Thank you Darby for playing my hack! For the final boss I had more custom boss fight plans, but they weren't done at the time for the sonic hacking contest. So it ended up being just a reskinned egg robo. Glad you enjoyed it regardless!

what would the custom boss have been like?
@@That0neDude I could still make it someday, but what the hey. The general idea would be three phases. It would be floating for one, getting rid of the death egg-robo animations.The feet sprite and art would be repurposed for a traditional giant Tails head, likely on a chain like neck that would attack Sonic, similar to the mystic cave crawlton caterkiller badnik (the code to replicate it is in the game already).
Once that's destroyed the body itself would lower and you would have to destroy that. There would be various other boss tails explosions I was thinking of using, bullets that act as Tails surrogates? Perhaps a horizontal sweep? One that slowly goes the across the screen in a circle like a giant orbinaut?
With the body destroyed you would think you are done, but then there is phase 3. See that piece on the body that looks like a repurposed yellow head holding the tails? THAT is supposed to be the secret phase 3. Would be more nimble to hit. My dream attack to program for this final fight, and the one I wanted most to do would be a giant explosion tornado that slowly sucks the player in, maybe even other objects from off screen. A side idea would be turning phase 3 into falling in a vertical shaft escaping the death egg, like the 3rd world (planet scorch) boss of Ristar.
The plot would be whatever caused Tails to have explosion powers would mutate him into a monster (Both Sonic and Robotnik would be in danger) and if not stopped/turned back would doom the world below, let alone the galaxy. That's all if I go back to it of course. Been having trouble with adding custom music to Sonic 2, and without that there isn't really any drive to add stuff like custom graphics and make unique zones like I want. A full Sonic Tailsplosion hack would have a post apocalypse theme with strange mutant enemies and zones with names like "Mutant Night,"
Knowing the intended theme makes the final boss feel less out of left field

My theory on why Tails is working for Robotnik is because, he killed Tails in Sonic 2 on game gear, and Robotnik revived his corpse and re-programmed him to kill Sonic

This is better than the other Sonic hack where you had to run from Tails to win. I loved that one too but this one is awesome! Don't get me wrong the other was awesome too but this one has a bigger challenge to it

3:47 the springs were actually put because originally sonic 2 and sonic CD were the same game and in sonic 2 there was supposed to be the time travel mechanic but they probably just left the springs there and as you probably know "You must go 88 miles per hour to time travel"

Hey Darby, I've watched Episode 1 and 2, and I just noticed that when Tails blows up, you can see that Tails is full of remorse. I think Robotnic, is forcing Tails to blow Sonic up.
Yeah it's like he's not trying to kill sonic and tries to not explode but robitnik makes him do it

In all seriousness, I like how these rom hacks of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 make you want to be careful of stuff.
The Sonic 2 Tailsplosion makes you want to be careful of where Tails is. #FloopynotFloppy
The Sonic 2 XL rom hack makes you careful of how many onion rings you collect.
The Sonic 1 EA Edition makes you careful of how many buttons you press.
The Sonic 1 Omochao Edition makes you careful of how many things you do in the game.
The 4 player Sonic 1 Rom Hack makes you careful of which character is the one that has to not be killed. One wrong death and it'll cost you.

Darby if you want to get through Wing Fortress the first shooting chicken you come up on you can jump over him to a platform and you can take that route to bypass the lower level so you do not have to worry about falling to your death.
Favorite zone, eh? I think my top three in Sonic 2 were Mystic Cave, Oil Ocean, and Casino Nights, but i don't know what my fave among the three is.
This is such a fun hack. I may have to check it out myself ^_^ And yes....the commentary is what makes BTG so much fun! I personally think Bomber Tails is a fun character and I love his voice :P

I find the shield stacking gimmick kind of handy.
Darby I watched episode 1 and 2. I think it is cool but too bad that sonic the creator didn't give sonic a secret weapon to deal with tails blowing up and I do not mean the shield it could be used when fighting the boss so you could hit both tails and Dr. Robotnik but guess that would require more special programming to work.

I think that is the corpse of tails fused into the death egg robot because, when BTG defeated silver sonic, tails lost, and that implies he died, when the death egg robot was being prepared the corpse fused, and it made that thing.
