- We infiltrate the Covenant holy city of High Charity, and set off after the Prophet of Truth in this tenth mission of the Halo 2 Campaign. As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, leave a comment below.
Only the strongest will survive this mission.
Then there goes that helioskrill armour was after.......and that legend achievment........
MARLOOGIE MASTER !!! You can do it, man. You just have to play carefully. It took me almost 3 hours, but I did it.
Lead me to heaven when we die
No not even that
Only the strongest will say, i'm fucked
Legendary on this level = The Ninja Gaiden of Halo
I beat it 7 times
Halo 2 is harder than ninja gaiden
@@SnowyGingerAle did you even play ninja gaiden? cuz halo 2 is pretty forgiving in comparison to that game.
@@SnowyGingerAle haha no
@@naoaquieopatrickpatrick8565 Yeah I played Ninja Gaiden to my NES classic I got 2 years back.
I'm pretty sure that Halo 2 on Legendary is equal if not harder than Ninja Gaiden. Halo 2 on Legendary with the mythic and iron skull on is near impossible for me.
Maybe that's just taste tho.
Smaken är som baken.
Master Chief: Killed a fleet of covenant but couldn't order the marines to follow him, gj
There just dumb😛
romand271 they thought he’d be taller so they were frustrated
romand271 now if they were ODSTS oh man they’d be honored. ODSTs respect people. I’m not biased... no that’s not a ODST profile pic...
The comment is a year old and this is probably entirely pointless, but, the ODSTs were actually very hostile to those not within their ranks, oft acting superior due to their elite status and perhaps even condescending to them
When Spartan IIs began to arrive on the field of battle with armor that allows them to survive a drop from orbit and unreasonable combat efficiency, the ODSTs were quite displeased by this displacement of superiority
The most straightforward way to discover this is to read the Fall of Reach and the book detailing the events of Combat Evolved, which I’ve forgotten the name of at the moment
You learn of the nature of the ODSTs from none other than the Chief’s perspective; you also learn of what those outside the Spartan program, as well as a few ODSTs themselves think of Spartans
Their views are uncharitable, to say the least
Chris Laezur also the ODST’s in the book “the flood” hate the chief, and don’t treat him with respect.
37:45 "Elite my ass, that's the best you could do?"
fraughtmonster8 that's my favorite line
Length of this level
Expected - 1 hour 1/2
Reality - Over 3 hours trying to keep your damn marines alive
Also Reality - 7 hours trying to make sure your marines are not falling behind or falling off a ledge
Also reality - 168 hours trying not to die in the opening section
@@ThunderStruck115that first room is a total nightmare on legendary, right from the start it’s easy to be killed immediately in the first 2-3 seconds as the mission begins. It’s really that brutal and also includes the entire mission, I can definitely see why it’s considered by many to be the hardest mission on legendary in all of the Halo games.
Actually, Bungie did a fantastic job of balancing the Snipers in Halo 3. The key was making them much easier to see, as well as having a much slower reaction time when they spotted you.
It took me 2 damn hours to finish this mission on legendary... The most painfull experience of my life but feeling when you actually finish it is amazing
It took me a couple of days...
It took me like 5 hrs I had to take a break I came to the part with the gravity lifts (that go forward) and took a break
I took me 1 hour to clear the first 6 waves alone
The brutes always make the most hilarious sounds when they die or get angry xD
Same with the elites 😂
57:50 for the greatest moment in FPS history
Kuya117 hell yeah
This is Spartan 117 Master Chief himself one and only this is easy all the Halos on legendary are easy
@@legendaryhunters2164 ...
I came here just for that.
Ah, yes! The Breaking Benjamin room!
Lol almost everyone's first time was about 3 times the length of this video.
And on Heroic difficulty
i tried on legendary and got stuck on the first part for a very long time
Yep! My Legendary record is 3 hours and 20-something minutes.
It’s been 4 hours and I just got to past the two hunters
@@jballs5434 a little tip:don't rush... I like to speedrun , I can beat halo 3 in an hour and a half on legendary and I like to beat missions fast, but this is just so hard that I killed everything and my record is about an hour and 15 mins
i like how breaking benjamin made a song for halo, and they put in the game, its an epic song and really does fit the end of this mission
And they didn't take a penny for this song. They did it for free.
@@thetrickster9885 they've made tons off it since then tho. Sports teams use it. The bruins literally used to open every game with it
This is my favorite mission in the game. I really really wish they had included human weaponary in it, perhaps at the part where you free the Marines. This mission is the longest and you face every type of covenant enemy. It begs to have every weapon type
Tobuscus Hopkins Actually, that's the cool thing about it. The Chief gets there without any kind of weapon nor grenades. He still manages to turn the enemies own weapons against them, and shoot his way through the Covenant holy city, where pretty much everything wants to kill him.
