The whole "I get stuck not knowing where to go" may be a misconception, if you went into the map treating it like an exploration map, it may have been much better. Because you're used to horror maps guiding you through what to do in some moderately obvious way. But if you treat it like you're an average explorer, things get scarier.
Getting stuck is bound to happen if the map's puzzles aren't made well. The electric box puzzle confused me because it wasn't made clear I needed to find a key nor was there any real hint about where the key might be. Shoving a grey key on a grey floor behind some chairs in a dark room is kind of lame. The sparking wire was good because it tells you the water is dangerous, but shutting off the power by seemingly turning "on" the one power box that was off? That doesn't make sense. And who accesses power boxes with a key? Why would I look for the key in a nearby classroom? It's just kind of not logical. And that's often the problem with Gmod horror maps: the map makers make a puzzle that isn't intuitive or, just as often, is broken.
The map creator said they just phoned the ending in and added that hell portal so he could just call the map done. That set my expectations kind of low, but once I ran into the grey box that makes the door opening sound, I gave up. Couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do.
I gave up pretty early on this map tbh, the electric water puzzle. I was wandering around for like half an hour or somewhere around there not knowing what to do before I just completely gave up
@@TheLibrarianYT There's actually a lot of handholding in this game when you don't use VR. Like for example, by the flooded area, when you try to flip the switch, there's text that states "I need a key to flip the switch". In them next door puzzle, you try to open the door and it says "I am going to need a key". In the key locker in the opposite room, it says "I need to pry it open". on the tables opposite the wall, there's a spanner which you're going to need to carry to the locker, the door opens showing a key which you use to open the door.
I honestly really just want an Underhell House/Mansion level that has semi-scripted moments that can startle the player. Underhell's hub world is seriously unmatched in my eyes in terms of storytelling and atmosphere. You should DEFINENTLY check that one out. THAT'D be great to see you play!
That tears it. So many people have suggested it that I HAVE to do it. It's not a different mode, right? Like, I can just not leave the house in the beginning to experience it? I was going to play it over a year ago, but I scrapped it because it kept crashing in the campaign.
@@TheLibrarianYT its a russian-made campaign mod that got cancelled after the first mission. The game itself is a FEAR-inspired shooter. But the standout portion is the HUB world which takes place in the main characters house. I believe there's a map available on the Workshop. I just know for a fact that you'd love it.
@@TheLibrarianYT Also, yes. You play a short intro section then get sent to the house. Which then branched into the other portions of the game. You have a yard and a bunch of stuff to mess around with in relation to the house and progressing through the events. You don't have to do much to get the scares going. And you dont even have to play the main episodes/stories to experience, in my opinion, the best part of the mod.
I remember a few months ago I went to a Joanes and there were hardly any other people in the store. So I wondered off away from my brothers to the back of the store to look around and the shelves were empty the warm-white fluorescent lights above were burnt out and flickering. I didn't notice how creepy it was until I realized that I couldn't hear from my brothers or other customers.
Hey Librarian! I love your stuff and have binged so many of your vids, and I have a game suggestion: One of my favorite creepy/comfy horror games was actually made really recently. It's called Subway Midnight and it's on steam, and I love it. It's not a Source game, but it has really good "going home late at night" vibes, so I think you'd love it. The art style reminds me of old PBS kids cartoons. Thanks, and your vids are awesome!
I found your content not too long ago and have watched almost all of the videos like this one! You’re so close to 70,000 subs and you definitely deserve it. Keep up the good work and keep making the amazing videos pls!
God, exploring gorgeous-looking maps in GMOD with VR is so atmospheric (except some weird jumpscares) I guess it also would be pretty cool if you'll install immersive footsteps add-on And also generic prop/physics sounds so they'll be more realistic Once again, love your content 💓
You really have to Give him credit- I mean he does this in VR and doesn’t use stuff like no-clip or over powered weapons to make himself feel safe but instead limits himself for the full experience
I always have trouble finding good gmod horror maps with my friends, I cant believe you find so many of these! I enjoy your videos and I quite enjoy your commentary and seeing your perspective on everything.
It's really, really odd how you go from rp_generators - an old cut level from STALKER - and then, in this map, for some odd reason, there's a graffiti texture straight from the old STALKER builds as well. at 6:30 is a really obscure wall graffiti from an old STALKER build that calls that version's trader a greedy asshole. why it's in this map, I couldn't tell you
Hey bro you should really try out a horror game it’s called fears to fathom. It’s more of a psychological horror game that involves home intrusion. It’s very creepy I would love to see your reactions to it.
Hi, the Librarian! I'm a huge fan of your videos and your content! I love your playthroughs of horror Gmod maps and liminal space maps, you make them very neat and interesting without being over the top or downright chlidlish! I love your perspective compare to other horror gamers. Keep it up!!
I know this is completely out of the blue, but there is one Garry's Mod Horry Map that has always got my attention, it was 'The Wendigo', even though it does have some jumpscares, the atmosphere really did get me. Albeit it isn't one of those maps where it constantly throws jumpscares at you every minute. I know this probably won't be looked at much, but hey there is no harm in suggesting it.
It's a small detail but I think it would be cool if you changed your player model to be more fitting to the map, maybe a rebel model here for instance with their fingerless gloves.
Hello Lib, I think you should try some Flashlight addons in the workshop because sometimes the Flashlight you where using kinda buggy when i was using it back then, it will improve your Urbex on gaming if you wish changing. By the way i will buy the game if i had a time and also maybe i could request maps by testing it first
Have you tried the gm_ghosthunt map trilogy yet? If it’s the maps I think they are, they shouldn’t try to install a game mode like gm_paranormal did. And from what I remember, and keeping info to a minimum, the third map has a puzzle, and on every map there are reasons to stay in the camera room/“headquarters” building
During 8th grade summer school last year while everyone was in the library I was looking into the long 7th grade hall while the lights were all turned off, with some desks piled up around classroom doors and the only visible light was behind me from the library and a few windows on the doors to my right and at the very end. If I didn't know around 50 people were behind me and I couldn't hear them, and the library light was turned off. I think that setting would be in my nightmares forever. Disregarding the people, it felt like I wasn't even on earth, rather some CGI image made for the purpose of being creepy. It was like being in a liminal space. Not sure how to say this properly, but schools are way scarier than I thought they were without the people than I thought. TL;DR After hours school looks creepy, and school is just one big liminal space. School is hell not only in work, but also in look

It was a nice map until the cheap JPEG scares and the ‘the school was built on a satanic temple’ ending. Honestly putting in satanic elements never feels scary/creepy to me. It’s just cheesy and try-hard.
