konnichiwa Fumi-san, I am new on your channel, I found it because my Japanese Teacher told me to watch movies or listen to japanese music. So on the search I found you. I saw a few of your videos and I will do more because your speaking is not so fast and your voice is really good. I am studying japanese now since around 6 months, slowly I feel better to understand a little bit (for sure not all). On the other side I like your videos because they show me a "real world" of Japan regions, cities, normal life, I like that very much. I will travel next year April and May to Japan (full two months), I learned to love Japan during a cruise last year where I could see in 7 stops many parts, but not long enough, that's the reason of my journey next year. So, finally , I don't want to bore you too much, Yesterday evening my time (Switzerland) I saw this video about supermarket and Christmas preparation. And I really love it to see the big supermarket (it's 90% like in our home cities), from beginning with Fruits and vegetable section to the end with the cashier automat. Here I can say Japan looks more "modern" than Switzerland or Germany. After it the cooking part of your KFC - Home made meal. I showed this today my wife, she was also surprised, and she ask me how you did the "tempura" ingredients , I mean where you put in finally the chicken before cooking. Fumi san, thank you so very much for your encouragement at the end of yet another great video. I am following your advice, choosing short paragraphs and learning vocabulary before shadowing, I am seeing some small improvement, and I know it will continue, thank you again🙏🏼
Hello from Korea! Japanese supermarket looks very familiar. I thought you were shopping here in my neighborhood. Thank you for sharing your life. I don't speak Japanese well but thanks to Korean subtitles I have no difficulty understanding the video. Thank you~~~
Im started learning Japanese around 3 weeks. Now only can read hiragana words but I’m very happy with my progress! I saw ur videos by youtube recommendation and I loved! I don’t have many vocabulary yet but
In the US, I live in a smaller city, our shopping carts usually get too full and you have to use your car to fill up all your groceries. But now that I am living in Japan, I usually buy groceries every few days based on what I want to cook because I have to carry everything in a tote bag and walk home. I have to use a translation app whenever I buy packaged products and I don’t know what is inside. It’s a fun experience. But I enjoy shopping and use it as a opportunity to learn the Japanese language.
Here in Brazil, Christmas is also celebrated on Christmas Eve, the 24th. In the next day we eat the leftovers and rest (because of all that energy spent the previous day).
Merry Christmas! I thought you were going to use the egg and milk for the chicken crust 🤭 I was surprised by English words in your supermarket. It seems like a nice store, prices are close to ours here in Central California. Thank you for doing these videos. I really enjoy learning language and daily life from them
Thank you! I’m glad you like the videos! Actually, I should have used eggs and milk for chicken. I went with an easier recipe, and I kind of regretted it😂
In Czechia we eat carp for xmas, people raise cultivate them in man made lakes, lagoons. Also eat open face sandwiches as fast food. And drink a lot of wine or beer,
Konnichiwa, Fumi-san, because am not yet an "online" student of you (i am student of another Online-teacher and time i too less for two now), but could be later, so I want to say thank you for all your work (Documents) and send a small "THANK YOU", Arigatou gozaimasu, Frank
Merry Christmas ^-^ well, I suppose that is over and I hope you had a good time. The food looks delicious :D Our supermarkts will have vegetables and fruits when you enter, too, but usually things are not wrapped in that much plastik here 😅 in general, really. Some things will be but not as much. As for christmas..on Christmas eve many Germans seem to traditionally eat a very simple dinner. I know some that will have potatoe-dishes and sausage (yeah yeha the clishee XD ). Someone once told me the different dishes have meanings for the new year, somewhere else I read this is due to the fact that originally christmas was celebrated on the 25h like in many other countries. Nowadays it's normal in Germany to celebrate on the 24th however (including opening the presents). Anyway, my family never did that as nobody liked the meals so we used to always have a fondue on Christmas Eve :) (most of the time pasta fondue) On the following days its very common to have a roasted goose or duck depending on the family's size. Another popular dish I think is "Sauerbraten" which is a beef roast marinated in a vinegarish brough for a few days. Then, the sauce is thickened with gingerbread (amongst many other spices, grapes are also commonly added). It sounds wild but is very delicious. Needless to say both dishes take a while. Populare sides are dumplings of all sorts as well as different kinds of cabagge (like red cabagge or brussel sprouts). All in all I think many other roasts are also served in other families but these two are more common? Maybe, in general I think meals that stay in the oven for a while are often eaten during the cold season. Both dishes can often be bought in German restaurants but they usually tend to pale in comparison to home cooking. Sadly those restaurants are rarely a good reflection of German dishes imo :( I think we got a rather bad rep. because of that lol Well that was a longer explanation than what you signed up for I bet. I am pretty sure you will rarely find strawberries anywhere (which would be off season here and usually very expensive and very bland) nor would you find chicken all that much. It's a bit of a shame, the cake's color fits the theme so well XD

