded the Highlander Saga for good. There can be only one!
I seem to remember reading at the time, that the original lead had walked out during filming and to save to the film, Lambert phoned his old pal, Mario Van Peebles who agreed to step in! (didn't his sister Nia, later fight Ducan MacLeod?) 🤔
Highlander 3 was NOT a hit. It made less money that the previous film (Highlander 2: The Quickening) did at the box office. Sure, it cost a bit less ($4 million less) but it was a big ole bomb at the box office but did well on VHS and Laserdisc. The film did open at number 2 at the box office, which is the highest the series ever got, but it fell off after that. It made $12 million but cost $26 million to make. That is a huge bomb.
I watched Highlander:Endgame in the theater. And the liberties of bending the "rules" they took were insane(killing immortals on holy ground), not to mention the special effects at the end of the theatrical release was poor. They eventually fixed most of the issues in the DVD release, by giving it a new ending and reestablishing that holy ground was sacred again. Not to mention they blurred out that god awful JVC sign that was ever so present in the final Connor and Duncan fight scene in the theatrical release.
@@DeedleTech The thing is, the movie was meant to be more of a sequel to the series than to 3. The Dark Magic sword Mario has is also one of my favorites from all the highlander franchise! It had some similar looking clone replicas sold back in the day & I think an official version also but it is one I wish someone would do a good modern version of.
The Highlander movies suffer from the same problem that the terminator movies do... why bother having a sequel at all? Obviously, the terminator series overcame that hurdle with the second installment, but after that, the series went downhill, in a big way.
Out of the 3 sequels I've seen, this is the better so far only one that makes sense continuity wise! The 2nd one was a mess and the 4th connects with the tv-show that I hadn't seen, so much just flew over my head. It had fantastic villains though. This is the tv-movie sequel that is kinda honest with where it came from!
Maybe I Mandellaed, but I recall the Highlander series pilot being released as a movie, Highlander III, The Gathering, and this one was Highlander IV. Can anyone back me up on that?
3 is an ok film. It’s not great but it’s also not the trash heap that 2, 4, and 5 were. Especially 5. Part 3 is a strange beast. Part 3 is kinda liked by fans mostly because the other sequels were such hot garbage that by comparison 3 seems like a masterpiece. If it went from just Highlander 1 to The Final Dimension, we’d probably say it’s a bad sequel but it wouldn’t be a legendary bad sequel.
To be honest, i did not like 3rd one, except couple of scenes in Scotland. Now, although 4th one is objectively a bad movie, i loved it. Death od Connor hit the right buttons for me. 5th one is just thrash. Hopefully Chad Stahelsky will do something glorious 😊😊
Decent attempt. And I love Mario, but they tried to make him another Kurgan. And that didn't work. I mean there was even another car scene? Really? And it really did like Deborah unger's character and the fact that she's very attractive didn't hurt. Getting Mako in it as well was also clever to have him be his new mentor. However I did like the fact that they included Loreena McKennitt's song in the movie. That was a nice touch. But in all fairness, the final climactic battle was really terrible. And apparently Christopher forgot how to hold a katana and whoever was choreographing didn't know how to use one either. Ugh
the movie may have made a tiny bit more than its budgt but promo cost even back then it basically made the same BUT once you remove the percentage for cinema chains etc it lost money for the studio i never understood why they kept making these as the first was not that good anyway
I was disappointed with highlander 3, as well as the tv series, I did like the second film, including the resurrection of rameriz... The final dimension was just awful.
Was called 3 the sorcerer U cant be serious its f ing awesome made up for 2 the song while hes making this sword i will crank up once in a blue moon when im drunk
What in the hell is with this generation always saying things "would happen" when talking about things that DID happen?? Get your tenses straight, or at least keep it consistent.
i only like the first film... the second one, the director's cut(!), would have been a cool sci-fi film; had it been called something else, i would have enjoyed it better... the third movie was shit... can't say much about the TV show either...

