Singing Bowl Meditation: bowls played with violin bows

- This is a short, simple sound meditation made with different types of singing bowls being played by Jurek and Pam using violin bows.
Please do not listen to this video while driving or operating machinery - thank you
Take a few minutes from a busy day to slow down and relax and refresh
Sit comfortably and if you prefer close your eyes
Notice how your body is and if you need to readjust your sitting position gently do so
Listen to the sounds around you, notice perhaps the birdsong or maybe the low hum of an appliance, acknowledge it, not engaging in thoughts around that sounds just noticing that they are around you
Returning your focus to your face, relax your face, letting your jaw slacken a little
Are your shoulders comfortable?
Get comfortable and relaxNow place your focus on your body breathing - not changing the breath, notice the familiar rise and fall of your body, perhaps your breath lengthening a little as you relax, your body riseing and falling, rising and fallingNow begin to play the track - focussing on the sounds of the bowls
Much love and blessings - Pam and Jurek

Playing these bowls could cause the left and right sides of the brain to synchronize together, creating a peace and calm during meditation. it creates a kind of energy that may center the frequencies of the body, mind, and soul. Thank you

I`ve never seen a singing bowl played with a violin bow. Wonderful. Thank you!
It takes practice and sometimes I go too fast or at the wrong angle an get a 'squeal or scraping sound' but I do love the sounds, especially on the Mani bowls, they have such beautiful tones. I've tried with a bigger cello bow before but it feels a bit clumsy for me so use a student violin bow, need to put plenty of roisin on first and then feel for the 'right resistance' as I draw the bow backwards on the rim of the bowl. I love the pulsing sound on some of the bowls as they are played.
Thank you for listening, your great feedback and actually taking the time to comment. Best wishes - Pam
@@sound-and-silence Yes it`s pretty similar to making handpans; try new things and learn from mistakes. Eventually you end up with a sound that suits your heart. Please keep on experimenting and creating wonderful vibrations!
This is so wonderful! Magical really! Can you tell me how long your bow is? And do you use rosin on it?🙏🏻
Thank you 🙏 we’re pleased you enjoyed listening.
I was first shown this way of playing about 12 years ago and there are certain types of bowl that sound absolutely beautiful when bowed. We usually have a short section of our group sound meditations where we both bow or combine bowing with other sounds and I love your description as magical really as that’s how it feels.
Jurek prefers a 27” violin bow and I prefer a 24” student bow and yes we use Rosin on the strings, I always used to use the most basic and cheapest but then bought a box for about £30 and it worked really well.
Happy playing - best wishes - Pam and Jurek
This is simply stunning. I hope you guys will do more of these videos. Can I ask what bowls you're using here? I suspect the extra thick walls are adding extra vibratory richness. Mine certainly don't sound this good.
Hi Eric, Thank you for you kind comment, we will make a note to do more of these videos. The bowls uses are antique mani singing bowls also know as elephant foot singing bowl,
antique himalayan singing bowls and Japaniese temple bells. We choose bowls which produce the best sound. Best wishes Jurek and Pam
@@sound-and-silence It's clear you know how to pick them. Those bowls give incredible ring so to speak.
I really appreciate your share. Thank you
How much bowl sound
Hi Jessa thank you for listening to the video - I don't understand what you are asking? what would you like to know. Best wishes - Pam
Can you recommend a site where can I purchase one of theese bowls ?
We buy our bowls mainly from eBay sellers who put sound clips for each one. We have collected our instruments over a long time.
If you are in the Uk I know Craig Shankster of Silence into sound sells and teaches how to play some great bowls.
Best wishes
What are the best type of violin bows to use
My favourite is a student 3/4 size bow - I prefer this slightly smaller bow, Jurek uses a full size bow. We have tried cello bows, they worked well but I found them a little too long and sometimes would accidentally tap other bowls. The Roisin is important - I recently spent a bit more money on a new block of Roisin and it gives the strings more resistance when pulled back over the bowls. Hope this helps - best wishes - Pam
Five best minutes of my hour

Fantastic
Thank you Ramsey - this is the result of a lazy Sunday morning at home. We just began playing and as always love the way the sound grows. Jurek just wanted to capture the light shining on the top of the bowls on the sunshine 😊 we really like this short video. Thank you for listening and commenting - happy Wednesday to you - Pam
Thank you Ramsey, I was planning to make a longer video but this short clip stood out by itself so here it is. Best wishes Jurek
