  • Painter's tape is really popular for DIY painting projects. Open up any DIY video or how to blog where something needs to be painted and the first thing that comes out is the trusty roll of painter's tape or masking tape. Most people use it in cases where it shouldn't be used. I have an old house that needs a lot of painting. Like many people, I started off using tape but learned the hard way that it's usually not needed. In fact, it's counter productive in most cases. Here's a couple of tricks I learned from the school of hard knocks and by watching professional painters work.

When I say as quickly as possible I am talking about the time spent doing the work, not completing the job. It's been cold and rainy here and I haven't been able to get more than one coat on when I've painted. Oil paint takes quite a bit longer to dry than latex or urethane and the days suitable for painting have been few and far between. Thanks for watching, cheers!

@@timmynormand8082 Glad you liked it. I appreciate the knowledge pros like you have shared with me over the years. The putty knife thing is one technique that seems obvious after you see it, but I didn't think to do it that way when I painted this place the first time. I think the big box stores like to sell lots of painters tape and plastic sheeting rather than telling customers how to do it other ways. I've you've got another other tips or tricks it would be great to hear them!