The Highlander movies suffer from the same problem that the terminator movies do... why bother having a sequel at all? Obviously, the terminator series overcame that hurdle with the second installment, but after that, the series went downhill, in a big way.
Working title was Highlander 3: The Apology.
The villain doesn't know what to do with the rubber, so he tries chewing on it. 🤣
Maybe I Mandellaed, but I recall the Highlander series pilot being released as a movie, Highlander III, The Gathering, and this one was Highlander IV. Can anyone back me up on that?
The pilot of the series was released as a movie. The producers combined two episodes
The gathering and revenge so sweet with guest star vanity.
is the villain father to Peter Dinklage?
If you watch this movie, you already lost...
I remember enjoying Gunmen. But it was forever ago.
It’s a decent follow up to the original, but not much. Although Kara Unger is dang HOT in it
3 is an ok film.
As much as I love the Highlander franchise, the fact that none of the films are connected and just did their own thing was really annoying
Listen to the song One in a Million and it'll answer your Axle Rose question.
The Jack the ripper plot was used in the series.
I guess now we know why Mario Van Peebles career kind of died out.
Disliked by Axl Rose....kiss of death 😆
@@mattsweeney3790 Yeah you don't mess with Axl🙂I was more thinking his behavior on set is not really something any filmmaker wants to deal with.
Ugh
They should have put Duncan MacLeod in the third Highlander
Highlander three is way better than Highlander two and you can’t deny that
the movie may have made a tiny bit more than its budgt but promo cost even back then it basically made the same BUT once you remove the percentage for cinema chains etc it lost money for the studio
i never understood why they kept making these as the first was not that good anyway
Hate my all you want, but I think H2 is actually a very interesting and curious take on the Highlander mythology and a good escapist cyberpunk fun.
Yeah, a lot of Highlander 2 didn't make sense. and it has always bothered me.
I am immortal, and I cannot die.
Kind of a redundant statement,man.
I agree. Good thing this line is never said in the movie. It would have been silly.
I was disappointed with highlander 3, as well as the tv series,
I did like the second film, including the resurrection of rameriz... The final dimension was just awful.
Highlander 3 was welcomed after 2.
Zeist forever!
I love the movie Men in Black did you just flashy thing me
Love the movies , but after the 1st one the last ones were really shit …. Fun to watch but still 💩
This movie had more sex scenes than action scenes.
Switch OLED I have that
Was called 3 the sorcerer U cant be serious its f ing awesome made up for 2 the song while hes making this sword i will crank up once in a blue moon when im drunk
0:18 *Jerry Seinfeld has entered the chat*
They disobeyed the HOLY GROUND rule. There should have been only one. I can totally see why Axl hated Peebles.
Someone watched some dbz and wrote endgame . But just the “power levels “
As far as I’m concerned that movie never happened
Highlander 3 aka the best but still bad highlander sequel
What in the hell is with this generation always saying things "would happen" when talking about things that DID happen?? Get your tenses straight, or at least keep it consistent.
highlander 3 the sorcerer
Ok.
Highlander 1 was good
The rest 😆😳🤦♂️
Francis Ngannou
Oh dear god no 🎥
i only like the first film...
the second one, the director's cut(!), would have been a cool sci-fi film; had it been called something else, i would have enjoyed it better...
the third movie was shit...
can't say much about the TV show either...
Highlander 4 and 5 are atrocious really bad films
I thought 3 was bad when I saw it but had NO IDEA what was coming that’s for sure.
I had so much hope for Highlander IV. I still watch it every now and then
@@JoBloOriginalsIt’s funny that most people don’t even know Highlander 5 exists. You can tell cause they’re usually the ones who still insist that part 2 was the worst. After part 5: The Source, you will be begging for the Planet Zeist to return. 😂
@@JoBloOriginals 3 is far more watchable than 4 and 5 especially how they explain why there only can be one , I was right I'm outta here
