  • The bonnet won’t open, firstly on the main catches (there are 2 one at each side) requiring multiple pulls on the bonnet release before the catches relies. Also the safety catch will not open at all. I show how to easily release the safety catch and repair the fault in an easy step by step process. The vehicle in question is an Audi Q3 but most modern Audi’s will be of an identical or similar design.

    Hey thanks! We were in a field at a music fest this weekend and couldn’t open the bonnet to add oil following a warning light. Tried ringing our garage and struggled to follow his instructions and sometimes you just need to *see* what needs doing! Managed to open the bonnet having watched your vid, found a friendly campervan owner with some WD in his kit and we were sorted. Amazing how seized up these things can get, and incredible how a good blast with WD40 and some attention can sort it out. Bonnet pops like new now. Phew!

      Hi Billy, yeah seems you have a problem. Firstly if you haven’t already get someone to pull on the release handle while you push down and pull up on each corner of the bonnet. Failing that try removing the trim panels around the handle to get to the cable to it give more of a pull, possibly with a pair of pliers. If you still can’t get in if you can put the car on a ramp and see if you can access the catches from underneath inside the engine bay, although I’m not sure how much access there will be. Hope this helps and you get your issue sorted. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

      Does it release on the first catch but not the safety catch under the front of the bonnet?

      @@EverydayWorkshopI’ve got same issue, when I pull the handle it doesn’t open or move the slightest bit

    • @EverydayWorkshop
      @EverydayWorkshop  11 місяців тому

      @@saifhussain446 If the release handle inside the car still has resistance when pulled it maybe just wants pulling a bit further to release the catches. You could try removing the trim were the handle is mounted so that you can then pull directly on the cable, maybe with a pair of pliers. Try getting someone to press down on the bonnet as you try to release.

      Thanks for commenting, but I have to disagree. I remember being taught this as an apprentice.
      If it’s a pivot you oil it unless it has a grease nipple then you grease it. If it slides you grease it. If it's seized you release it with penetrating oil. Then you oil or grease it.
      Hope you enjoyed the video. 😁👍