The prison
Mine is uprising and great journey
Plot wise there'd be no logical reason to have human ammo lying around because it violates the Elite's cultural code. Having the flood bring human weapons with them in the 2nd to last mission was perfectly logical though.
@@Darth_Vader_Explains it wouldn't make sense for elites, but it would for the brutes. Remember the arsenal room brutes had in Uprising? It had a lot of human weapons
Saving all the marines till the end is one of the most fulfilling achievements of this game.
Absolutely
Incredible that you kept the marines alive
Trump 4Prez agreed. Masterful.
I kept 3 Marines alive to the point where you get outside for the first time and then they stopped following me so I tried to make them follow me but I just gave up and went alone
@@fangee704 Same for me. I kept 5 of them alive but eventually one by one they would just stop following me and by the time I got to the final part of the mission I had only one left.
@@HafeezUrRehman916 Once i saved five of them i think, or it was four, i can't remember well.
I was able to save 5, they're a great help on legendary once outfitted with beam rifles.
thank you so much for making this series man, you helped me get through this impossible level. your support to this community shall never be forgotten.
Cheers!
@@Hokiebird428 are you still alive and kicking covenant ass Hokie?
In the starting room, I didn't even no you could hop onto the balcany on both sides, thank so much for showing that.
I don't think I've ever seen a video game walkthrough done better. You've also reinvigorated my interest in Halo! I always just go guns blazing, but playing strategically looks like much more fun.
Math Helper - It really is. It’s why I wanted to make a walkthrough for it in the first place, but also why I enjoy Halo for vastly different reasons than most other people.
10:54 "Shut up, you're annoying." LOL
Bit rude
@@TheJayson8899 That brute was being even more rude by interrupting Hokiebird's commentary on what to do in this part of the mission. And annoying might I add.
@@HafeezUrRehman916 That can be pretty subjective though. While some may find it funny, others won't. I certainly didn't think that thirty six different people would thumb it up when I posted that comment six years ago.
Thanks for these guides! Currently doing my first H2 Legendary run for the game's 20th anniversary this year, your videos and commentary have helped me out immensely.
Rewatching this six years later. Thank you for making this guide Hokie, each one of them are so nostalgic and remind me of simpler times. Gives me something to look back and smile on from when I was a kid
55:19 wow that grunt's scream though.
oh my XD
Fnaf Catznkittenz Just relistened to it Lol
Broey lol
Broey waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa iiiiaaaaah
Never knew about the jumping on the pedestal or how to jump up on the upper level. You sir really are a legend thanks for the well made and detailed walk through.
I swear it feels like they made the start of this mission harder in MCC
The AI has a faster reaction time and is more aggressive in MCC in my opinion, all the enemies here look sluggish.
@@MISTAKEWASMADE4live I'm fairly sure the increased enemy aggression in MCC is a result of the higher frame rate, which I'm also sure is due to the MCC using the Vista port as a base. Halo 2 Vista, in my opinion isn't nearly as broken as some console purists want us to think, but it still has its fair share of issues, many of which were inhereted from the Xbox version. At least Hired Gun did a better job than Gearbox at keeping the visuals intact.
Im-impossible... Having Marines survive until the end of Gravemind, on Legendary no less. This is the ultimate proof of how good your guides are. Even after limping through Halo 2 on Legendary, I still learned so much from your guides.
Gravemind is honestly an amazing level. It has a good balance of fun and challenge. Well, after the council room at least. Once you're out of there, the momentum doesn't stop.
Anyone else here the demented child grave mind voice at the first cutscene? If you listen closely enough you can here it in the background under the dark dialogue.
because of that mission in halo 2 i started to listen to braking benjamin, hell yah
Daniel Blaj Hokies I am a legend montage is what got me into disturbed, breaking Benjamin and saliva
It's absolutely mesmerizing watching you breeze through levels which took me weeks to beat on Legendary. I've started playing Halo 2 again on PC, your videos are really helping.
I love the copious amounts of ammo of the best covenant weapons in this level. Start out with just a needler and end up with a sword and fuel rod cannon, not to mention 4 beam rifle marines.
Also i had no idea of that brute rifle hunter stun tech! I would've never thought to use them
Sorry I'm a little late here, but the music is actually called "The Great Schism". "Blow Me Away" has lyrics, but "The Great Schism" is the instrumental version.
