The coast guards are really crazy, in terms of dealing with fear, their physical conditions and on top of that, they face THE mother nature. They're definitely some of the top 1% in shape compared to any branch of the military and paramilitary combined. Huge respect for those. 💪
I think Austen’s fans are all well aware of how strong you are! This looks incredibly challenging mentally and physically and inspiring with the camaraderie and support. Incredible display of self discipline and endurance and how strong our military is! Freaking fire 🎉Much respect
Great video on a group that few people know about. These Rescue Swimmers are unbelievable fit, courageous and under appreciated! Austen is one brave guy to undertake this challenge.
Out of all these videos I've watched that you've made, THIS is the one I wanted to see. Favorite movie as a kid was The Guardian so it's cool to know that our actual service men use a reference from that movie. Also, it shows how hard it truly is when someone who is in as good a shape as you are is still really struggling in some areas. Gives an even greater appreciation for this job. Excellent work from idea, training and video. Keep 'em comin!
Thank you! The Guardian definitely set a high bar for what we imagine Coast Guard rescue swimmers go through, and it’s incredible to showcase just how tough the reality really is. Even with all the training I’ve had, there were definitely moments that pushed me to the edge. Really glad you enjoyed this one - it means a lot to know it resonates like that. I’ll keep working to bring more of these videos
@AustenAlexander You do a fine job, and I enjoy every one of them. This one just hits differently with such an iconic movie being made about it. Shows a little bit of difference from what Hollywood does and the reality of it. Found you a year or two back and love seeing these! Have a lifelong fan here. Can't wait for the next one!
I think anyone who has spent time at TRACEN Petaluma as an A-school student has seen a fit dude with birkenstock sandals and great hair sitting with his head in his hands in a lounge, alone, and if you ask what's wrong he'll say something like "I got a 'no-go' on the 360-mid-air-no-look-one-arm-30-foot-deployment, if I get another one I get recycled bro." The joke aside, this training beats guys up, hard. It takes guts to even sign up for the AST pipeline, and I really appreciate those that go for it, and it just doesn't work out--they still often rock their CG enlistments hard. And those that finish this first step have plenty more to train through, but you know you have the most prepared people you possibly can out there in those no-fail situations.
Haha, you nailed it! The grind at Petaluma is no joke, and anyone who’s been through it knows those "no-go" moments are real. Even the guys who don’t make it through the AST pipeline are still some of the toughest and most dedicated people in the Coast Guard - they go on to do great things in their careers. And for the ones who finish, there’s always more to push through, but that’s what it takes to be ready for those no-fail moments. Huge respect to everyone in that pipeline - it’s a whole different level of commitment.
@ thanks for the reply and for finding ways to lift others up after your own service. The video crushed too. you gave a real effort and were honest about when you were frustrated but didn’t give up or get negative; super cool and real insight for those considering AST. Big fan, GL with the next project!
AST A school is absolutely nuts, I went to ET school in Petaluma and i would wake up hearing them get beat on and then go to sleep hearing them get beat on.
This was awesome! I so, so appreciate you doing a video about Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers! Way to go surviving their training! I think you captured the grind that it is!
I wish there was more insight on the land portion of what’s required and times expectations in water, and what’s the baseline. I’m looking to join so these expectations are really helpful 👍
Thanks so much! It’s been an awesome journey. I definitely miss certain parts of the Navy, especially the camaraderie and sense of purpose. I’ve thought about the Reserves a few times but not recently haha
I was listening for when anyone said 7am, I've missed it. But, I can tell you--they were the first ones up in Petaluma when I was there. I would start running at 0530, they were well into morning workout before that.
This video seems so interesting but I don't like this "Mr.Beast type" of editing, I can't focus on one thing there are cuts at almost every second ... ("Coming up" is really not needed in a video that is not even 20 minutes long, I can't read and listen at the same time can't even comprehend what I see when it cuts to an other scene, my head hurts.) dude tysm for doing this!! I'm active duty CG and we don't get enough appreciation
Literally I go to boot in 2 weeks and we’re not appreciated enough
@@HeyZyfo good luck!
@@uscg_grace whats the best job in the CG? BM?
@@michaelgisla4426 That one's okay I think AST is the best but it really depends on your liking
@@HeyZyfohell yeah, brother good luck. I ship out first of January.
Guys train for months to pass the 'rescue swimmer' course so even though Austen's in pretty good shape AST skills are above and beyond, KUDOS Austen!!

Can't believe how good this turned out!
thank you!
Thank you for working with our Rescue Swimmers they are an amazing bunch, and it is heartwarming to see them get a chance to shine for the public.

