- In this video we are checking out the Unreal Engine 5 Matrix Awakens PC Demo. I am running an RTX 3070, Intel i5-10600k 4.10GHz, 32GB, 2TB Samsung m.2. This is running in PIE mode (play in editor) so my frame rates aren't the greatest. However you can run the packaged demo below, and it will run a lot smoother.
You can download the Packaged Demo that is only 18GB:

So I just downloaded and tested the packaged demo on PC (you need only the 4GB "Windows.7z.001" file, then unzip it to 18GB). With highest settings in 1080p, 20fps on Titan Xp + i7-8700k. With some adjusted settings, 40fps. Uses ~6GB VRAM.
I can now understand the hype around this. They hit the holy grail of computer graphics with the Nanite adaptive mesh refinement. The detail everywhere blows you off the chair. There is no cheating going on. The spokes of bicycles, fences, street litter, the undersides of cars with suspension and exhaust pipes, ... everything is meshed geometry in extreme detail. You can look inside the building windows and you will find properly rendered office rooms with furniture. I can't wait for the next generation of video games that will come out of this, especially for VR.
well the room is just an image.
how do u even unzip it to 18gb
how do you change the settings?
I have a 5800x and overclocked 3060 ti which puts it really close to a 3070 and am using the packaged demo. You mentioned that frame rates are better in the "small city" as if you have a choice. I wish I knew what you meant by that. You said you're getting about 30 fps and so am I, but your video looks much smoother than mine. I get lots more annoying motion blur than this too.
Super cool!! Thank you)
@8:57 that car went some fishing xD
Could you please tell me what settings are you using? I am also getting a rtx 3070 desktop and I want to see if my PC can run it at max
One thing I have been wondering, but haven’t seen so far (and I don’t have the HDD space to check for myself). Are the buildings in the packs just static groups of modules, or are they blueprints that you can edit dynamically, like in that video where he places a building on a pier and changes the size to fit? I can understand not shipping the whole city generation engine, but something like placeable dynamic buildings would be useful on its own, even more than static buildings or separate modular meshes.
They are instances, so reach building is a map made with instanced meshes so the size on the disk is very small
with which key do you navigate the menu that opens with the O key? I open it but I can't select anything it doesn't work
How did you get yours to work?, mine is saying missing plugins, can't load City Sample?
Hi thank you for this video I downloaded the full project but I don't know how to set this play mode and show the menu as shown on your video would u please explain that thank you
Is there anywhere I can see how they did the car chase scene? I assume it's a sequencer file.
why the cars windows don't reflect but the paint does? is it a refraction setting?
What did this car do 😂 08:56
How the windows are made btw? Is that actual geometry behind the glass or is it just shader, like parallax mapping or some sort?
Having downloaded the unofficial packaged PC demo I had the same question. There is more than parallax mapping (i.e. War Thunder) going on. The objects in the rooms are 3D objects. At the same time everything has a full bright appearance and the room edges are not clearly defined. Some have apparent stair-casing where the wall meets the floor. I have not thought of looking at the wireframe unfortunately, so I cannot tell for sure if the room uses parallax mapping or is actual geometry.
I took a look again and the room is definitely just one low res texture that gets projected (either using parallax mapping onto a flat surface or using actual geometry).
The entire furniture is another texture comprised of color, starting depth and end depth. Think of it like a height map for the camera facing side, and another one for the distant side. Where the far end is closer than the near end, it shows transparent. All convex objects can be represented in this manner, but the illusion falls apart when you have gaps in the geometry. A good example is the room with the red desk facing the window and an office chair behind it. Between the table top and the backrest, there is a gap that the depth texture cannot account for, so along the portion with the backrest it looks like the desk is extending right into it.
There are also obvious artifacts from the iterative sampling of the depth map to find the right depth and color for any pixel on screen (just like with a parallax bump map shader). They mitigated the 'stepped' look that typically results from that with some random offset to the ray I think. It looks more fuzzy than your usual parallax bump map in any case, almost like looking through frosted glass. Epic then turned most ground level windows into actual frosted glass and suddenly it feels natural. 😄
Whats a the difference between the small city map and the big city map?
car destruction is not working on my system. I downloaded the 18gb one. how do you get that to work?
Hey thanks for the video, but why do i have 20fps average with a 3070 ryzen 3700x and 16gb ram??? Also is there a repack of Valley of the ancient demo? Ty
Is your system RAM in dual channel, and are you running the demo from SSD or NVME
If we are really living in the Matrix, then all of our computers would be virtual machines.
Does this assets contains whole map in the demo game of matrix ? Or not like titles in marketplace "city samples"
it's named city samples on the marketplace.
Hello the Best ue youtube creator
did you have to install the houdini plugin!
Can i use this demo and do some changes and release it as my own game???
Has anyone uploaded it to torrents yet? It was removed from Google Drive, and on Mega needs a premium
I'm new to unreal engine 5, and have downloaded the 92 gb files from the epic store but I have no idea how to run it. Can you help me?, my GPU is rx 5700xt does lumen works on that or do I need a rtx GPU?
not sure how well it will run but if you go to the maps folder there are 3 demo maps, you can try the small city demo. Also the packaged demo (link in the description) should run better, although I am not sure if the packaged demo is the small or big city map
@@SmartPoly the packaged demo link doesn't work
Don't play with UE5 icon. Instead you can find project download folder and double cilck project file.