Hey guys, the strategy that I used for the council chamber, and for the first third of the mission is so reliable, that my first death wasn't until 24:38, where I caught a Plasma Grenade with my face. Also, a note about the prison break at 29:30: there will be 3 groups of enemies, but where they spawn will be random. In my case, it was 1 on the middle level, and 2 on the lower level. Worst case scenario is 2 on the middle level, 1 on the upper level. Then you're fucked.
Dude your such a tactical player 😂 I had so much fun but trouble with this mission years ago. Still holds up to this day. Good shit.
This is my favorite mission in the whole game...
That said, I never even made it this far on Legendary and I wouldn't dare try it lol.
I'm currently playing on legendary
It's brutal
It’s awful, one of the most punishing and aggravating levels in FPS history. It’s already long and difficult on normal mode but Legendary turns it from a pain in the ass to an insurmountable monstrosity
This mission alone took me 5 hours to beat on legendary. Halo 2 took me roughly 3 months to complete. Hands down the toughest challenge I’ve pushed myself through but at least I can say I beat it with pride 😅
It sucks on Legendary.
Breaking Benjamin’s Blow Me Away is one of their best songs for a badass ending to a mission.
OG right here
I was blazing through the campaign on legendary just like the old days before I got to this god forsaken level lol. I couldnt get past the beginning, thanks for the tips!
Man, you really mastered Halo. Had all the marines until the end. Bravo. I was only able to beat this level on Solo Heroic using simliar techniques.
Rare Ghost he edited it on one of the comments find the one that said no deaths are impossible on Halo 2 that comment the replies under that comment the person commented that was Jedi Spartan
Rare Ghost this is Spartan 117 Master Chief himself one and only I have never died on legendary over 5 years straight
Being able to keep the marines alive is amazing. Best player I have ever seen.
Ah yes, i remember being 13-14 watching your guides because halo 2 was so unforgiving, hope you’re doing great and thanks for the memories
Hey hokie I’ve been watching you since the beginning and coming back to this video reminds me of my childhood. This mission will always be the hardest in my opinion. This feeling of nostalgia is unexplainable. These videos will be part of my childhood
I am currently on this mission right now and will be playing it for the first time on legendary tomorrow
@@aakashb3632 make sure to get some good sleep lol
@@carlosguayara6907 yeah I got good sleep and today is the day I will be playing this awful mission🤣🤣🤣
I will be back on this comment when I complete gravemind

Favorite mission of all time! Loved this mission so much just because there were brutes, elites and marines going at it. A lot of the stuff you did, I also do so keep up the good work!
Worst spawn in ever.
Thanks for your help Hokie! Learnt a lot about this game and the strategy needed to succeed

"Swing, Battah Battah Battah, Swing!"
This comment is over 3 years i believe. But it's funny 😂
This mission is absolutely brutal on legendary
Yep, definitely the beginning.
The Gravemind in Halo 2 Anniversary looks freaking amazing and terrifying! It makes this one in the original look like a joke...
The one in this is a weird mess where as Anniversary looks like something out of a horror movie....
I dunno, I like the original better.
i like the original more, seems scarier to me, the new one seems its trying too hard to be scary, but the original is ominous
I prefer the original one that looks the the plant from little shop of horror. FEED ME SEYMOUR!
Overall I don't appreciate the large subjective liberties they took with the design of remastered stuff. They took stained old fourunner metal, and made it pristine stainless steel, for what reason? They completely changed the classic, barely changed in the series sound design to theirs, why?
@@Jaker788 the graveminds design in h2 anniversary is based on the original concept art. It's what they originally wanted him to look like.
The gravemind dialogue is so good!! Halo 2 is my favorite halo game and game in general
This was a great strategy. I never knew about the pedestal that could get to the upper ledge. I fought this whole area on legendary on the floor. It took me about 50 deaths to get it right.
wow, this is the level I quit my legendary run because it was just too hard (as a kid) Turns out it's considered the hardest level in the whole franchise
homie been playing through all the games on legendary and ur videos you have no idea how much theyve helped
10:55 Didn't know Brutes existed in Staten Island. He picked up quite the accent before having a stint inside High Charity. Lol.
Great walkthrough, by the way, Hokie!
I remember completing this mission on legendary for the first time. It was...
painful
Cortana: "Here Chief, jump in!"
Chief: *Immediately dies after jumping in because the brutes notice him*
Thanks! Couldn't remember how to do the Beginning part from years ago, this was a great help.
Doing it all on the master chief collection.