As someone who is going with a rescue swimmer contract next month, you have no idea how much I appreciate this video.
Thank you from myself and my fellow Coasties for the great video and representation, Semper P!
Great video on a group that few people know about. These Rescue Swimmers are unbelievable fit, courageous and under appreciated! Austen is one brave guy to undertake this challenge.
I appreciate that! Surprising to learn that there aren't a lot of these videos out there. Thanks for watching!
They deserve far more credit

Pulling For You Austen, You're The Best, I Know That You Can Do It👍💯
Hope to join the coast guard in 2 years to become a rescue swimmer 🙏🙏
Thanks Austen for getting out there with the CG. This wil definetly help with recruiting.
My man SAVING LIVES HERE
I try
Love this video dude! Need to train with the Coast Guard MSRT next.
That’ll be good or even with Taclet
Don't feel bad about how you performed most of those people in that school fail. The last class graduated one rescue swimmer
Phenomenal job to you and kudos to the USCG. Thanks for being out there for us!
I appreciate that!
Loved the movie The Guardian and gained major respect for the Coast Guard even tho I’m Airborne. So others may live 🫡
The music is fire, good pick!

This was awesome man!! Really cool opportunity you had here. Former CG hoist operator and I def miss it.
Great video! Bz…

Wow, rescue swimmer number 1! I hope to join the few one day. I have a swimmer contract and ship after high school graduation.
The legend himself making an appearance. lol. Soml
You should train with MSRT or Taclet next
The things Austen does are reason enough why I’m glad I retired from the military. Awesome video sir!
Thanks, I appreciate it! 🙏

6:40 I love that movie! My dad showed it to me when I was like 8 and it still has me obsessed with the coast guard as a junior in high school
Navy SAR teaches a rear underwater approach for combative survivors. It was always the coolest and most fun to train. Great job Austin, awesome video
Kudos to the Coasties they are the cream of the crop on Search and Rescue Swimmers. I am staying this a US Army Soldier.
"You see any other oceans around here?"
Happy Veteran’s Day Austen!
Thank you for your Naval service and for making these videos!
thank you Krysta!
Best job in the world
Incredible quality as usual from y'all!
Hoorah! Great video, thanks for going through the hassle and show what the AST go through!
Appreciate the love! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for doing this video. It really interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mad props to the Coast Guard
You can do it ❤
Lifeguards are a blessing for the people.
Since the Navy already has Air Rescue units, why do we need USCG to have one? Plus dont the Air Force Pararescue also do water borne rescues?
Good luck Austen
I think this is one of your hardest challenge. SR expect greatness, so if you’re not on your game, you will struggle.
I was actually apart of the boat crew that took these guys underway. Pretty cool day overall.
Thanks for helping!
DC was my choice. BRAVO 167
I was India 162
Outstanding video! Might be the best one to date! (Coastie Bias)
Appreciate that, brother!
Great production on this. So happy did did it
Appreciate that, thanks for watching!
Amazing brother
First thing I notice is just how buff, fit, and attractive your classmates are; and Im dont even swing that way bros.
Awesome stuff
I wish there was more insight on the land portion of what’s required and times expectations in water, and what’s the baseline. I’m looking to join so these expectations are really helpful 👍
When you were filming the the school portion did you visit any of the other C.G. facilities in the area?
You've made a real unique business for yourself, congrats. Do you miss the Navy? Have you thought about doing Reserves?
Thanks so much! It’s been an awesome journey. I definitely miss certain parts of the Navy, especially the camaraderie and sense of purpose. I’ve thought about the Reserves a few times but not recently haha
That looks like an excellent experience
It definitely was!
So how differnent is this from the navy? I would imagine it would be a little easier becuase of you being in the navy
How far out from American shores with the USCG conduct rescue ops? Like do they go into international waters? Or is that the purview of the USN?
Iron Duck
Fun fact this a school has almost an 80% fail rate
Verygood Welldone
Rescue swimmers area different breed
Very nice
Please try Navy SAR School after this one!
Impressive
Hell yeah!
hellll yeaaaa
Its amazing ❤❤❤
I love your videos! 😁
thank you!
Hey Austen, can you do USN Coastal Riverine school next? Or how about some Master at Arms school?
wow that's great amazing a man thank you honey and take care always stay safe okay godbless you all your friends
The dream
Try to do navy Vbss next there aren’t many videos of it and I’m curious to what the training consists of
Good luck. 🍀
Appreciate it! 🙏
There is nothing being in a pool can prepare you for the chaotic surf conditions, especially when its at 9ft @ 6 sec
Try the helo dunker next time
You see any other oceans around here??
Wow w video
thank you!
I should have joined the Coast Guard! That candidate said "we get up at 7am and get after it" hahaha must be nice!

The non AI thumbnail was better. (But I clicked on the Ai 1 because that's what came up)
I am the 13th one here
They say we have to go out but we didn't have to come back
Idk if this is that hard; I mean yes it is but I’ve never seen Austen struggle this bad before lol
