Actually, it's rumored that the refrain "Annie, are you OK?" was inspired by Resusci Anne, a dummy used in CPR training.
Annie was okay but that was because she was the one that was behind everything that happened that night -the police are still looking for her to this day. If you see her don't approach her, call the police and get the hell out of there.
I don’t think she was. I heard that MJ got the idea from a news story about a father who found his daughter murdered after a break-in. He kept screaming, “Annie, are you ok!”.
If this is true, it’s horrifically sad, and a bit iffy that so much money has been made and so many people have been entertained by this family’s tragedy.
I think that the point of the story in the song is that Annie isn't okay and that she might be dead.

There will be obvious comparisons to Alien Ant Farm’s metal cover from 2001, though you guys managed to put your own nuanced energy into it. IMO, it can easily stand side by side with AAF. Their video as garnered over 200 million views, so you’re in great company! You should be proud! 🤘
