  • I developed this system myself. The beauty for me is that with this method my costs are minimal. Also the finish of the badge is better than anything else I have seen. Over locked badges look really naff. laser cut badges often have borders where the stitching has been nicked by the laser, or have been hand cut leaving loads of material visible.

I like the idea of the plastic. but. is it plastic or cellophane it sounds like a high grade crinkly cellophane wrap. Does it stretch any. .most plastic doesn't have the appearance of wrinkles and make that sound just trying to figure it out. Thanks

    love the technique.
i am frustrated with the overpriced patch sheets and other drawn out methods for patches.
can you clarify the stabilers used?
non stitch n tear and stitch and tear
are these regional names for cutaway and tear away stabilizer?

yes, 'non stitch and tear' is cut away and 'stitch and tear' is tear away.
I started using this method after seeing a daisy wheel type adapter that could be attached to some machines, but the costs involved where ridiculous. When I took a close look at it I realised that the plastic looked and felt like the stuff we get our stock delivered in. However I found that a single sheet did not work to well so I experimented until I got the result I wanted.

I just got my first machine which will also embroidery. I'm not sure what the purpose of the plastic is and if it will hold up once used over and over on a garment. Please advise.

      Hi Maria,
the plastic gives support while the badge is being embroidered. When the embroidery is finished the badge can be just popped out. There should be no plastic showing around the edges, but if there are a couple of pieces they are easy enough to pick out. The cutaway material shown in the video is what gives the badge it's strength. The plastic has no bearing on strength and durability of the badge.

Thanks...the plastic does crinkle or disturb the life of the badge? Won't for instance get moldy? We live in FL where things often turn moldy. But I do love this whole idea and will try it. Thanks.

If i send you a design (a band name) could you make a patch then?

I can make a patch for pretty much any design, however in order to produce one with a band name on it, I would need to know that the person ordering it had the necessary license to produce copyright merchandise. My embroidery company decorates all manner of merchandise for the music industry, all of which is properly licensed by our customers. I am sorry if this is unhelpful but I must follow a strict code of conduct.
