    Generally a pretty good explanation. Much better than many on youtube. I do have a couple of comments.... .... 1) At 1:33 her hands a completely off the instrument and it isn't screwed down yet. Keep one hand on the handle until the thing is screwed down. 2) screw it down only 2 finger tight, which she in fact does, not hand (fist) tight like the narrator states 3) hubs are not usually left sticking up that far. Too easily knocked around. Drive them in flush or nearly so.

    The leveling screws are set to midpoint before you stow the gun the day before. When you mount the gun at the break of day, the leveling screws are already set to midpoint from the day before - see? Be careful holding your index finger too close to the pinch point while adjusting the legs - it hurts- and when you are wearing gloves you will pinch the glove and have to release it before you can continue. Stomp one leg down hard - use that leg as your pivot point - then use the other two legs and the optical plummet to fly the gun onto your occupy point.

    when i level targets, i use the same levelling techniques. When i get to the long bubble levelling stage i centre the bubble on each plane but the circular bubble then goes off center. Is this normal or should i rethink how i level ? Or could it be a callibration issue?

    • @settingoutforconstruction7700
      @settingoutforconstruction7700  5 років тому +1

      Hi Wallzy, it could be several things. One possibility is that when you are rotating the target, you are not rotating it exactly through 90 degrees. Another is that when you are rotating the two footscrews at the same time, you are turning one slightly faster than the other without realising. Make sure you are doing them both at exactly the same rate otherwise you are actually tilting the bubble on the perpendicular axis at the same time but it is not showing up on the bubble. Another common problem is that the feet of your tripod are not stamped well into the ground. This can mean as you are moving around, your weight is causing minor movements of the ground. Another possibility is that the bubble itself is out of adjustment. Here's how to work with it if that is the case. Say you do the process correctly and when you get back to the original starting position the bubble is 2 full divisions out to the right. Bring the bubble back half of that distance, so in this case it will be 1 full division out to the right. Now continue as before, but for every position, instead of centring the bubble, set it 1 full division out to the right. If, when you get back to the starting point the bubble is still 1 division out to the right, that means the target is perfectly centred and perfectly level and is ok to use. Alternatively you can adjust the long bubble using a paperclip to turn the screw. Try all the other things first and if you need the instructions for adjusting the bubble, let me know. Saffron.

      Your speed bubble is out. Go get it calibrated, or do it yoursf. Always go with what your plane bubble says. If you can turn it 360 and anywhere you stop, the bubble is between the two lines...you are level.
      Your speed bubble is just off.

    how to save yourself about 5 minutes of looking at the setup and actually doing it.
    Step 1: Step on one leg first
    2: lock on instrument
    3: Use laser or optical plummet and adjust the 2 legs so that you are over that point.
    You are only rough leveling over the point when initially setting up the legs its a waste of time.

    STEP 1 Mounting TS
    STEP 2 CENTERING & LEVELING
    Levelling :
    Position 1 - make bubble tube parallel to foot screws and turn foot screws aand B inward/outward simunteneously.
    Position 2 - rotate TS though 90degree and use screw C to make bubble in level.
    Position 3 - rotate TS 90degree again parallel to foot screws and use a and B to level bubble.
    Position 4- rotate TS 90degrees and make bubble lelel using foot screw C

    Hello friend, I work as a surveyor in Belarus. Tell a friend which sites in the USA I should apply for to find a job as a surveyor, I worked only in geodetic support for construction along this profile, building houses, schools, kindergartens. Will they take me if I have a Belarusian diploma or do I need to retrain in the USA and where to go to retrain in the USA?

      Put the ts on your legs first...then position with one leg fixed, and the other two loose as a another commenter said.
      Just push your legs in slowly, as not to bend your tribrack plate (jerky motion can bend it)

    • @markmayer5788

      It is a bit high. Not a lot, maybe by 2 or 3 inches. The eyepiece is at her forehead level when she is flatfooted. It should be eye level. Useable for a short term occupation, but it would get tiresome quickly.

    • @firghteningtruth7173
      @firghteningtruth7173 4 роки тому

      Screw that. Id rather have it too low than high. Ive had to set up in mud, where if i moved, my legs would move...set up low and just contorted myself around the legs.
      Settin up too high screws your knees, calves, back, neck...everything up if you are there for too long.

      @@firghteningtruth7173 As I said so long ago - 2 or 3 inches lower would be ideal. Nevertheless this is still the best explanation of instrument setup that I've seen on youtube to date, even with a couple of things to quibble about. Meanwhile, it's always best to check your spelling carefully when composing flaming commentary.

    • @firghteningtruth7173
      @firghteningtruth7173 4 роки тому

      @@markmayer5788 ? Wasnt flaming. Shoot back to back titles and 3 forms across the street and you would be DYING from tippy toein.
      And this is MEHHHHHH. There are a couple much better ones. Perhaps this is the way you are "taught in school" to set up...
      But in real life, everyone would roll their eyes at you and go....REAAAALLLLYYYYY?
      Bro, I shot 7 titles the other day. This is WAYYYY too complex. None of my guys would get this. Its not simple, its not fast. Summarily. Its no good for the field.
      Theres a pretty damn good one i found after this one. Ill try n find it and link it.

    I don't know why you all telling that it's a "good job" and well explained. This is a fantasy position only achieved in perfect conditions, with flat terrain. You don't need to look trough the screw to see the point. You can achieve that by only fixing one leg and moving the other two while looking to aproximately(1-2cm center the station) and then you can center the station accurately with the 3 leveling screws...than you can level aproximately by ajusting the tripod. And finally leveling with the leveling screws and centering once more, by unscrew the center screw....this clip is bullshit, not mathmatics...

    Throw that puppy on them legs before you position em. Just dont friggin drop it. Saves you so much trouble.
    If my eyeman cant set up in < 3min...he aint my eyeman. Hahah.
    I can usually set up well enough to do a title in like 60 seconds.
    If i was throwing control/tying pins at a distance...mayyybe 3 minutes?
    And thats like 7 different repositions/levels.
    And as for the using 2 thumbs at the same time....thats just silly. Make it simple. Use 1 at each position. Get one axis good, hit the other, then check to one of the inital 2 posts you used to level the first one.
    Ezpz. Perhaps if you need EVERYTHING WITHIN A .01 this would be neccessary...but most construction is more than satisfied with .02. Even thats pretty tight.
    Happy surveyin.
