this was very helpful for my understanding of a difficult understand philosopher. i would like to add that “being there” authentically and becoming “with” the world is worth the work but can be a quite lonely project.

Nicely done, compliments for the hard work! I enjoyed the watching, very professional and also very detailed. I just want to point out a small improvement: the background music throughout the video makes the voice over less clear, I find it annoying. The video should have music just in the beginning and in the end. No music during voice over. That would be better. Just a small thing. Overall the work is great! Thanks for sharing.

Heidegger's philosophy wasn't grounded on man or human subjectivity [ anthropocentric ] but Being. He clearly stated that he was not an existentialist "...we are in a situation where there is principally being" as opposed to existentialism "......we are in a situation where there are only human beings....". The simplest way I got my head around this is that Heidegger eliminates the objective-subjective dichotomy. It is a direct attack on logical positivism. I know it's mind-bending but I hope that helps!
yes, Heidegger avoided the term "existentialism" because during this time the term existentialism had been identified with Sartre. but thanks for your brilliant thoughts, Alon58.

Thank you for the origins of Heidegger's thought.
There are some similarities with India's Advaita Vedanta and the Vedas.
Vedas are believed to hv been mystic messages 'received' by the minds of the rishis/sages.
no worries, FREEDOM90. yes, i agree with you. in fact, i have a gut feeling that Heidegger was influenced by the ancient Indian and Chinese thinkers. he just didn't acknowledge it clearly. in my research, i learned that Heidegger had read ancient Indian and Chinese philosophers.

Great video - very comprehensive and accurate on the topic. My question is, why it is important for Dasein to understand the meaning of being? Wouldn't the scientific orientation towards the understanding of beings as good if not much more efficient for human being as a whole? Each Dasein's being is finite, and the human being as a whole could be infinite?

@@PHILOnotes I probably know the classroom answer that existence proceeds essence. But I am not happy with the claim because I don't feel that understanding being is the precondition for understanding beings. Nevertheless, thanks for the video.
@@ntang99 Ok, thanks Michael. Well, we know too well that at the core of Heidegger’s existential philosophy is the idea that Dasein (human person) needs to recover her/his lost self (which was lost in the “they”) if s/he wants to live a meaningful life. If Dasein is successful in doing so, then, for Heidegger, Dasein attains a meaningful existence. But of course, it must be noted that for Heidegger, Dasein’s act of heeding the call of conscience to regain her lost self (resoluteness) is already authenticity in itself. Now, for Heidegger, Dasein’s being (that is, “to be”, or the proper way of behaving as a person) cannot be fully understood if it’s not juxtaposed vis-à-vis “being” in general. One of the reasons for this is that Dasein is always defined by a context (World). Hence, to make the long story short, for Heidegger, we need to understand the “Being” of beings so we can fully make sense of the “Being” of Dasein (individual existence). I hope this helps.
@@PHILOnotes Thanks for your explanation. It helps. One thought is Dasein's being is finite. Actually, the whole human species's being might be finite as well. Human being could be just one stage or early stage of the evolution of some intelligence or consciousness. In that way, it does not matter Dasein is aware of its being or not. Coincidentally, Heidegger is very against technology. So when Heidegger says that philosophy needs a second start to fully grasp Dasein's own being. My reaction is, cool, but why😁? Knowing or not knowing, would that change the course of human being as a whole or Dasein as an individual?
@@ntang99 Of course, Dasein is finite. That's directly implied by what Heidegger calls "temporality" of being (Dasein). And it is Dasein's realization of her finiteness or temporality that allows her to realize that she is a being towards death. As you already know, this is the pivotal moment of Dasein's existence: the resolve to make her existence meaningful is urgent as she could die anytime. Hence, the idea of the "infinity" of Dasein's existence is not an issue in Heidegger. Also, and this is contrary to your point, Dasein must think! Dasein must be conscious (aware, to use your own word) of her existence because she cannot appropriate what Being reveals itself to her she does not think, if she is not conscious. Of course, Heidegger said "We do not come to thoughts; thoughts come to us". But this does not mean that Dasein should not think. Dasein must think, because this thinking is not "conceptualization", but a "listening" to what Being reveals itself to herself. This is exactly what Heidegger meant by "thinking of Being", that is, Dasein attunes itself to what Being reveals itself to her. Again, it need consciousness/awareness. Look, Being always reveals so many things to people every day, but people don't get them because they do not listen, they do not attune themselves to Being, that is, they do not think!

So he wants useful human beings, not defenerate ones that waste space, and other peoples time” he wants people to live out their existence. What if some people dont want to? What about language? The idea of throwness. We are thrown here with these ideas and thoughts as they “come to us” But what would he say about the limits of our language. Which we use to think ideas, all of the words we know will never be enough to describe being. He wants to know what is thinking, but our language is never complete. We create new words every day every year throughout the eons of time.
Isnt that why humans are now studying the “ logic of language” lmao were language beings as hieddeger states.

This is max weberian analysis entirely theocratic behind the facade of secular understanding . Parmenides the main philosopher starts with a monism that the Christians destroyed and Heidegger is a victim of this understanding yes he is correct in going back to presocratics but he is stuck with Aristotle who was an antithesis of Parmenides Heidegger never escapes Aristotle

I started with Heidegger in 1980 and he was the centerpiece of my dissertation “ the role of the critic and the logic of critics in Hegel Bruno Bauer and the Frankfurt School” he remains as the enigma and the deepest philosopher of the last century , he tries to break the barrier of theory and practice but his belief in their separation of consciousness as eternal .Marx was actually more successful in this venture but he too decided to stop at Aristotle and denigrate Parmenides thanks for putting this up. Heidegger is important very importanr
