- The Queen of Pop's stunning single, Baby Sister, taken from her massively underappreciated album Imagination, was a critical success when it won the 'Outstanding Song Award' at the 16th Annual World Popular Song Festival in Japan. Criminally, it never received an accompanying promotional clip at the time, hopefully this peculiar oversight has at last now been rectified with this video...!

1 thing I'll almost always give LaToya (in the 80's anyway) she had some good background music, she couldnt hold a note to save her life, but she always had good background music
La toya has a nice voice. Its her delivery that really isn't great. I wish she would have taken voice lessons. She needed better technique
I don't think you know what "hold a note" means. LaToya can do that and more.

I have to wonder whether this song refers to some man that Janet actually stole from Latoya (unlikely- Latoya has always been the pretty one), or if it's a collective 'you', i.e. the listeners/fans. Maybe she thinks Janet stole the spotlight from her? I mean, not that it's Latoya's fault, but she never really *had* the love; no one ever gave her a chance, and aside from the stuff Jack Gordon made her do she's generally avoided attention. Incidentally, this video is everything XD
Funny you say that. I wondered if it was the "collective you" as well because LaToya did start singing before Janet. I feel Toya could've gone a long way if it had not been for some of the weeds that choked out her ability to be a success.

@queeneastcoast I once dismissed her myself. Hated the song & video for YOU'RE GONNA GET ROCKED, & believed everything that I read about her being talentless. Having explored her entire music catalogue recently, I find much more to admire than not. She is clearly talented. Beyond reproach? No. She apparently suffered great abuse, but still takes personal responsibility. She has gained much admiration & respect in the last couple of years. I don't understand the desire to tear her apart.

I appreciate this video and I do have a measure of respect for her. But, let’s be honest…LaToya can’t sing or dance. However, she kept trying by releasing album after album and going on tour. If for nothing else, I admire her tenacity, as takes a real woman to keep releasing music that she knows is bull$hit and that no one (except for a few people) will buy.

So in many ways it was over for poor Toy Toy !! She knew it she was 10 years older then Janet so realistically she was too old to be a pop star. How was Latoya supposed to relate & connect with a mid to late teenage female demographic ? So in many ways this song is about Janet’s big break !! Latoya is singing you used to love me ( the public ) before you met my baby sister ( Janet’s control album )

'Queen of Pop' my ass.I lived through the 80's and 90's and the only thing I remember about this one is that she sold out michael to a tabloid rag, and then blamed that on an abusive husband. I certainly dont remember a lyric from a song of hers much less anything else musically... Evertime I see her face at what she has done to it I say a collective 'OUCH'.