Thank you. I am looking forward to this trip. It is going to be epic. A friend and I are planning to ride the Shimanami Kaido on unicycles. So in preparation for that I am binge watching your videos to bring up my Japanese to a basic level to get by while on that trip. I very much appreciate your approach to the way your content is so calculated and methodical. It is hard for a fluent person to think down at the level of a learner. I am guessing your own learning of Korean gives you the right ideas and insight how your own lessons should be. Whatever the reason it makes your videos stand out among all the other similar content out there. I enjoy the diversions to different topics in each video. Doing a cooking recipe this time was very fitting. On other videos for example introducing an author or a book are very interesting. It takes the drudgery of beginner level learning away and helps the reader feel like they are already making use of the language. It keeps the reader motivated. Outstanding work on your part and lucky for those of us who have found the channel to follow.
@@SpeakJapaneseNaturally Thanks! I shared your video with my kids and they would eat your chicken over KFC for sure. We love watching homestyle cooking and vlogs, and yours provide valuable insights into the culture and everyday lifestyles. :D

Hello, Fumi-sensei! Merry Christmas! Maligayang Pasko! Ahh yes, christmas and shopping do go hand-in-hand. 😊 0:50 In The Philippines, snacks, beauty products, and cleaning products usually are in front, while meat, fruits, vegetables and dairy are at the back. 2:53 In The Philippines, it still is to this day. 😅😅😅 3:21 I cannot relate to this, with me being single and all. 😅😢 3:46 Why must you hit me right in the gut, sensei? 😅😅😅 8:12 LESGOOO I WANNA CHUG IT!!! 😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 That aside, me and my cousins used to have beer and sing karaoke every Christmas Eve. 😂😂😂 10:13 I always wanted to try this cake 😊 10:21 EVEN BETTER 16:04 Go to church, (me being a Catholic and all) do some gift shopping, and having a feast, and talk with my relatives. 😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉 Happy Holidays! 😊😊😊
I like how that even though it's a Japanese store, there is still giant "BEEF," "PORK," "CHICKEN" on the top wall by the meats. :D Here in the states eggs are pasteurized, so they need to be kept refrigerated or else they will go bad. Also they come in cartons of 12 for about $7 more or less depending on the brand.
Actually, for us, it’s more familiar to see those signs in the alphabet rather than in kanji. If they were written in kanji, it would feel strange to me. Your comment made me realize that-thank you!
Excellent video. I was surprised to see "Fresh Meat" signs in English , but I was not surprised to hear that you don't like the taste of natto, but you eat it for its health benefits, LOL.....
Dear Fumi, with a raspier voice in this video, you still maintained to teach us with gentleness. How are you? well wishes from a city outside LA. Thank you for your creativity from passion in teaching Nihongo to others. Arigato Gozaimashita
I caught the flu and I’ve just recovered from it when I recorded the voice for the video. Now I’m okay. Thank you so much for your kind words. Happy holidays 😊✨
The Christmas chicken tradition may have started with pictures of turkeys on US tables during the holiday season. I don't think even if whole turkey is available in Japan, one can roast large birds like that because such big ovens are not usually seen in single houses or apartments.
I wish that you had a Merry Christmas! and thank you for this video! I am from Brazil and a new high school student in next year, I don't really like the Christmas here if in my family (with a bunch of parents and kids), but i don't think that is that bad. but i think that's could be better if you are with person that you like! What that I don't like in Christmas is my neighborhood with the music in the last volume in the musicbox, I can't do so much things about it, and it's just music that it's just like noise pollution with very adult elements instead more light music, because there kids in there too, What i liked in Christmas in this way is just the dinner ... Sorry, It can feel'd a little negative....
Slightly strange request, but can you add the Japanese subtitles to the video on UA-cam too? I started using a tool that helps me look up words and make flash cards while watching videos and it accesses the UA-cam subtitles to make the process easier! Unfortunately it can't access the subtitles burned into the video images. I wouldn't want to have to go through too much trouble, but if you have the files anyways it would be helpful. Thank you as always for your excellent videos! I've been watching for 6 months or so and I've seen my comprehension increase :)
I usually add Japanese subtitles, but for this one, they somehow didn’t upload properly. Thank you for letting me know! I’ve added them now, so you can make use of them. I’m glad to hear you’ve been watching for six months!

