Great video Allen. What a guitar. It has the power, the volume and that sort of 'chime' and bell-like ring right through from low bass to the upper frets on the high E string. Those old guitars have that sort of crystalline clarity that only comes with age. Pity that doesn't apply to us humans! 🙂

Priceless, every string is in it's own Universe. I thought this level of perfection could only happen in my head, but no, someone made my Ultimate Dream Sounding Guitar. Wonderful playing.

Excellent playing and tone! Primarily an electric player, I'm more of an OM style guy. However, I just bought my first dreadnought a month ago. It's a 2001 Martin DC/1E that I found in a pawn shop. I just walked in for fun and assumed all the guitars would be Chinese until I saw the Martin headstock. I played it and was immediately blown away, dead strings and all with the punch and volume. The action is possibly the easiest I've ever played on an acoustic...even easier than a Taylor. I wasn't in the market for a new guitar, but I just couldn't leave it there. Even a month later I'm still impressed with the cannon of sound that comes from it. Cheers!

Thank-you for sharing this lovely instrument And great playing also .You don't see too many Old martins on this side of the water sadly but it must be such a privilege to play such an old guitar. I just wish I had smell a vision as I'm sure it smells great 😊 Martin uk.

IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YEARS TO FIND A 1937 Video. Idk how i havent found yours! I got a d28 authentic 3 years ago and have been dying to hear the real one. Im not in person. But the difference i hear over the video is the brazilian as usual is a very solid tone. Optimistic and happy. Mid range. The madagascar is a warm. Very emotionally pulling tone. . Brazilian is brighter. The open notes are truer. And it like to chime in overtones. The overtones of these old martins dont rely solely on new strings... Especially with this guitar. It makes you smile. The madagascar is bluesy and sweet. Woody with my set up i gave it. I like to drop the saddle to let the body resonate more. Offers more woodiness. But im shocked at how similar they sound... just madagascar is warmer and deep. While brazilian is that punctual. Upright and sweet dance vibe. It just makes you smile... it just feels good. My d28 authentic can be so hard to play cause it tugs on me.

Allen--Wow, What a player, What a Martin...Great demo and discussion from a pro. What strings were used here and what Flat Pick and thickness? How much neck relief is present? Is saddle and nut Ivory or bone? It's unbelievable how many incredible bluegrass flat pickers from North Carolina..

You get a better sense of the guitar by listening to the guitar itself, not being hung up on the strings, unless someone were to use something really inferior. Not likely on this level of instrument.

Yep, and here’s how that works: once you develop your own style, using what strings YOU like, and the pick type that YOU like, everybody else’s preferences just aren’t THAT important. Not like hanging on every last little detail, anyways. Everybody’s physiology varies, how they hold their pick, Its better to get your OWN preferences ironed out. IF you want to make any progress, that is. You gotta go a little rogue!

Notice how he is holding this guitar. The classical people do this as well. The sound and projection is fuller or fatter. Try it and you will never go back to the conventional way.
