I didn’t see a generational drive. I saw Max being Max. It’s become obvious to everyone that he has a combination of raw talent & proper teaching. I truly believe there are other drivers in lesser cars that can do “the normal stuff”. Unfortunately Lando doesn’t seem to have the innate killer instinct. I believe that Max understands his equipment better than all of the other drivers as well. I believe its a shame that Mercedes has given Lewis a car that isn’t near his ability. To me Max just knows what to look for, where to go etc etc etc. He’s as good as any driver that I have ever seen. This is despite his team doing their best to accidentally slowing him down. I really appreciate Martin for taking a calm, honest & respectful approach to his reviews. Max tries & excels at restarts. Sorry but if you are looking for something wrong with Max’s performance, you are not a fan which is fine but you should really give respect where it belongs. Time to go cast my vote. Add: Lando needs to WANT to get better to possibly BECOME better.
I honestly think Lando is doing everything to be better. It's like being Andy Murray or Tyson Gay or any top 10 chess player that isnt Magnus. You're good, very very good, but there are always these freaks of nature that are somehow at an even higher level.
I have been a Hamilton fan since he was at McLaren. But over this season, I have come to like Verstappen quite a bit. The difference between Verstappen and Norris was very clear at Brazil. It was almost poetic how on the same corner Verstappen overtook for the lead, Norris went off at the same corner. Norris has become unlikeable because his personality is on display now that he is at the front. Insinuating that luck was the main reason for Verstappen's win was his personality on display. Verstappen went P17 -> P1 on a wet track where the cars are mostly equalized. If the Alpines could go P2 and P3, it wasn't about the car - it was about who was driving them and on pit wall. As for Hamilton, his win at Silverstone was all I needed as a fan. Mercedes is not what it used to be, and it seems that Hamilton gets a different car setup than Russell. Almost as if they are using Hamilton to test setups. They also don't seem as eager to listen to him anymore. He will ask for something and gets overridden by the team. But either way, Ferrari is looking very competitive for 2025, and hopefully the car can do Hamilton justice.
Justice has been done already! The last 3 years showed that Lewis needs the best car at that moment to be able to win. Lewis is a 20% plus power winner no more no less!
All I want to know why the penalties for driving when the lights are not green are a joke. Why does a contender do not know the rules. And then merch changing Tyre pressures. WTF. These are DQ penalties.
Agreed, they should have been. But the FIA lately is obviously optimizing for viewer spectacle, not for fairness or consistency. Max profited from that in AD2021, but now they pull anything they can get on him in order to advance Norris. Beautiful respons from an agitated Verstappen this weekend, I can't wrap my head around the fact some people dare to call it 'lucky'.
Fia had the nerve to write down and publish that norris Assumed, that he has to go for another formation lap. Pole sitter in f1 assuming the rules, driving on a closed track? Like on my local karting track i would get slapped in the eye for that xd
Great stuff again. Subscribed!! Aside from practical racing there was one thing Jos hammered into Max. Preparation!! If you fail to prepare you prepare to fail. It showed in the first race Max won in Barcelona in the way the took back his place from Vettel right in lap1. He had studied that! Same goes for knowing where you can (must) drive in which circumstances to make the most of your race. Point proven again in last race.
@@lexip9225 I’m not sure Oscar can beat Lando, just look at last few races. For me there is not much of a difference between the two of them. Put Max in that McLaren and you get your self driver champion, that’s for sure!
How does Max do it? Finding the dry line? He is sniffing around like a hound haha. 🤣🤣 Lovely interview; I had lost hope for Max before.. but this has restored my interest in F1. Like the psychology of the F1 driver too. well done!
Straight line traction The key. He position his car out of the corner. Making the turn early, where he is slower. But exits the corner in a straight line…while the rest stil turning. Absolutely briljant
First safety car the track was too wet he decided to settle for 2nd and wait the track to dry a little bit. On the second safety car track was ok and he just went for it!
I would love to see Lewis in a good car but to say he deserves that isnt true. Lewis has driven a top 3 car his entire career bar this season and maybe 2009. And 9-10 seasons it was the best car. No other driver has ever had that. If anyone deserves a rocket ship it's Fernando.
He absolutely stays off the rubber, and he really avoided the painted lines exactly where he needed to. I was amazed at how many drivers were braking on that line, and insta-spinning. Max seems to be one of the few that knows that and puts it all together.
I'm a Max fan and Lando doesn't fascinate me with his personality, but I think we are a bit harsh about his statement after the race. He must have been very disappointed and then you can say stupid things out of emotion. We all do that sometimes, right? Thanks again for your content. I'm learning so much about F1!
