How wide is the laser line that is reflected back to the station? Is it a 1/2 inch beam more or less? I have never heard T.S. operator say how wide the beam is.

for tape there is sagging and hogging which causes difference in measurement.
For total station, refraction of light and curvature of earth surface affects the length measured
