What captivates me in this scene which you do not get in the opera itself is Alfredo singing directly to Violetta in plain sight. I also appreciate the fact that these two are already lovers with a romantic past, where as this moment means everything! Love this movie.
Ever since I saw this movie I have compared it with new Traviata presentations, but I always come back to his rendition. He sounds so ... in love.... as I think this piece should sound.
The singing in this scene was dubbed! In other news, some movies portray events which are physically impossible. OK. @2:08 her radiance at his unexpected support is one my favorite romantic moments in film. Her expression is wonderful.
It is not unexpected. They planned it this way in order to introduce his singing before the Prince’s Arcas ever got a chance to open his mouth! Note Arcas’s furious reaction.
I love the 'joya' expressions the soprano and tenor have for each other--they are obviously an item off stage in the film. they support each other's artistic presense with their love--I like that.
I always have to watch when i miss mother, because i am in the United States right know and i miss hearing her sing as i did went i lived at home. Well anyways, i know its hard to find, mostly because my mom as not recorded anything in a long time. She does mainly concerts and operas these days. She worked in Argentina for a while and she teaching in at the music school in Brussels.
I am so happy.. by what you said and ill pass it on to my mother.. Thank you so much. She is know a teacher at the Brussels Music Conservatory. Maybe you could take a course there with her in the Summer. Hint!
I like how everyone is so surprised that this was dubbed... Most movies where any firm of singing is involved are going to be dubbed. Especially with movies featuring pieces from an opera. Not many actors/actresses can sing, not well enough at least.
It was dubbed. Kind of obvious in how she was moving her mouth, but also if you look on imdb.com it gives singing credits to the people who sang for these actors.
@IshyIMB017 Well it's in a movie so who knows what the director had in mind a when it was being sung, and I'm sure it was what she wanted, but in most opera houses this wouldn't fly. Not because of the pitch, but she's pretty sloppy with her diction and how she releases her notes, but it's really impressive that she could sing that high, the tenor too. It's usually high already for a tenor, and he takes it up even more.
Yeah....I also can sing a high C and higher with opening my mouth only that wide...NOT. :D It's pretty obvious that she didn't sing herself, but her acting is nice. ^_^
I sign but there is nothing to compare too. My mom has the real voice not me.. i tried doing some musicals in my past but i could never achieve anything like that. i got the singing DNA, but without practice its useless

this made me to stared listening and liking opera.......so long ago..
Ever since I saw this movie I have compared it with new Traviata presentations, but I always come back to his rendition.

You are so right! He is in love.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND SIMPLE MOVIE EVER!!!
The singing in this scene was dubbed!
In other news, some movies portray events which are physically impossible.
OK.

Inspirador y emotivo.
I love the 'joya' expressions the soprano and tenor have for each other--they are obviously an item off stage in the film. they support each other's artistic presense with their love--I like that.
The most emotional part of the movie.
I always have to watch when i miss mother, because i am in the United States right know and i miss hearing her sing as i did went i lived at home. thanks for posting this part off this wonderful movie!
Beautiful soprano (and tenor)!
I agree...one of the best ever........
i love this movie.
I am so happy.. by what you said and ill pass it on to my mother.. Thank you so much. She is know a teacher at the Brussels Music Conservatory. Maybe you could take a course there with her in the Summer. Hint!

Magnifico!!!!

Onde consigo achar esse filme completo?
yes i am daughter of Daniel Blumenthal the pianist and Dinah Bryant the opera singer.
So where can folks find the DVD of this movie? Are the actors portraying the singers (tenor and soprano) actually singing or is it dubbed?
masteroftheeouse It's dubbed.
the surprise is that the dubbing of the soprano is not in sinc--but her joy is culpable and the technical glib forgivable.
@IshyIMB017 Yes it was. A second up if I'm not mistaken.
Quién es la soprano y el tenor?
@IshyIMB017 Well it's in a movie so who knows what the director had in mind a when it was being sung, and I'm sure it was what she wanted, but in most opera houses this wouldn't fly. Not because of the pitch, but she's pretty sloppy with her diction and how she releases her notes, but it's really impressive that she could sing that high, the tenor too. es un playback. me recuerdo haber visto que ella no canta en la pellicula, pero pienso que el hermano si. el film es "Le Maître de Musique" - The music Teacher (Belgica)
Ninguno de los protagonistas cantan.
Was this played at a higher pitch?
Canta en directo o es playback.? No me fio del cine. Y de que filme se trata?
Es playback ... El film es el maestro de música.
Yeah....I also can sing a high C and higher with opening my mouth only that wide...NOT. :D
It's pretty obvious that she didn't sing herself, but her acting is nice. ^_^
How do you like my mother singing???
My mom Is the one singing not the actress.
Dinah Bryant.
Your mother is amazing! Brava!
Exquisite singing!
@Loismustdie26 Yeah, I noticed she doesn't sing it bad at all, but I think those high notes sound a bit annoying.
I sign but there is nothing to compare too. My mom has the real voice not me.. i tried doing some musicals in my past but i could never achieve anything like that. i got the singing DNA, but without practice its useless
No i am not... never was permited to learn what i wanted which was the sax or the electric violin. So i told them i will no longer play if so.
My mother Dinah Bryant Look her up on googel
*form
They're not singing. Those mouth positions would not permit those sounds to come out :).
this movy is not so much about lyric singing than about being a teacher
These actors are not very good actors. It's so obvious this woman is not really singing, the man too. Plus her teeth were very distracting.
and?
