  • I customize my containers for each Star Wars costume I build, so that they look more like something from that universe. This tutorial teaches a lot of tips and tricks I have discovered over the years, as well as some pitfalls to avoid, and some simple fixes for when paint issues arise. People have asked for a tutorial on these, and I put this together over a few months. It was an hour and 45 minutes long, so I broke it up into four parts. This video is part 1.
    Part 1: Introduction, example cases, choosing your case. Video link: • Customizing Costume Co...
    Part 2: Paint preparation, laying out greeblies and decals, and how to more permanently mount them.
    Part 3: Priming, painting, troubleshooting, and weathering. Video link: • Customizing Costume Co...
    Part 4: Adding electronics, simple switch installed in a battery night light, basic circuits. Video link: • Customizing Costume Co...

    What I live the most is the reasoning behind why you add what you add, the choice in color, writing, etc. such a great explanation of why. Love it man!

    Harbor Freight sells knock-off Pelican cases. Ammo boxes, both plastic and metal. Rifle cases. Tactical style bags and backpacks. Hard side luggage. It's not the best fit for the Star Wars universe, but something to look at.
    For fasteners, there are also Torx head screws and Security Torx head screws. Both have a scifi look. Especially the Security Torx screw with the tiny pin in the middle.

    The flower pot container reminds me of the Tantive IV escape pod, further adding to the feel of STAR WARS.

    Absolutely love this. It’s these additions that can make or break a starwars ambiance. I’ve used adhesion promoter I believe rustoleum makes it. Really helped with the cases I’ve been doing.

    The red on that Stormtrooper case does seem to fit, if you think of it as a blood stain left after a battle

    What about just grabbing a bunch of a specific security screw? I've seen sets of security screw screwdrivers at Harbor Freight and some of those had a good sci-fi look

    Dis you disassemble the wheels on the husky rolling case. I have the smaller version but can't figure how to take apart to paint. Plus mine is extremely loose

    • @OddViking
      @OddViking  Рік тому +1

      No, I just taped them off with paper. Taped tightly so that some spray can get around them, and although they don't get fully colored, I do a lot of spatter weathering behind, so it looks good.

    Hi just stumbled upon your video as I’m starting my custom case for my lightsaber. Do you know what kind of box you used for the case at 3:43?

    • @OddViking
      @OddViking  7 місяців тому +1

      That one is a kind of index card box I found at a yard sale, but I haven't been able to find a similar one. It is clearly a discontinued box.

    At exactly the 12:00 mark, how did you light this? also, how did you print this? I am having a heck of a time figuring it out - prints are washed, or the various lights dont work, its frustrating. thanks for any insight!

      That is a black vinyl decal, on a rectangle of translucent white plastic, with some red gel behind one part, and a battery nightlight behind that. I go into the battery nightlight in part 4.

      @@OddViking thanks for the quick reply! I saw the nightlight option you presented - I am having trouble finding a dang night light (go figure). Love what youre doing here! Not sure if youre in LA area, but if so, you can get free gel samples from movie supply houses ( i can tell you which ones) if you want to try out different colors etc.

      Thanks! In this case, I used a 3M self-adhesive used for temp brake light repair. I have a selection of gels for other colors, but red works well for Imperial. Here is the style of night light I have used: “nextool 2-Pack Adjustable Battery Operated LED Night Lights a.co/d/hdblCZT “

    What is your best source for finding containers? I assume you are going to say "everywhere", but thought I would ask.

    • @OddViking
      @OddViking  2 роки тому +1

      I use a lot of "Husky" and "Plano" brand containers, because they have a great look already with the shapes of their panels and reenforcement. Those I get at Home Depot. A lot of high-end equipment cases (like Pelican brand, or similar) are what you see a bit in the movies and Galaxy's Edge, but those can be expensive new. Used ones turn up a lot though, from photographers, musicians, labs, and all kinds of places. There are also knock-off ones in the same style from places like Amazon and Harbor Freight.

      I found someone on maybe Reddit of all places, and they sent me a few dozen in different sizes. This was before I had my own resin printer, and that model is fairly easy to find on places like Thingiverse.

    Where do you source fullers earth for weathering? I've been looking for black or dark brown fullers earth but its hard to find any color specific powders.

    • @OddViking
      @OddViking  2 роки тому +2

      I found some tiny bags of black and brown and grey in a pack from Amazon that was for tinting epoxy or stone repairs. It was called "EZ-Tint 4 Pack. Epoxy or Polyester Tint for Stone. 5 Grams Each of Highly Concentrated fine Powders of The 4 Primary Colors of Stone. Black Brown White Gray" and I used it mixed with other colors to get darker versions. Very tiny bags, but it went a long way.

      The ones used in this video are from Trooper Bay, which has a darker rust brown, but it is very staining like rust. I mix it with the grey and that gives me a good dirt brown.

    • @carterc174
      @carterc174 2 роки тому +1

      @@OddViking Thank you thank you! Anytime I searched for fuller's earth on amazon the green beauty powders came up. I have used the trooper bay kit a little bit but I wanted the brown color to be less rust and more dirt so this will be very helpful thank you so much! :)
