I got panicked as i have exam coming in and i searched for french keyboard and not a single video was helpful until this one. I am glad that you made this video. Thank you so much sir. 👍🏻
This was excellent. I looked at two different UA-cam tutorials and it wasn't working for me. You made yours very clear and simple and now I am off and running. THANK YOU!
Hmmm, on my new Windows 10 PC the Control-key combination does NOT work! So after research I found the best way: I right click the Taskbar, then choose "Touch Keyboard." With the cursor where I want it, I click on the Touch Keyboard, pick a letter, Click and Hold on it using the left mouse button, move the mouse to whatever accent I want, and click on it! Done!
@@glenrothwell6608 I'm pretty sure that if you set your keyboard to "International" layout it will work (although I don't have a PC running Windows 10 to hand to check...)
Very clear set of instructions and it should be so straightforward but I don't seem to able to make this work on my windows 10 machine. Do I need to change any keyboard settings to get it working?
I'm afraid I no longer actively use a PC (I'm exclusively Mac these days) so I'm not sure of the exact settings but please change your keyboard layout to 'International' and that should do the trick.
Thank you so much!! After 20 years in the UK I have to learn how to type on the pc in my own language. Glad I found your tutorial, it will make my life so much easier! :)
I tried CTRL + SHIFT + & (all at once then release) ----> o or O. It makes the symbol œ on a word document. It didn't work in this comment section, though.
Thanks very much for this, Rachel. Since I made the video, I am no longer actively using a PC so am glad you have clarified the key combination for œ as in sœur, cœur, bœuf, etc. I'm not sure why it didn't work in the comment section... there's no problem typing that character on a Mac in Safari browser. (I wonder if it's browser-related at your end?)
@ Hugh A N ,this is undoubtedly the best video explaining the typing of all the accents .I am so very grateful to you .I appreciate the clear and detailed explanation. You are just Super .Thanks a ton & God Bless You abundantly.
That doesn't work for me. But, when I held all 3 together it worked in Microsoft Word. When I am in email thought, that instead puts my cursor into the search bar.
Not working for Windows 10 Home Laptop PC. I tried a lot of times on notepad, wordpad, etc with various Microsoft language input methods especially the francais (french/canada) version and also the default English US input method. Please help !!!
how to type n’est? because it always appears with nést. do i have to double the ‘ and delete 1 to make that word? or you typed it with english keyboard?
See the video at ua-cam.com/video/lpJzZ6NF9SA/v-deo.html for the grave accent. In the video, it shows how to type an à but, in the case of a ù, you press control-grave, and then u.
Hello Hugh, This video has helped many but for some reason this isn't working for me. I tried typing in google search bar and sticky notes, the accents were not typing. Could you please help me in this matter. I've been struggling for quite some time. Thanks
thank you sooooo much i was looking for this i even now subscribed you......................................... thank you so much i had been looking for this
I wish Windows and Linux had hold letter and select the accent like on mac os. Windows and Linux I don't get you guys and your desire for keybinding humbug.
I'm working on a Mac keyboard at the moment... However, I think the following will work. CTRL + 1 + o for lowercase œ and CTRL + 1 + Maj + o for uppercase Œ. Let me know if that works for you.
Thanks! I wish I had found your video a long time ago!!! I have been typing using the Alt + the three digit symbols, but the problem is that I forget some of the numbers from time to time. You give very clear, concise explanations. Question: is there a shortcut for œ or would you still have to type Alt 0156?

Quarantine here and this helps a lot! Thanks! My French teacher asked the class if we know how to type accent using English keyboards lol (yeah she's French)
I'm kind of pissed I'm just seeing this video right now. For years I tried to figure out how to do the accents. I eventually settled with downloading the language pack in my computer settings and then I bought a french keyboard to make it easier to type. That way is actually pretty good but a lot of time was wasted on my part not knowing the stuff in this video. I even did the write the accents on google translate and copy them into wordpad to use them later. This would have saved me 7 years ago when I took french in college.
It's unbelievable how long it has taken me to find this, the clearest explanation on the internet. Thank you!

I didn't catch the part that you have to install the "International" keyboard first. Did you mention it? Most users have QUERTY keyboard as default.
you do not need international keyboard; ctrl & ÆŒß (s), ctrl @ Å, ctrl/ø, alt ctrl ^ š ,
