why would you do that it dont work this is what UI got got a Error: [EPERM] Changing permissions on jail dataset paths is not permitted: /mnt/PLEX/iocage/media this is way harder than windows wow fucked
When adding the explicit ACL for the Plex user, consider doing it Read & Write. That will allow you to do things in Plex like adding optimized versions or deleting media directly.
thanks for this... i was actually just going to ask about that since i know on the full versions that run in windows it can create optimized versions. wasn't sure if that was something the plug-in could do. Been trying to find the limitations of the plug-in vs the actual version that runs on bare metal.
10:10 This is where I was getting stuck because nobody would explain why I couldn't access the media file! Thankyou so much for heling me on my Linux Journey!
Hands down one of the most useful online tutorials I've ever watched! Could not have set up Plex without this. Your final words are funny though; "how to set up Plex in just a couple of clicks". A couple of hundred more like it!! Still, you walked us through it in great detail and a perfect pace. Thank you so much! Footnote: A "How to install Syncthing" tutorial soon please!
Thanks for this video. Installed TrueNAS for the first time yesterday, planning on accessing it directly from my Oppo UHD player. No shares found :( Tried every tip from forums, but nothing worked. After giving up for the night i found this video, and today i started step by step following your instructions. 30 minutes later I have a working share on my test setup, showing on my Oppo :D
This was HUGE! I was having trouble loading my library into Emby, but your video showed me that it was a permissions issue. Huge props for showing how to locate the process UID. Modified the ACLs and voila!!. Thank you!
You are a great teacher and very thorough. Thanks for the step by step instructions. Very easy to follow. You didn't miss a thing. Thanks and keep up the great work. Just to add you don't know how many times I try to follow people on any other tutorials and they miss things. So thanks again. Just really had to comment!!
Great video, very instructive and easy to follow. Honestly would of given up trying to use TrueNas as a NAS if it weren't for these instructional videos. Thanks.
This is such a great video. I have used it now about 4 times, due to changing up plex server setups. Follow the video and I guarantee you it will work. Simple steps to follow.
Have now used two of your videos to good advantage. Thank you. One suggestion, since I was watching these as a blueprint for how to update an old FreeNAS and PLEX install. You might add a word or two about what to do if there are are already items in place (e.g. media already in the NAS for PLEX, a PLEX installation (Warden) already in a jail). Sometimes adding new works OK but working around things already present is dicey.
New subscriber from this video. I have just successfully installed and set up TrueNAS on my server build and did a fresh Plex install thanks to your easy to follow tutorials. Thank you! Cheers!
I had trouble seeing the folders and files, went down the permissions rabbit hole. Turns out, you must map each dataset into the jail, even if they are under the main dataset. All good now, but posting in case anyone else has Movies/TVShows/Music in datasets under the main dataset. So I created folders, chown -R plex:PlexUsers and mapped each sub-dataset (Movies, TVShows, Music) and it worked right away - with these instructions. Thanks!
Love the video. I've installed truenas on an old pc i got from work. Installed plex and almost got my 700GB or so of movies on it. The few 4k movies will play though. Making this old i5 quad core jump up to 97 percent usage at times. Chills around 65-70 it looks like. I'm super pumped. Just need to sort through the tv shows that are showing up individually though.
Jesus Plex folks, so many non intuitive steps here! Very well explained I don't think I would have ever figured some of those mounting and permission steps out on my own. Many thanks!
I have been stuck on the step at 7:42 for two hours and I am slowly going crazy trying to figure out why. Every time Install the plex plugin I get thrown and error that tells me the installation failed and I should delete the jail that was created. I do, and repeat the process with the same result. The installation always fails at the half way mark while installing the ffmpeg library. I am trying to find help but no one seems to have my issue, which means I must have screwed something but I can't figure out what. Edit: For posterity my fix was to reinstall with UEFI instead of BIOS installation
Hello! What is the name of your pool? Are you also giving your plugin a name? Basic questions I know but just trying to find out where it's going wrong
@@EverythingSmartHome Hi there, thanks for replying. I believe I just gave the pool the default name you suggested. At this point my only ideas for why I'm having this issue are that 1) I have too little RAM at only 4gb (although I've previously run PLEX with FreeNAS on this system I built a couple years ago without running into issues of it being completely broken) or 2) the installation media was faulty since I only used a 2gb stick to install TrueNAS. I am going to grab a larger stick of RAM and see if that fixes it, and if it doesn't I'll just reinstall. Barring those two things I have no ideas.
Your RAM is very low for TrueNAS but it shouldn't affect the plugin installed, and either would the install media since they are pulled from the internet, they aren't on the disk. Does your pool now have a dataset called iocage?
@@EverythingSmartHome I didn't create a dataset called iocage, but whenever the faulty Plex jail gets created after a botched install the command "iocage clean -a" in the shell is the only thing I can apply to get the jail to delete. What is iocage exactly?
the best one! Thanks a lot, but it would be also great to notice that datasets are not equal folders. As a novice I didn't know that and spent 4 days trying to make Plex see content inside of datasets
Amazing chanel and video !!! I'm from Latin America (Argentina), I always had issues with Plex and the subtitles ... So I buy a regular android tv for the smart tv, connected to freenas (to the shared folders) directly and use Kodi to watch movies ... also I don't use the CPU processing of the NAS and I can use the android tv also for other stuff like games, youtube, emulators, and more.
When I try to install Plex it says package failed to install connection reset by peer after a long wait. Not sure whats going on. EDIT: After several weeks of troubleshooting, I found a fix in a random forum. When installing the plugin, click advanced, then unselect DHCP VNET and NAT and manually enter an IP. Then it will install Then I followed the rest of the vid. Awesome tutorial you earned yourself a sub :)
This was very helpful! Saved me a lot of time fiddling with settings and just get working. Also your background music choice was really nice. It's a small thing, but so many UA-cam vids are so annoying with there music. yours had perfect volume and did not distract from the content.
Thank you!!! Better video that the TrueNAS own video on this. I tried their video first but it didnt work they failed to show you the the Media folder fix.
So you can have a area with content to share with larger group. Maybe some movies... But then a different set that family members only for things like photos and family videos?