One thing I keep doing is accidentally restarting the level when I want to restart from the last checkpoint!! Grrr
Thank you so much for this guide. This mission has been hell without a good guide.
I enjoy your methodical, calculating nature.
The silver Elites are called Ultras not Spec Ops. Spec Ops are the black ones.
Thank god, I'm not the only one who realised this.
White are ultras. Grey/silver are stealth. Black/purple are spec ops.
GraphiteBlimp The Stealth ones are actually brown.
Jake Yatta Yeah they're brown, aren't there grey/silver ones as well? Regardless, ultras are white and spec ops are black.
I THOUGHT SPEC OPS WERE THE INVISIBLE ELITIES
"Boo!" "AAAAH!"

what if u have duel needlers and the beam rifle secondary hokie? would u survive then
Which part?
Umm its at 27:02 where ur talking about bringing the duel needles over the beam rifle
You don't want to give up the Carbine.
Abe Ridha
Not annoying me. I applaud anyone that thinks critically about my videos. I'll try it in a bit and let you know how it goes.
thanks boss man. i might do a test also and compare my results.
Is it just me or the reload sound of dual needlers is just so satisfying 5:17
cant wait for halo 2 anniversary
***** although its going to be on Xbox one i want it to be on tablet
and it includes the other 3 halos
Daniel Ray what do you mean
Harold Reyes master chief edition is coming in oct and it includes halo 1, 2, 3 and 4 for xbox one
Daniel Ray woah
I've been going through the anniversary edition and these have been super helpful! Awesome job!
This game is such an unfair pain in the ass on legendary. Halo CE got the difficulty right imo.
Halo CE also made every weapon usable in someway.
They made the pistol and shotgun utterly useless in Halo 2.
I wouldn't say CE is perfect, there's issues there too
@@thedoctor3547 like rocket launcher flood lol
me and my little brother are currently playing this level on legendary right now, so thank you.
Thanks! I did the council chamber on heroic without knowing you can jump up on the ledge from those columns. I had to wait to pick up that carbine with a small amount of ammunition, hid in the dark near Cortana's pedestal and then sniped off the brutes. It took me like 15 deaths to get through that scene.
Thank you so much! this got me through Gravemind, it took around 5 hours. but its worth it cause I now have infinite bragging rights
FOUR HOURS i spent on that first part. Thank you for your help. It wasn't easy either way haha
The best gameplay I've ever seen. I think that you confound SpecOps with Ultras elites. Spec Ops are dark blue (those who accompany the arbiter in his mission) and Ultra are (White/Silver).
Didn’t even have to see the mission name. The length alone told me all I needed to know.
this was always my favorite mission as a kid
Dude these tips are very useful thanks
MynameisGRADE I am very happy to hear that!
thank you hokie. I completed halo 1 on legendary, now im on halo 2. i almost quit with the jackal snipers but this first room took the cake, i tried it at least 30 times before finally looking up a tutorial, so thanks i passed it :p
Didn't think Legendary no deaths was possible on Halo 2, especially Gravemind, great work
Jedi Spartan Lol, this isn’t even close to no-deaths. I’m just good at editing.
@@Hokiebird428 ok, how long does it take for you to find out what strategies work best for legendary. Also your walkthroughs of the various Halo games have helped me with lots outside of how to be good at Legendary such as gameplay details (eg: where some weapons are and differences between difficulties)
Jedi Spartan - It can often take me several years of off-and-on trying new things and gradually increasing the difficulty to come up with effective strategies in a game like Halo 2. Other simpler games can often take more like a few months.
Lol 30 and counting, the first room
Can you show us the deaths
I died like 7 times in a row on this mission before Cortana even finished her first sentence lol
"ThE FaStEr YoU cAn KiLL ThOsE bRuTeS tHe BeTtEr"
So, in the starting cutscene, it looks like there are 4 extra brutes behind the chief as he spawns, but they just disappear when the game starts. This is probably the only time where I'm glad continuity broke.
:( they changed the epic music part on the anniversary edition to some shit tune
Cullen Simmons yeah unfortunately, due to licensing issues. I hope the PC version will have the ability to mod files so this badass song is kept when going to remastered mode.
Just switch it to normal grapics
@@iamwhatieat9639 but you can actually play the song if you switch to classic Mode. They would have had to license that so it seems like they just wanted to use a new song or something for the Remake version
@@HugoStiglitz88 they wanted to reuse blow me away on Aniversary edition aswell, but for some reason Breaking Benjamin refused to let them use it.