It's unfair that even fans give Lando the benefit of the doubt when he says the wrong things again and again and means it. But when Max gets angry when he's driving and has so much adrenaline, people act as if he's the worst person to ever exist. This sport really is biased and have double standards. Even Max swearing, he gets community service, but when Charles did it after, he only got fined. And both drivers apologized, but people always treat Max so harshly and unfairly.
@lllouise9 I also think that Max has been treated far too harshly. It looked like a smear campaign. But he gave the best answer on the grid. For me, this is separate from Lando's comment, which in my view was particularly unfortunate. I sometimes say what I think afterwards: stupid! We are not perfect. If he continues to believe that it was mainly luck and not talent, then it will be a different story.
I mean landos words were for dodging responsibilty and a bitter child, whos fire truck was taken away…. Imo.. "We did nothing wrong" - after basically doing everything wrong, even things like i didnt even think u could fck up - 3 starts - driving off track multiple times - breaking a major safety rule and after saying “i assumed” TF??? - strategy And after all that saying what he said, avoiding responsibility, the circumstances hate me bla bla
You could see it when they showed his live on board v Piastri. The final left corner they were basically on the power at the same time, which is why Oscar didn’t accelerate away. It’s why he’s such a great overtaker
As a former international sporter, rowing, my believe is that there are 3 components deciding if you are a good sporter, or if you belong to the best. Those 3 are, talent, physics, and mental. First is a given, you pick as a youngster the wrong sport, bad luck. The physics is obvious, there are not many, if at all, basket ball players at the top who are smaller then 1,75 m. But it goes more subtle, like the good kind of muscle fibers. Mental, only a few can endure the pain, day after day, of training, or the going the next step to get the win. With rowing acid is your enemy, your muscles are going to hurt, to be able to endure the pain is a mental game. We used to say “pijn is fijn” (pain is lovely), just to be able to cope with it. Whatever sport you are doing, it isn’t a slam dunk, all on the top are the best, but for F1 I make one exception, Lance is an idiot and doesn’t belong there.
Jos taught Max how to drive in the rain. Back in his karting days, when it started raining, everyone was packing in and leaving the tracks. That was the moment that Jos sent Max out to do practice runs in the rain.

The thing that boils my brain concerning Mercedes and this era of "W" car is that they knew with the W13 that "downforce" wasn't really the issue with that car, rather, the issue was they didn't have the ability to control that downforce generation to be able to harness it into performance (hence the stalling and bouncing effect). Suspension (configuration/tension) and aero elastic bits (including floor edging and front/back wings) in combination with a optimally shaped diffuser which enables the floor to shed downforce at a controlled rate (that will keep the floor just short of full stall, but at max downforce through the widest drive regime) is the secret sauce to the ground effect era. McLaren (regardless of current missteps) and Ferrari realized that small changes outside of the floor (internal or external) offers the ability to experiment and sculpt that aero downforce (as a whole) into its most usable form. Merc has gone backwards (really back to 2022) at this point. However, my standard disclaimer, I'm not an engineer or an expert, nor do I walk in Merc engineer shoes. However, there does seem to be a bit of history repeating itself with Mercedes as of post-summer break.
Interesting view @18:15 about Mclaren being an engineering team and not a race team. Mclaren get a lot out of winning the constructors championship for the brand Mclaren. They sell hyper cars and being able to use F1 World Constructors championships for their brand is significant. We make cars that win championships. Red Bull on the other hand are not high tech hyper car brand. There focus is on the drivers championship and the sensationalization around it. We have fastest driver and his a Red Bull sponsored driver and he drinks our "suger" bomb unhealthy soda drinks. Both teams are hyper focused but one on the constructors and the other the drivers championship. I see Max win in a Red Bull but it still does not make me purchase a Red Bull fizzy drink. However, if I had the money to afford a hyper car, I would be swayed by the fact that Mclaren make championship winning cars. I agree, Mclaren is an engineering race team and RB are a drivers race team.
idk if you understood what he meant by that… he, pretty clearly, gave an example that McLaren is not quite easy-to-understand in its communication to its drivers, using engineering and scientific jargon instead of explaining the weather in simple terms like GP did for Max. I’m not sure where you went with what was explained in the video
Cam: “The goatiest f1 mind Mr Peter D Windsor, how are you doing sir?…It doesn’t matter how you are doing!” Peter: 😧 I wonder if one day Cameron will forget who he’s speaking with and will pull this on Peter
28:52 This is why I've said in your comments or in Quickstop's. This is why The Scuderia has hired Sir Lewis. I don't think they believe in Charles to be able to get it over the line.
