I have so much to tell about Hammer and Sickle... First, legend says that initially the centerpiece of Soviet coat of arms included a sword too. When Lenin was presented with it, he said something like "overall idea is nice, but sword is a symbol of conquest, we don't need it". The symbol was reworked into what we know. North Korea's ruling Worker Party has its own variation of Hammer and Sickle. First, the sickle looks different, like a small scythe - it's how agricultural sickles look in East Asia. Second, it has third element: an ink pen, so that it represents unity of workers, peasants and intelligentsia. Hammer and Sickle found their way into modern folklore. One saying deciphers Soviet symbol's meaning like this: "Hammer to the head, sickle to the balls". It should be noted that first recorded person to use sickle against someone's genitals was Greek deity (titan) Kronos, who castrated his father Uranus. Which, in turn, may have inspired someone in Soviet high command to title a certain military operation during WWII "Uranus". Or maybe it's just a coincidence. TL;DR: Communism works on paper, but the thing is, it only works *on paper.* I love history. But communism just doesn’t work in practice. I do agree with Marx’s talking point of “Just stop abusing workers in all sectors,” but communism itself is an inherently flawed ideology. Marx imagined a utopian world where everything is the property of everyone, and when someone needs something, it’ll be provided to them. He imagined a world with no need for the “state” (a.k.a. nations) as everyone would be under the same umbrella. That all sounds fine and dandy, but there’s a big problem with it: it’s utopian. Utopia is a fictional place that could never happen (KnowledgeHub has a great video dissecting Utopia and how it’s actually a dystopia). Humans don’t function how Marx envisioned them. There’s always going to be someone corrupt who’ll take control of the system and mold it to benefit their needs (i.e. Joseph Stalin). Notice how the Communist Manifesto (probably) never mentioned anything about starving populations to death, forming a one-party dictatorship, etc. Yet corrupt people did it anyway. The idea of Utopia is just that: an idea. As is a communist society (even China, the longest-lasting communist state, has turned (mostly) to capitalism. It’s still a totalitarian dictatorship, but it rethought its economic model once Mao died). Corporations and the like should be held accountable and punished accordingly for abusing/underpaying their workers, but communism as an ideology is not grounded in reality. And nearly every single time in such a nation, an authoritarian state (which lacks the freedoms of speech or press) pops up in an ironically-named “People’s” Republic. Communism in general does not work, at all.
As someone who's living in a hypercapitalist country. The inequality and injustice that is happening in my country makes me understand why a lot of country adobted the principle and concept of Communism or at least Socialism.
I love all the variations of the symbol as well. The German Democratic Republic had the hammer and compass and People's Korea has the hammer, sickle, and paintbrush for the artists as the symbol of the Worker's Party Of Korea.
Bc they stand for something very different. Swastika stands for hate and we are better then some other people just bc we are german. And the hammer and sichel stands for what is explained in this video workers unity. Also the udssr wasnt communist
Between 1880 and 1920, the british killed that many people ON THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT ALONE. This was after the industrial revolution, so yes, this was capitalism.

Stalin really gave communism a bad name. TL;DR: Communism works on paper, but the thing is, it only works *on paper.*
I love history.
Lenin actually addressed this. He argued that all "communist" regimes were just practising state capitalism. He would be turning in his grave rn
As someone who's living in a hypercapitalist country. The inequality and injustice that is happening in my country makes me understand why a lot of country adobted the principle and concept of Communism or at least Socialism.
Just for note: till year of 1918 there was a plow instead of a sickle, but it was too bulky, so lately it was changed to sickle.
The Irish starry plough was pretty cool, though.
Thanks for using La internacional:)
This symbol represents what a pure world would look like with no corruption or capitalist pigs
I love all the variations of the symbol as well. The German Democratic Republic had the hammer and compass and People's Korea has the hammer, sickle, and paintbrush for the artists as the symbol of the Worker's Party Of Korea.
