Definitely very weird adjusting the flash and microphone. A cool mod but not really practical.
Yeah I agree
Oh hey dude! Love your videos keep it up ;D!
Hi man I watch your videos, would you recommend me doing this to my iPhone XS?
@@shrekislove422 not really. Its more of a try at your own risk. Its a cheaper build than original housings. More of something to display, less practical with day to day use
@@PhoneRepairGuru ok thanks, also keep up the good work 👍👍

Thought perhaps I would perform this on my xs max. But fml this is tedious.
repairing phones is not analogous to surgery at all

Saving iPhones is more important then saving lives hahahhahah
I did this in January to my iPhone X. Within the first month, I got a hairline crack on the camera due to stresses when it was made. I also completely shattered the back as the phone was in my pocket and I hit the corner of a table. The glass is soooo weak that you can break it with your finger nail. So anyone planning on doing this, don’t. The quality all round is low. Also I am replacing the glass with wood, as it is more custom. I might post a video of it in the future. Have a good day
This comment should be higher.
The sad truth about such mods
@@bravesonly sadly- I thought that since China has been making fake housings for ages, this one might be good. Yeah…. I was wrong.
I found what looks like a nice protection case for my phone, but they only showed renders, so here's hoping it looks somewhat decent in real life. And yes I've gone off trying to change the phone's housing as it seems like too much work for reducing build quality and function
@@RennieAsh good choice
@@nitroneal4998 The "pet peeves" kept building up as he put that housing together lol the buttons needed fixing, the cable doesn't fit, no hole for mic - crappier audio, then the screen just looks tacked on like a $20 LCD replacement I'll just do it with an external case instead XD

This is something I always think about glad you made it real!
Literally same, and I’m so glad he did this! I think transforming a phone into another is so cool!!!
I’ve always thought about this and i didn’t know if it actually could work-
Probably the third time I’ve watched this video and amazed every time at your ability to take these puzzles apart and get them back together without parts left over.

My favorite part every video of yours is the last part, 'And, WE ARE DONE! '. So satisfying!

Man your videos always have some exceptional and crucial detals which other creators don't bother to discuss. Good Job👍🏻
This is what I was hoping to see! There are so many back panels to fake the look, I really wanted you to make a video with your good shots showing it! Thank you!
Please give your review about the third-party CRAZY battery that you always use.
Incredible content Hugh, keep up with the amazing work!
Holy crap bro, that's a lot of tear down and reassembly! Thanks for the video!
Just something I'd like: a playlist of all the things from that 26 kilo mac lot that you've attempted fixing. Really enjoy ur stuff btw.
I’m so glad I’ve watched you do this and shown all the problems with it because I really wanted to do this to my phone but I won’t bother now I’m a perfectionist and this just isn’t perfect 👍🏽
They now ship with a new flex cable which doesnt have a microphone
It would be great if you colour coded your screw driver bits, that's way we can understand when you switch bits
Bring more of these conversion videos, Love them❤️
That so great, every time when i watching your videos i'm surprised how it's easy, but after i understand you have a lot of experience and practice.
Ah the nostalgia. I had a xs max for a long time and I used to open it up lot to try and fix the face id. Those were good times lol. That phone taught me a lot about fixing newer iphones as all I knew how to fix where older ones.
You know the xs max is only 2 years old right
I love his vids i learned soo much that I been fixing my family members phones thanks Hugh
Absolutely true, and I will add that the wifi power will considerably drop. I did X->12 pro, but 12 pro cases won't fit the modified one. It's more the size of 11pro, which is smaller. The new flashlight, even when it is happy and decides to turn on, will not really enlighten photos in the dark. I thought no one would buy it, and ended up selling it more than a year ago to someone I know, explaining the issues, and they are still happy with it to now :). I still have some of these, but am planning to do it anytime soon.
I messaged you on Instagram about this conversion, I’m glad to see you actually do it!
oh man, i praise you for this tremendous hard work