Lando has wet race PTSD from Sochi, he doesn't believe in track position over everything in the wet anymore, I knew it was over when he pit behind george under safety car after moaning for laps that he couldn't get by
As soon as Lando starts to do what he needs to do he becomes more Max and will make the same aggressive moves at times, the qualities that make the media complain about when Max does itt, so I really wonder how that wil go down. To make an omelette first you need to break the eggs, there is no other way.
The video with Peter Windsor I almost commented on, but I didn't know..yet..if it would be an option for Kimi to finish Lewis's season. Now it's been mentioned here though, so.. eventhough speculating on Lewis's words that sounded like a 'g'bye or a thank you to his team'..is indeed just speculation, but okay.. My thoughts : he's totally finished/fed up with Merc, will let Kimi finish this season for him and can't wait/focusses on to start fresh at SF, hopefully fighting at the front and for a WDC again. That's my hope, at least. But, again, only time will tell.. Would love to see him shine again though. 🏎🏁❤️✌️
Can’t stand Lewis as a person and personally not a huge fan. As a driver he is phenomenal and it is sad to see his struggles. One can only hope that moving to Ferrari will give him renewed focus. The man has been racing a long time. I’m huge on comebacks. If he comes back and I’m wins one more WDC he would undoubtedly be the GOAT.
You've mentioned a few times that Max has spare processing power when he's driving and I think it's a great analogy. Closer to the truth is looking at single thread and multi thread benchmarks... he's just compiled differently. Hamilton OTOH has suffered mentally as all Max's team-mates have knowing that Max is just leap-years ahead of everyone else. To beat Max, you have to start at 5 years old and put in the hours. Hamilton can't put in the work - he hasn't the time left. Defeated.
My view is George is the one getting sabotaged when he did the 1 stop race and won! Then the car was underweight and he got disqualified. There is nothing George could have done to prevent the car from going underweight. It proves the team ruined his race.
I would argue that the red flag was not merely luck. You can read into the conditions (your tire wear, the amount of rain, the experience of the other drivers on rain, the type and wear of the tires of the rest of the grid, etc. ) and make a decision based on that information about the posibility of a red flag. Listening to Colapinto's and Schwartzman's radios you can know that they were struggling to survive.
When it’s wet, that’s when we see who is best. He won by what? 30 seconds? Max was so fast cuz he stayed off the lines and turned in early. Remember tho…..Senna did it in 6th gear.
lol, I watched a video from another CC making fun of you Praising Max lol!! It was amusing, they were saying the FIA rigged the race for Max to win, like the two aren’t in a feud!! Ohhh the Humanity!!😂😂😂😂😂
If Max didn't get the free tire change, do you think he would have taken the original set all 69 laps? The tires coming off the car looked pretty healthy.
I saw a picture of Max getting out of the car after the in lap when he had won the race, and when I looked at his tires, I had to double check if I was really looking at a picture of Max and his car after the race. His tires looked like they hadn’t even been used. They looked absolutely perfect. If you had told me that I was looking at a picture from before the race had started, I would’ve believed you. That’s how good his tires looked. It was absolutely insane. I know that Max played a big part in this, but surely, it must be true that the inters or wet tires barely show signs of usage if the track is wet enough, right? I don’t know if Max would’ve been allowed to stay on the inters for the entire 69 laps. In the dry, the regulations say that you are required to use a minimum of two different compounds in the race. In the wet, you’re allowed to run the entire race on inters only, but I don’t know if that means that you can use one particular set of inters for the entire duration of the race, or that you’re required to do a minimum of 1 pit stop, where you’re allowed to stay on the same wet compound if you want to…
@@Real_ghostboi If a race is considered wet, a tyre swap isn't required. It can become a safety issue if you would require a tire swap, because the tire swap is supposed to be another compound.
Don't be surprised, max has always been 1 to 2 seconds faster per lap then everybody else on a wet track. This was the case on the norrisring 2014 ( formula 3) brazil 2016 , sochi 2021 etc etc.
Only guy that can challenge max despite his struggles this year is lewis. Lewis is the only one with the killer instinct experience and skill to take the fight to max. We'll just have to wait if the car next year will deliver the goods. Can't discount lewis and yes max is currently God tier not gonna lie.
Lando wasn't referring to safety car luck but 'Max's luck', he also doubled down stating 'it wasn't talent' - Totally directed at Max! Yet Lando bottles the free air at the start through incompetence
Max Verstappen is a mature and refined lover to his car. If his car is tuned correctly by the mechanics Max has the ability to merge with it (her). Verstappen seldom fights his car while others rape their machinery, he loves it. Max is a gentle and elegant driver most of the time and that is why he wins.
