I'd like to add that I just watched Grimcutty (2022), an amazing movie which stars the actress who played Anne Frank here, and she's much better there. Give it a watch if you like horror, it's sensational and insane.
the kid literally could just have been a non holocaust victim instead of Anne Frank and it wouldn't have changed anything about the plot. I'm so puzzled by this decision
Speaking as one Jewish person, WE DON'T LET GO! Our heartbreak is always carried around. Always acknowledged. We do have other things going on in life. We find, joy, celebration, humor, love. But the sadness is always there too. We use it to remind ourselves to be vigilant, to understand what injustice looks like, to remind the world. We go forward but we hold our heartbreak tight as we do. And to invoke Anne Frank of all people to push a message of "Don't take your meds. Let go of your sadness. Just focus on what's good." pisses me off SO much.
Yeah I much prefer this kind of integrated acknowledgement of how grief is going to stay with you. "Letting go" concepts might help some people, but I'm actually going to cling on lmao
Why are people so obssessed with turning Anne Frank into something inspirational? She was a child victim of the holocaust, just let the girl rest. Don't use her as a metaphor for your movie.
IKR? Anne was just one of the 1.5 MILLION children who were murdered during the Holocaust. And honestly, if I was in her place, it would be pretty tiring to watch people making my own personal story into some inspirational metaphor. I mean, we shouldn't pretend that she doesn't exist and not acknowledge the Holocaust, because that would be just as bad, but we honestly have to STOP romanticising her life.
This feels like a movie written by someone who had an argument with a loved one about moving on after loss and needed to write a whole ass movie saying "well you know who would tell you it could be worse? Anne Frank."
I feel like this story would've been fine if it was just about a woman dealing with her daughter's death. You could even keep the girl in the attic. She could be, like, not exactly her daughter but similarly aged and stuff. There's literally no reason for her to be Anne Frank lol
i feel like the insistence that it was inspired by a work that was inspired (in part) by Anne's diary is a giveaway that they did not, actually, read the diary itself. IDK I feel like the characterization of her in this movie is not only a bizarre, kind of evil interpretation of her life, but totally incompatible with the pretty normal teenage girl who wrote her day to day worries and hopes in a diary while hiding in the upper floors of a warehouse with 6 other people from a fate that she couldn't foresee with clarity.
im not one to judge someone filming in their own house considering every web series ive made ive had to do that but. at least i do not have an eiffel tower
This is a really minor crime compared to further desecrating the memory of a teenage girl murdered by the nazis into twee bullshit, but attempting to ruin Two Headed Boy pt 2, noted Song that Makes Me Cry Every Time, by using a lyric from it to title their desecration sure is something.
Does somebody knows if Anne Frank is supposed to be dressing in modern clothes or we are supposed to understand that the way she is dressing is how 40s fashion looked like?
I assumed that the first dress we see her in when she's introduced is an attempt at styling her as she would have been in her time. After that she wears Juliette's clothes.
I can’t imagine bragging abt the ITAOTS inspiration, it’s one of my favorite albums of all time and I’ve cried to it but like the way it engages with Anne Frank is gross and off putting and nothing that anyone should try to recreate
the neutral milk hotel reference in the title is really the cherry on top. i'm saying this as a neutral milk hotel lover and apologist. why would you do that
When you said Anne Frank Media I instantly thought: Neutral Milk Hotel. Which is apparently a sentence. Anyway they did an unconscionable job, especially since they had the guts to name-drop both so brazenly. I don't think they ever said "Anne Frank" once in the album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. They could've had an ounce of subtlety and not named the girl (ghost?) in the attic that. But they did. And they shouldn't've
Let Me Be Frank (2023) In this sequel to indie darling „Love All You Have Left“ director and screenwriter Matt Sivertson, also known under his alias „hbomberguy“ proves once and for all that UA-camrs shouldn’t be allowed to make movies. In a heavy-handed metaphor for a proposed victim culture several characters audition for the role of Anne Frank in his previous movie - and who ends up winning the role but the ghost of Anne Frank herself. While breaking the fourth wall in this manner might be seen as creative it is in service of a tasteless and obvious plot. Let me be frank: Do not watch this movie. 1/10 Terrible concept, stiff performances and a director whose prolonged contact to Tommy Tallarico seems to have impacted him more than we can ever know
I know acting and getting gigs is hard, but I'm not quite sure I can excuse the actor for agreeing to play this. Maybe she got tricked into it via contracts or something, but... Jesus christ
That this movie exists and is somehow supposed to be about Anne Frank in the modern day is so weird. I don't want to blow anyone's mind, but historical context is relevant to Anne Frank's story.
I keep trying to come up with funny metaphors for the message of this movie, but any comparison I find feels offensive and tasteless. What's more outlandish and offensive than reanimating a holocaust victim to tell you "even when times are hard, you should smile"? Playing Bobby McFerrin's "Dont Worry, Be Happy" over "Triumph of the Will"? Also, something tells me they meant to use "Dongo" in place of "Doggo" (because of the puppy in the logo) and, you know, maybe I'm alone here, but I just don't think it works.
Just got to the part about the husband trying to get the wife to stop taking medication because she's been on it for a year and she obviously should be better by now... and I'm already enraged for too many reasons to list. This is going to be a fun watch.
I've been saying this for years but it really well and truly feels like once the last survivors die, we've got like a decade before Disney tries to make an Anne Frank animated movie...
Dongo Productions, not much better than Dingo Pictures. Also, you gotta love how a Holocaust victim just magically appears to cheer people up like a Care Bear. :/

I can’t express enough how much I wish people would leave In the Aeroplane Over the Sea alone.