That's why I'm playing this on the original xbox like it should be
given the sheer amount of deaths that i have seen master chief experience, i am wholly convinced his _true_ identity is bill murray
3:52 I wonder who noticed the guy in his underpants standing next to the horde of grunts? :P
yeah i did noticed to
***** It's a popular halo 2 easter egg.

“It’s safe really just step in.” (Jackal Sniper waiting for you at the bottom). Thanks Cortana
these guides really help me thanks hokie i love your videos
48:01 this part of the level always got to me. The sad music playing as those helpless scared grunts are getting massacred by those brutes. I felt sorry for them.
I just beat this mission on legendary without watching any guide! Proud of myself!
5:55 My favorite Tartarus quote
The VA for the prophet of truth did a phenomenal job here.
What a nightmare of an intro lol gotta be ready. I got trapped in a bad spawn on wave 5 but got through it. Thank you 😎 been watching since halo 1. Will watch Halo 3 and 4 too if you have it 😂 I’ve done this all before but it’s nice to have a refresher and know what guns to use. Thank you 😎
dude ur really good and u really know what ur doing gj man keep uploading
Another trick to get through the first part of this is, I got caught getting ammo right by one of the doors the final wave was coming out of, and jumped over the grunts heads into the corridor behind them. The doors close fast, and you can go up to them, fire a burst of needles and back off without taking too much damage. Worked a treat.
Just started this level on MCC for PC for the first time on legendary and the memes were no joke on the bs you're gonna encounter, especially that beginning lmao.
To anyone that doesn't know this trick: You can hit your triggers faster on most weapons in halo 2 and you basically become invincible because your guns will pump out bullets amazingly fast. Not even kidding. Moving weapons from the area you're at to the next one is also great for getting through hard parts of the game.
At 34:34 I had accidentally dropped my controller this muting the video, and then when I unmuted it the brute gave me a damn heart attack at at 34:41
31:14, I'm sorry, I just lost it, when he said swing batter batter😂😂😂
I always loved the song that started playing at around 48:00. Its also pretty sick that you keep your marines alive for so long, I never realized how useful they were until I started doing that while replaying this game on legendary
I think in terms of the enemies falling from the grav lift in the prison section, this might be because the games coding probably gets confused when detecting if the player or npcs are going up or down. So when the game focuses on you and your marine buddy’s going up and down the lifts on the lower levels, the game probably glitches out and stops the slow decent effect from going down a lifts, hence why we see brutes and grunts falling with their weapons.
All my marines had carbines. Surprisingly, they held their own as well as when I tried your method to arm them with beam rifles.
32:30 - 32:50
I played the game like a million times & i never came across that helpful glitch.
Maybe Cortana compromised the lift so the good guys can Reach the top without more resistance
This level is a lot easier than I thought it was when I played it. Because most of the time you need to kill all enemies in a room to get a checkpoint here whereas I was going full two betrayals style running past all the enemies lol. Could do with less enemy spam at the end tho. Hunters were annoying until I figured the fuel rod gun and beam rifle killed them easily.
Playing this on heroic rn... Such a well designed level.
Tell me your joking please
This level and quarantine zone are two of the worst designed levels in the entirety of Halo
Thanks for the excellent quality videos.
Gravemind and Regret on Legendary are just
for clarification the brutes up top at the beginning spawn during wave 4 after you kill 4 enemies, brutes or grunts, ignoring the brute with the brute shot. You kill him and 4 enemies and they will activate.
Ah, I never could figure out if it was how many I had to kill, how many were still alive, or if it was on a timer. Thanks for the info.
no problem. I realized this because I'm a little slow in killing things cause of my poor reaction time, (which hurts by preventing me from hitting brutes with grenades charging me going beserk........ that pain of mission 11 especially trying to redo the mission after a crash O_O). The trick is the spawns are activated but very delayed. So basically you wait like 15 seconds or so. Also it's amazing you are still active on this video. It's nice to use the good old fashioned stuff to finish the game. Thanks for replying too.
Btw with tartarus on the final mission I had trouble killing off the support so eventually when I got him low I just went up the warp to the top level, camo'd and went down behind a wall, wait for camo to recharge, wait for johnson to shoot him (Just hit him already damn it!) shoot him, walk to the other side of the wall, camo and go to the top floor, rinse and repeat. Worked for me. I could have beaten him easily cause he got stuck on the elevator on the bottom level but the beam rifle couldn't hit so I had to hit him with three grenades to push him in XD.
Those were neat tips and tricks on this level too.
12:37 Me when I step on a LEGO piece.
Same bro XD