I am a dutch f1 fan and ofcourse verstappen fan. But man i really feel for Hamilton. I do hope he will be able to fight for atleast 1 more championship. Ofcourse i hope for verstappen to win. But Hamilton does deserve to go for it
Is it Norris who has the pace or is it the McLaren, because I can't see where Norris accels compared to piastri. Everyone knows that McLaren is fast, really fast, but I would like to see a piastri set free of being a 2nd driver. I believe he could be more of a championship winning driver than Norris.
About Lando and Max: Although Lando has the better car for some months now, let's paraphrase it thus: Max has picked up Charles Dickens or William Shakespeare, where Lando is still stuck on Donald Duck. Greetings from NL.
Another great one.. But please...if there's one thing that's grinding my gears lately, it's the drivel that is, Merc are purposefully sabotaging Lewis. We're in flat earth territory! One thing is for sure. Martin's theory on Lewis having PTSD since Abu Dhabi 21' is where I'm at. That plus the inevitable downturn that comes with age is what's affecting him and it's totally understandable. Regardless, it will never take away his achievements to date. He moved the sport to new levels and pulled new talent along with him. He's the reason we have the Max's, taking the baton, running with it and lifting the levels higher again. History will always have Hamilton down as arguably the best of all time and unquestionably the very best of his generation.
I think that Mclaren and Lando failed to keep an eye on the weather and make the mistake to go in earlier, So at the end its not even luck, but bad management
IMHO Max needed this Adversity to solidify his 4th Championship.. Overcoming some obsticals and not having the fastest Car will serve him and his legacy in the End..
Come on guys. We talk about Perez vs Max. George is killing him. I have been a Lewis fan from 2007 but he is now stinking up the joint. He is fighting for points with rookies while his teammate in the same car is leading laps. Please guys let’s call a ball a ball and a strike a strike. Lewis, Perez, Alonzo, Ricardo are all done. @edgardoMurnia
He was raised strict but lovingly. He and his father had an agreement. Jos would do anything in his power to provide him with the best equipment and Max had to uphold the other end of the bargain and do his utmost best, always. Max was about 10-12 years old when the agreement was founded. He and his father could separate work (racing) and private very well.
Cool, I subscribed to his channel yesterday, after the algorithm recommended it!
Srry Cameron, but one correction: "...on one side you have the Sky F1 "reporters", on the other side you have true F1-fans..."
Max’s onboard on lap 1 looks like it’s a video game with AI set to Very Easy.
The way he just drives around guys through t3 was so weird to watch
The patience is impressive. He easily could’ve been more aggressive, but went for safety and stability instead
@@michaeldellorso889reminds me of when he stormed Spa. Had to get into heavy breaking multiple times on the first lap because people were going off rejoining unsafely and then Stroll was ahead of him 😂
I wanted to say the same thing
It’s gunna be real interesting next year when Lewis is in a Ferrari. Should be fun to watch.
Max haters still in the denial fase.
It will adjust, give it some time.
FYI, FIA only is against hard racing and cursing words. And then only for certain racers.
Fia had the nerve to write down and publish that norris Assumed, that he has to go for another formation lap. Pole sitter in f1 assuming the rules, driving on a closed track? Like on my local karting track i would get slapped in the eye for that xd
@@broyout3586fia yapping about safety 1st, this sao paolo weeknd was everything against safety xdd
You two guys together.....please make this a periodic item...
Lando embarrassed himself on & off the track. It was simply lovely! He is not championship material, he can't even beat Oscar.
Both are not Championship material looking at their difficult driving in this race - in this weather.
@@lexip9225 I’m not sure Oscar can beat Lando, just look at last few races. For me there is not much of a difference between the two of them. Put Max in that McLaren and you get your self driver champion, that’s for sure!
Put some respect on Oscars name
@@Bosnomoyaoscar is a rookie compared to landom who was benched for a year before f1, norris is experienced, prioritized by the team etc
How does Max do it? Finding the dry line? He is sniffing around like a hound haha. 🤣🤣 Lovely interview; I had lost hope for Max before.. but this has restored my interest in F1. Like the psychology of the F1 driver too. well done!
😅😅😅😅😂😂
Straight line traction
The key.
It seems that Peter Windsors mantra "short cornering" that is even more valuable in rain condition. "Short Cornering" that Max is perfecting.
I don't think Max did it in the wet but maybe I am wrong!?
Im a massiv Max fan BUT Lewis I have a huge respect for and hope Ferrari gives him a great car because Lewis deserve that!
Goosebumps in the first 2min of this video…much respect
wow glad to hear! tell me what you liked!
