    One of my all-time favorite players. There were faster running backs, and there were bigger running backs, but NO running back ran as hard as he did.
    You've heard about the players that play 110% on every play? He set the mark for that statement.

    William Andrews certainly deserves the love. He was an absolute beast. Those late 70's to early 80's teams...ahhhh man, with Lynn Cain as a running mate, too. For a minute there we got to see a really scary backfield

    My favorite running back of all-time. A LOT of defensive backs smartly made 'business decisions' when facing Andrews after watching Lott and Steve Wilson get trucked on national television...

  • @tommythomason6187
    @tommythomason6187 Рік тому +7

    He was mainly the blocking back at Auburn, for Joe Cribbs and James Brooks, but Falcon scouts must have known he was a lot more than a blocker. Sometimes, it was Andrews - and Gerald Riggs - in the same backfield. That's a powerhouse tandem.

    • @Odawg96
      @Odawg96 Рік тому +1

      @@truthiscensored He definitely WAS. He was John Madden’s favorite player in the early 80s. He might not have had the most TDs, but EVERYONE knew that Andrew’s was the NFL’s premiere one-man gang. His only rival in that category during his career was Walter Payton. Payton may have been better as a pure RB, but I’d give Andrews the edge as an all-around player during their peak years…and we all know that Payton was one of the greatest all-around players of all time. Fun facts: Andrew’s has more thousand-yard rushing seasons than Marcus Allen. He also once caught 80+ passes in a season. Until he got hurt, was one of the most productive backs in the league. They didn’t keep stats on pancake blocks either!

    Man these running backs of the early 80s don't get enough shine. It was when the passing game was picking up but there were still some great backs of that period. Andrews, Wilbur Montgomery, Joe Morris, Joe Cribbs, Billy Sims, Freeman McNeil, Curt Warner, Kenny King, Lionel James...

      Riggs & Andrews imo opinion were exceptional players on not so exceptional teams. Riggs led NFL in TD'S in 1991 won Super Bowl & retired original Jerome Bettis style. Andrews a selfless warrior. Appreciate you watching & commenting.

    • @Odawg96
      @Odawg96 Рік тому +4

      Here we go with the foolishness. People that were around to see Andrews play-like myself-know that he WAS an elite player. As I’ve said elsewhere, he was John Madden’s favorite player and may have very well been the league’s best all-around back from ‘79 to ‘83…running, passing, and blocking. If you compare his production during those years to guys who had his skill set-Payton, Marcus Allen, and Chuck Muncie-he compared VERY favorably. Never mind that the league was RICH with running backs at that time. Yeah, he was stuck on a not so great in the division with Montana, but lots of great RBs have been in that situation: O.J., Payton, Sanders, Sayers, etc.

      @@nflxfilesI was excited when he was traded to Washington. His 221 yards against the Eagles in 1989 I wonder if it wasn't for the fumbles and injuries he might have played longer as a starter. Earnest Byner and he were a great running back tandom then.
