Agreed, a good player can usually use a bard extremely effectively. A former DM of mine called them (as loathe as I am to use an MMO term) "the off-rogue/sorcerer/fighter." Go one way and the Bard will suck, keep a nice balance, pray for a good party and point-buy and the Bard will succeed. I played one up till level 11 when I retired him for a Beguiler.
Not all bards suck, depends on the player. If the player doesn't know how to play, s/he'll suck no matter what class. It just so happens that bard is a really hard class to play, since its role is mostly just supportive. Jack of all trades, master of none.
I actually have had a character sneak attack himself. It was a doppelganger assassin. I rolled a natural one on my death attack, and the DM made me roll a fortitude save as a joke. I fucking died. That bastard.
I love this movie... only one problem.. last I played (V3.5) it is disobeying your god that strips a paladin of his/her power or a change of alignment, NOT disobeying the religious leader if said leader is doing evil :p

I had an elf bard one time... He reached 19th level and he did not die at the end of the campaign...the most awesome character I ever played...that IS a perfect role-playing class. That's all.
Other two best parts, 8:33 minus 50XP (he seriously deserved that though!). 9:44 "That's why I kill so many NPCs, you never know" LOL. I know a party member of mine that needs that excuse!
@spiffor i'm an italian d&d player .When we play we use PF , but I think that there aren't differences between PF and hitpoints , I think that this is a mistake (sorry for the bad english)

The former characters are Undead, as opposed to dead. Mort Kemmnon is a necromancer, so he brought them into undeath, kind of like resurrecting them.
When I first watched this with friends, I almost had to pause the movie at the line "Why not? It's prone!" My favorite line of the movie.