I’m still using a Xs Max and after seeing this video, doesn’t seem like the trade off of looks for functionality are worth it. I think the design of it is pretty classic myself and the quality of the cameras have really held up.
I hate when little things like that happen because like yourself, I am a perfectionist when it comes to going iPhone repairs. I wouldn't have even closed permanently until I tested and made sure it worked 100%. Aside from that, awesome vid as usual.
Yeah I didn't understand that, why not charge it opened, just for 15-20 minutes and then confirm it actually works?
May be he checked it behind the scenes.
@@shameelkhan209 Agreed, no doubt he did check it. He's not stupid.
Don't have to be stupid not to do it, and ofc we're all hoping he did it that way but we won't know it.
Dang! That was a Pro custom mod job bro! Nice work! Reminds me of when I used to do body swaps on the 4's and 4S back in the day. Thumbs down on the maker of that case and flex cable issue. But nice to know there are products out there like this. You got skills man!
Use to do the same and made a killing in middle school
This is some serious professionalism brother, respect.
Watching from my real 12 Pro Max, really cool mod, shame about the drawbacks, as it would be perfect without the little problems, as usual you have the patience of a saint and completed a successful repair and conversion whilst making it look easy.
Great job with the transfer! However, I feel the Xs max design is so much better than the squared off design. The square design might look cool but the sharp edges are uncomfortable to your hand after holding it for a while. Try holding a 12 max for a while then a Xs max and it is like night and day more comfortable!
Most people use a case anyway
I did the same conversion on a xr the only suggestion i have for you is to use some T7000 adhesive around the speaker and charging port to help retain waterproof functionality otherwise great job
Your fine motor skills and attention to every small detail in these micro devices reminds me of master watch makers of the 1700s!
you're so talented!
It's alot of work...but Hugh makes it so easy to watch and follow.
I love your videos because your work is so clear❤🇧🇩from Bangladesh 😊
Hello @HughJeffreys I wanted to address the flex cabling you mentioned that go from the wireless charging pad to the buttons: those cables are meant to be ground cables to ground the charging pad to the assembly housing. This type of grounding is quite common in electronics and even things like spacecraft.
For the Face ID trust me when I say it alway use heat gun on the glass side of the screen for 4-6 seconds which makes the removal of that cable much easier and you don’t have to worry about breaking it or not working for some reason 👌
I did this to! But there is no rear microphone hole 😅
does cellular data work? and hopefully a jailbreak tweak could make the bottom mircophone default for everything.
Hugh! always enjoy watching your videos, improving day by day and it looks great. I had one suggestion, as on what I do when open phones. so these phones have different cameras and optical sensors with lenses. to protect then I first apply a small piece of cello tape as soon as I open it such that the tape doesn't touch the lens but it protects dust and smudges getting towards the lens. I feel this is important as these lenses are factory clean but if we even use microfibre and try to clean if there is any dust we won't be able to get it clean as that was from the factory.
Fake phone.
Loved the detailing of video top notch 👌🏼

At this point, Apple might as well pair the adhesive, screws and volume buttons to the phone
At least for a knockoff, it still has actual Apple parts. Impressive. 😎
What are you talking about, the XS is a real iPhone and the new 12 PM is just a housing for the phone.
@@xoo6920 exactly, nothing knockoff about this project lol
i guess it's more of a mod than a knockoff
@@xoo6920 Sorry folks. I'll be more sensitive about the terminology I use.

Somehow I don't know what for, and why as well, my mind is stuck up to a Morrissey's tune "Irish blood English heart". In this case, and given the modifications you've made all along, is like saying "iPhone X blood iPhone 12 heart". Somehow whilst the project was very joyful to watch the end result and the issues that exists within just doesn't give justice to this whole effort. But on the bright side that was a brilliant video because it was joy to see the insides of the broken iPhone taking a sort of a new life. Keep it up mate.

Well done for persevering 👍
Dude, do you put all that back together from memory? That is freakin awesome and incredible.
Looking at the amount of ribbon cables, brackets, and retaining clips, not to mention the multiple amounts of screws, I just wonder how apple is able to mass produce these things.
Answer is simple. Loads of Chinese kids crammed in a factory. Young little hands seem perfect for such a precision job.

What? It’s simple, I could do this when I was 10.

The fact that they forgot to cut a hole for the rear microphone feels like an oversight to me, and that the person who you bought the part from likely bought them in bulk from someone else.
:awesome:
oi, why doesn't it work?
Great video mahn appreciate your effort 💕❤️❤️🔥
New camera? Looks really good hugh👌🏾
im against people who do this to look relevant but im for people who do it because they genuinely like the new design and their current phones do the job well and dont need to be replaced
Hi Hugh
I love your videos, however showing that this can be done will only increase the number of people getting cheated by scammers selling them old iPhones saying its the new model.
Also, the rear mic is also used for noise suppression during voice calls (from earpiece and not with speakerphone), so the noise suppression capabilities will also be limited.
Nice Effort Hugh!
That microphone would give me constant nightmares, if I knew, it's "installed" like that. Also, if the new battery went flat during storage, it might very well have degraded further than the 13%, the original one had lost. Overall an outstanding job, as usual, but from perfectionist to perfectionist, this has to be said ;)
Great, now I have to be even more scared of online scams :)

fun fact:
in North Huaqiang ,Shenzhen, China, there are lots of manufacturers who customize 2nd handed iPhone XRs into iphone 11s, 12s, and even 13s. they sell them online for about 1500 yuan(about 225 usd). some people even send their XRs there and get the phone converted there, as XR, 11, 12 and 13 all are the same size. many students with low budget want to have something iOS so they buy the customized iPhones. and hence, a Chinese internet meme appeared, which is saying that everything tech related is customized from an XR, from phones, tablets and i even have seen a comment below a motorbike video saying it is customized from an iPhone XR
I wanna kno more PMO
@@LOCKBlT at the time this comment was published 8 months ago, the price was 1500 yuan for an xr into 11 12 or 13. now with the same price you can buy the iphone 11 modified into 12 or 13, which of course makes the modded xr way cheaper. these phones are usually cheaper without face id as they removed the expensive parts and replaced them with cheaper ones. they are usually sold on tiktok online shops and they are shipped from basically the same place, but more people just prefer to buy a 2nd hand xr or 11 (unmodified) and a modding kit which changes the shape into the 12 or 13. and i saw a skit that says 10 years later, you can still customise the xr into the latest iphones
