Plz carry CK Worldwide's 17 aircooled version of the flexloc!! By the way I purchased a tig finger from you about 6 months ago specifically for the weld test they give where I work now... It, in my mind/opinion, is a must have for a welder in their toolboxes! The test the give is I believe the same as the UA-31b maybe... It's a 6G 3 inch schedule 40 aluminum pipe/tubing with a consumable insert and the 3 different supervisors stand there with u and watch you lay down every single pass...They couldn't believe how steady my hands were, how uniform/even and nice looking my beads were because all they've seen is ppl freehanding it and fail quite often, but I owe it to you for putting out an awesome product that can help ppl such as myself improve their skill and to help attain great paying jobs!! And when it comes down to test time it's time to show them what you've got and ur is a big part of where my skill level is today!! Thanks from Tennessee!!

May I you commend you for providing a very professional lecture and detailed demonstration on TIG torch welding techniques. I'm a retired old time welder and structural engineering technician, having started back in the mid 60's. These welding videos bring back memories of having completed jobs that left one with a feeling of satisfaction, having accomplished something of value with one's own hands and skills.

weldingtipsandtricks Hello I have been watching all of your videos and am a big fan. I have a Lincoln Square wave Tig 175 and was doing a small repair job on a steel bracket this weekend for a friend. I was having issues with the torch lighting. It kept wanting to light from up inside the torch from the gas lens. Torch is a Lincoln PTA-17. I ground and tried new tungsten, double checked my ground, cleaned my piece and to no avail.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Jody
In previous videos I watched you use a CK #9 flex head and a CK#20 (water cooled) swivel head - got so impressed I purchased 2 of them for my welders (I sold the Miller 180 Sycro and the Miller 200 Synco and replaced them with a full bundle 200DX including wireless foot control) I have also use the CK #9 for setup and tweaking and then when getting down to just pushing weld I use the CK #20 and will weld at 120/160 amps till my fingers melt (even with a tig finger - takes a long time). The welders I sold went with a miller cooler and the swivel head torches - I have stayed in touch with the people that purchased the ones I sold and they just love the torches and your recommendations and both of them have subscribed to you.
Also gave the each 2 tig fingers to make sure they can do a great job
    Can't get better than that
    thx

Just picked up a Everlast PowerTig 200DX as my first TIG welder. Your information was timely as this unit has a plug for a water cooler, it came from the factory with an air cooled torch. I'll upgrade as my skill set improves.
So far I've done TIG brazing of dissimilar metal, some 4140, and mild steel work with it. I have to give you much of the credit for what I've learned about TIG. Thanks Jody.

Good video. I have been Tig welding since 1979 but always learn something. I mostly weld 4130 aircraft weldments. My favorite torch is the water cooled weldcraft 20. I got over 20 years out of a Linde HW 20, I consider that pretty good since I used house water for about ten of those years. Current machine is a Miller syncrowave 351 but I really want a Dynasty 200 dx after trying one at a trade show. Thanks for the great videos. Kevin

Jody I have to ask about the way you hold a torch. you hold it like you are holding a hammer most of the time. sometimes you hold it like a pencil.
is there a science to the way a torch should be held or is it just a matter of comfort and how to get in where you can fit in???
    thanks, great video

Hey Jody, I recently bought your Tig pro consumable kit. I really am liking it. So this may sound crazy but I am using a weldcote auto darking hood $145.00. But when I use ceramic gas cups or any gas cups I get arc flash. I take the gas cup off and go to the regular long cups I get no arc flash with hours of welding. Same exact material and amps I took my hood back to my weld supplier because I thought it was the hood. Came home fired up welder exact same thing with brand new hood. Do I need a better helmet. What do you recommend!?

Hey chase not sure if you fixed your problem but was reading thro and saw this. If you adjust the sensitivity and delay on your hood. It will help with this. And move your head so you can see the arc more it should help

I just ordered a WP-17-25R 150 Amp Air-Cooled torch set-up, to hook up to my Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC welder. If I'm welding 1/16 sheet carbon steel, do I have to get a mix of Argon &Co2, or straight Argon? Also, I'm learning the tig process, and still having issues making a good bead in the 3F position. Could you, if possible give me advice or post a video addressing this problem?

Nice video, Judy. You asked about torches and welders we are using. I have water-cooled CK flex-loc 230 amp torch with a #7 gas lens and a 10 year old Lincoln Precision Tig 225. If I can find the money I just might get an Inverter, but I had a bad experience a cheap Everlast a few years ago so I will probably look for a used Dynasty.

Jody Awesome don't stop, one stop welding education, sharing your knowledge like this is outstanding.
One thought, off topic. Have you touched on vision as in using glasses or eye-ware under the helmet? In my old age of 53 I am frustrated in really seeing my weld bead like I use to . Any suggestions or video tips you can share on using eye-ware with a shield may be helpful. Sometimes I get messed up with focal lengths and or with reflections inside a helmet that make me have to stop laying a bead and that's all bad.

Hi I started off with a cheap hf DC machine 200amp, I wasn’t happy with the results so decided I need to upgrade to an A/C D/C 200amp machine with all the whistles and bells, I’m now able to produce what I would consider to be reasonable welds, but one thing I’ve wondered for a while and I’m probably going to get shot down for this, why is it not possible to lay a length of filler rod into the weld and weld over it, just asking 👴🏻

Don’t buy a torch with cheap hoses. The water cooled ones may leak, and the air cooled ones are so stiff that they make manipulating the torch more difficult. Especially in a cold environment, the cheap vinyl hose will fight you. Junk.

You talk a lot about the stubby gas lenses, I don't know if you know I am sure you do but you should mention how you can use the standard 9,20 series nozzle with a 17,26,18 if you buy a collet body adaptor. You don't have the gas lens but I like them better for aluminum especially higher amps because aluminum does not need as good gas coverage it cost quite a bit less then the gas lenses and it holds up better with higher amps it does not replace the gas lens for things like stainless but it is most definantly a replacement for the standard 17,26,18 consumables.

If you curious about where many of those guys on instagram learned to weld including the one reference about ToxicFab, many of them learned on the Honda-Tech Welding and Fabrication board, before that place it was rare you would see any of that kind of work on the internet. You can find ToxicFab first posts and his first welds there. He and many others learned how to weld from the posts from user agtronicmotorsport who you can find on instagram. Google the title "Post your best welds!!!!!!!" and it will take you to the the section of the site.

pipe welding and boiler making is a good way to start welding to gain valuable experience. then u can do side jobs and even start ur own welding business if u wanted... but mainly I suggest starting at a good welding college and getting all the certificates u can get... train from good college instructors that's the best way to go ...

Holy smoke; so much to know, to learn - thank goodness for videos such as yours. I am totally new to tig welding, deciding to go tig rather than oxy for mostly brazing purposes, of which I have had nothing but problems: much smoke, spatter and the blowing of holes in 3 mm mild steel plate, as I have tried and failed time and time again to bronze fill cutouts of a metal sculpture I have been working on for some time now. I have up and down the amps, paid particular attention to ridding the metal of surface impurities, cut the argon flow just to see if it would make a difference, but all my efforts have been in vain. My machine is a UNI-MIG WELDING ARC 170 DC INVERTER AIR COOLED using pure ARGON, so if you or any of your subscribers/viewers have any hints and tips it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, your welds are nothing short of works of art. Just an observation, dear sir, but true nonetheless. Best wishes.

mig-tig & stick welding each have their unique skill sets. so that means alot of practice in each... the more torch time the better..