Oh the humanity...Its a joy listening to you Cameron.
If this was a lucky drive, why was this the second time he did this exact same thing back in 2016.
😅
Thanks for this great explanation!
To be honest i agree. Like i say its even the thought of using that word which shows a broken mindset. Good sbout
Imo..
"We did nothing wrong" - after basically doing everything wrong, even things like i didnt even think u could fck up
- 3 starts
- driving off track multiple times
- breaking a major safety rule and after saying “i assumed” TF???
- strategy
And after all that saying what he said, avoiding responsibility, the circumstances hate me bla bla
Loving the The Undercut!
Rain levels the race cars, but divides the drivers
Awesome discussion guys!

Thanks for the insights! Nice to know and listen to 😊

💥I’m singing 🎵 in the rain💥
and dont forget. When he isn't F1 racing he is sim racing. Huge advantage for him.
Interesting take on the reason Max was so good regarding the avoidance of the rubbered race line. Great work Cam.
Max's lines during the start were just perfection. It's almost automatic to him.
Max took the red pill and became Neo. It’s like we watch him race in the Matrix. The other drivers are just NPC’s.
You could see it when they showed his live on board v Piastri. The final left corner they were basically on the power at the same time, which is why Oscar didn’t accelerate away. It’s why he’s such a great overtaker
3 mins in and subbed!
Could not possibly agree more!
Interesting F1 information. You two are the perfect podcast combination, more of this please.
Cheers!!
I love your comments on Maximilian Verstappen, so poetic! But I am Dutch 😂❤ you are great 🥰
As a former international sporter, rowing, my believe is that there are 3 components deciding if you are a good sporter, or if you belong to the best.
And in karting no rain tyres.... So looking for grip is even more difficult in a kart
Jos also beat the shiza Max whenever he screwed up. That helps heaps. 😅😅😅

Great content Cameron , subscribed again 👍 since you got rid of those two bozos.
To be fair to lando his " it was luck " comment in context, in my.view he was talking about his OWN luck and talent rather than max
Excellent stuff again chaps….
I'm no F1 expert but Martin seems to really understand the emotional and mental aspect of driver performance. I really enjoyed this presentation.
Thanks heaps!! What did you pick up on id be keen to hear
what astonishes me is that Max’s fastest lap in the race was 3 seconds faster than Lando’s pole lap
Cam: “The goatiest f1 mind Mr Peter D Windsor, how are you doing sir?…It doesn’t matter how you are doing!”
Peter: 😧
I wonder if one day Cameron will forget who he’s speaking with and will pull this on Peter
28:52 This is why I've said in your comments or in Quickstop's. This is why The Scuderia has hired Sir Lewis. I don't think they believe in Charles to be able to get it over the line.
Agree
Love it!
Lando " i ran out of talent" norris
Max I have a new illegal power unit Verstappen.
Max’s nerve endings are intertwined with his car. Say what you will about Jos Verstappen, but he’s ultimately responsible for his son’s success.
In the wet, you’re allowed to run the entire race on inters only, but I don’t know if that means that you can use one particular set of inters for the entire duration of the race, or that you’re required to do a minimum of 1 pit stop, where you’re allowed to stay on the same wet compound if you want to…
@@Real_ghostboi I agree. I don't know either. Would be interesting to know.
Lewis is losing to George, again
Best years of sir lewis have past
If all the current drivers raced in an IROC series, it would settle the question of who the best drivers are.
Lando wasn't referring to safety car luck but 'Max's luck', he also doubled down stating 'it wasn't talent' - Totally directed at Max! Yet Lando bottles the free air at the start through incompetence
Jim Clark best driver of all times finish the Nuremberg Ring in the rain. 10 minutes ahead of the field. Enough said I've got about 100 more?
I not a fan of Max Verstappen. Great drive not luck was skill i like him need more like him.
Pray Ferrari is a strong antidote as Mercedes is like poking the trauma over and over again race after race. Criminal.
But Hamilton does deserve to go for it
What goes around comes around. A red flag ruined Max's Qualy, and in the race helped. Even Steven.
Is it Norris who has the pace or is it the McLaren, because I can't see where Norris accels compared to piastri. Everyone knows that McLaren is fast, really fast, but I would like to see a piastri set free of being a 2nd driver. I believe he could be more of a championship winning driver than Norris.
He is good!
Go get triple crown Max better than 8 f1 WDC.
Lewis is 40 years old. Seeing Lewis 'at his best' is a ship that has long sailed.
These simulator babies are on another Level.
Here's the deal I'm the best there is. Plain and simple. I wake up in the morning and I piss excellence.
Max has extreme tyre grip sense.