Hey ! Great video ! (the download link doesn't work btw)
wonder how this will perform on my six year old 6600k 16gb ram 2060,..
8:55 It's an error in the matrix. It happens when they change something..
yeah it broke illusion pretty hard when that happened
lmao i spent so long looking for this comment
8:58 talking about some dips ?
dlss isnt present?
Stupid question. How do you quit from the packaged version?
Alt F4😄
@@vladvah77 Hahaha. Already tried that and it triggered an unreal engine crash report screen. I do wish Epic will do a proper packaged version that exposes some graphical settings, integrates DLSS and has a proper quit option.
@@woodearthdvd They wont. This isn't meant to be "played". Its a tech demo. There's literally no point to optimize it, or make it "user friendly". It's not meant to be user friendly
I tried the Unreal Engine 5 Demo with my PC config :
Gigabyte B550 GAMING X V2,
Ryzen 5 5500 6x 4.2GHz,
RTX 4070 12Go PALIT,
DDR4 RAM 2x16Go PC-3600,
M.2 SSD 1000GB Samsung 980.
My PC almost crashed... I'd got 6FPS
Someone could tell me what to do please ?
How can I turn this in VR??
is this played on a laptop ?
can i run it with 1060 6gb?
8:56 car just falls through the road lol
Limit can download from Mega. No another free download cloud. Thanks
8:57 WTF Happend to that car? xD
I’m running this on my ryzen 5 5600x, and Ventus 3x OC RTX 3070 Lhr, and it says that I need more video memory to run it more smoothly…. It runs, but it’s choppy.
Any idea why that might be happening?
I made my video here with the 3070ti;-)
Will this work on 1050ti on low settings😅
20 fps at most if you set it to medium. Unplayable due to low VRAM.
0.05fps lol
You should try! I can run it on a 1060 6gb on medium pretty decent! 20fps
Update- I tried to optimize matrix awakens project in ue5
I am getting 30-35 fps in 1050ti
Can this work on rtx 3060ti?
It should
Ofc
it runs a lot better packaged!! I was playing in the editor in this video
@@SmartPoly 20 fps and insane stuttering with 3060 ti
@@SmartPoly how do you run it packaged?
GTA VI will be like this.
lmao no it wont. If this game without cutscenes, speeches, text, characters, vehicles etc and all that extra stuff gta 5 has. Itwill be like 400gb
Im on 48gb ram, 12 core cpu and rtx 3080 16gb - and it stil run max 30 fps on big city on epic settings. On consoles of next gen they run on high. Cinematic goes to 10-18 fls but difference is visible. I guess its for 64gb ram and 3090 to gee to 60 fps
are you running in editor or packaged?
If you're running in editor... Consider 30%-45% performance drop.
Consoles run at medium 2.
Packaged as shiping build for top performance.
@@timmyp6297 PS5 runs it at almost max settings but at 30fps
At around 8:54, car glitches under road while driving
so?
Bro I hope you got the DLSS version now. It runs and looks better than any console or AMD card. Yes, a 3070. Its great!
8:57 :^)
Im seeing pop ins and flickering on certain objects. Its stuttery as well. Some of the objects look less detailed. So basically runs inferior compared to a PS5
Lol here you go. No it doesn't. It's not even close. Ps the temporal artifacts you see are present in ps5 Xbox and pc... What will get to you is tensor math acceleration, called dlss right now. NVidia rtx is the only one to have it currently. Every other ue5 demo that has dlss added in doubled in performance, and eliminates temporal artifacts. The gpus have the hardware. Nothing else does.
*this demo is proving that tensor math acceleration is absolutely unavoidable. If and when they add dlss to this, it will run 50-60fps easy.
@@timmyp6297 Well I have played both PS5 and pc version on a 4k oled TV. Everything is noticeable on a huge screen. The 3070 is unable to match the PS5 for this demo. You probably need a 3080 or higher. Also pc version is missing assets compared to PS5
@@ajdaniel8128 I'll post a video for you later. Have fun in denial.
@@ajdaniel8128 HEY YOU WANT THAT VIDEO? A DLSS BUILD IS OUT NOW. Wanna see what this looks like at 60fps? Lol ps5 Haha
i just tried it on ps5. it's alright, it looks great, but there isn't anything to do. i like flying around the city. you need to make your own fun tbh. cars kinda suck, beamng drive has better soft body physics.
lmao thats why its a demo, you can literally build upon
💀💀 8:57
Where did it go?😧
only got 60-70 fps :D with 1070
I really don't like the matrix demo. graphically the lighting is so washed out and honestly kind of ugly to look at. The valley and giant boss fight demos are way better at showcasing how amazing UE5 can look. Because in that it's not trying to be hyper realistic. It's a 'stylized' over the top realism. And to me, that's what looks better in games. Take Uncharted 4 for example (And yes, I know... that's not UE). That game looks absolutely phenomenal, not because the lighting is trying to replicate 'photo realism' or because the people look way to realistic to the point of being a little creepy (Looking at you 3D Keanu) The characters and scenery are 'realistic stylized' They look real, but they still have this 'game graphic' look about them which looks way better.
The lighting is supposed to be washed out, it's based upon the matrix movies
Which has a green tinge when in the Matrix...
@@80TheMadLord08 you'll have to export uncharted's models and size them up to ue matrix demo.
The characters are really bad...
They aren't