It's fascinating to me that Christmas is considered more of a romantic holiday in Japan. Almost like Valentine's day in America ♡
The difference is interesting, right?😁
I think it is also romantic in the USA and Europe, when it isn't focused on families.
Japanese aren’t as family oriented as Americans and are mostly atheist who gives a lot of trust on the self.
'It's the most hi-deous time of the year!' Rofl! I hate it, because it's the one time of year when people get ridiculously nostalgic - natsukashi.
🤨
I just learned you have to eat fried chicken and eat Christmas cake in Japan during Christmas too haha
To speak fluent Japanese you need to speak to Japanese people which is almost imposible cause they are really reserved people and they are not outgoing. That's the reality. Your effort is appreciated.

Pls share your strawberry cake recipe too, love watching recipe videos in foreign language .😊
I will consider that for the future! 😊
@@SpeakJapaneseNaturally Thanks! I shared your video with my kids and they would eat your chicken over KFC for sure. We love watching homestyle cooking and vlogs, and yours provide valuable insights into the culture and everyday lifestyles. :D

YUNA ale is by far my favourite beer 🍺 and that fried chicken looks amazing !!

Hello, Fumi-sensei!
Merry Christmas!
Maligayang Pasko!
Ahh yes, christmas and shopping do go hand-in-hand. 😊
0:50 In The Philippines, snacks, beauty products, and cleaning products usually are in front, while meat, fruits, vegetables and dairy are at the back.
2:53 In The Philippines, it still is to this day. 😅😅😅
3:21 I cannot relate to this, with me being single and all. 😅😢
3:46 Why must you hit me right in the gut, sensei? 😅😅😅
8:12 LESGOOO I WANNA CHUG IT!!! 😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
That aside, me and my cousins used to have beer and sing karaoke every Christmas Eve. 😂😂😂

I’m glad you enjoyed this video!
Did you have a good time at Christmas eve?😊
Happy holidays, GK-san!
Helpful
Thank you!😊
Excellent video. I was surprised to see "Fresh Meat" signs in English , but I was not surprised to hear that you don't like the taste of natto, but you eat it for its health benefits, LOL.....
I guess I’m tired of natto😅
Sure!
😁👍
I loved shopping at my local Daie in Sapporo
Sapporo must be a nice place to live😊

@@SpeakJapaneseNaturally
Dear Fumi, with a raspier voice in this video, you still maintained to teach us with gentleness. How are you? well wishes from a city outside LA. Thank you for your creativity from passion in teaching Nihongo to others. Arigato Gozaimashita
I caught the flu and I’ve just recovered from it when I recorded the voice for the video. Now I’m okay. Thank you so much for your kind words.
Happy holidays 😊✨
@ Glad to hear you have recovered. Happy Holidays to you and family as well ✨💐💫
The Christmas chicken tradition may have started with pictures of turkeys on US tables during the holiday season. I don't think even if whole turkey is available in Japan, one can roast large birds like that because such big ovens are not usually seen in single houses or apartments.
I think you’re right that it comes from American Christmas traditions. In Japan, turkey isn’t sold, so we use chicken instead.
Buche de Noel surprised me. It’s called “Christmas log” in English.
We took a French name for it and actually it sounds somewhat nicer😅
Please include English subtitles thanks
You can find it in the settings on UA-cam.
Hi i am your fan❤
Thank you!!
Please enjoy other videos!
There are a lot 😁😁
I wish that you had a Merry Christmas! and thank you for this video!
I am from Brazil and a new high school student in next year,
I don't really like the Christmas here if in my family (with a bunch of parents and kids), but i don't think that is that bad. but i think that's could be better if you are with person that you like!
What that I don't like in Christmas is my neighborhood with the music in the last volume in the musicbox, I can't do so much things about it, and it's just music that it's just like noise pollution with very adult elements instead more light music, because there kids in there too,
What i liked in Christmas in this way is just the dinner ...
Sorry, It can feel'd a little negative....
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!
Now that Christmas is over, I hope you have got a quieter environment back😊
Slightly strange request, but can you add the Japanese subtitles to the video on UA-cam too?
I eat natto because it is awesome
Natto is really good for your health 😁👍
6:42 sensei かかっているfrom which verb?
The dictionary form of かかっている is かかる
〜がかかる means (music) is played 😊
