I love how "Bubu" the mechanical owl seems as if if he's just there for comic relief, then becomes an essential hero at the end of the movie.
*Bubo
Just like Orko in the cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Bubu helped Perseus take out the Kraken ..love it
Your mom bubu
The owl is not a comedy effect. The owl is the most representative symbol of ancient Greek civilization. In ancient Greece, the owl was considered the messenger and pet of the goddess Athena, and was also considered a symbol of Athena. There are owls on the flag and currency of Athens Symbols, and Athena loves heroes the most, and Athena blesses the ancient Greek heroes behind their adventures. There are a lot of ancient Greek movies with owls, and if you've seen an Odyssey animation, they also have an owl on the boat.
When Perseus threw the head of Medusa to the sea... the first stone fish was created.😂
😂
I remember watching this movie in about 89, I was seven years old and I thought those were the best special effects ever. Watching it now, its still cool because of how it made me feel then
Absolutely brilliant. I love these old monster movies.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how great the soundtrack is and how it changes from despair to hope as the hero arrives. It's so crisp sounding.
And the stop motion of Harryhousen shows that he was a master of his craft.
The soundtrack is awesome! Great movie!!
Yes! There is a superb use of a royal fanfare (with the horns) announcing his imminent arrival
The Medusa glowing eyes in this version is much better than the newer version
Muito mais medonho e aterrorizante, show.
One of The coolest monsters on a 80’s film
Medusa or the Kraken?
@@maryrobinson4131The OWL, man!
One of my favorite movies from my childhood
Favorite movie as a kid. Loved it. Owned it on vhs. Watched it from our top loader vcr. 80s was a great era to be a kid
agree
Much better version than that of the recent one 🙂🙂🙂🙂
The 1981 is a mythological adventure movie, the 2012 was just an action movie really.
I enjoy this film, a classic w/ great special effects by Ray Harryhausen
Fosho
That man was a legend in stop motion. I think he did the sinbad films too
How do they make the monster
@@cupidok2768 clay & @ stop motion
@@williamsmith4414 too long
One of the best movies in it's time. I remember when it came out.
in its time and now.
I remember this movie. But good lord the editing on this. The longest wait, flight, untying of a bag in cinema history
The Kraken is cracking up.
😂😂😂😂😂
I was just 9 and I still remember watching this movie in the theatre.
Best movie of all time to this date. Deserves 100 oscars.
Be real
Rocky Balboa, jaws, the godfather?
Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Predator, Terminator 2?
I remember watching this movie at my friends in his living room. We had a VCR that had a remote control that was tethered to the VCR via an actual cord. Great movie.
I was 10 years young at the time and I agree.. 100 Oscars at least.. This movie tought me what true "FEAR" and "TERROR" (not yelling) just serious..
I loved this movie. It's still one of my favorites. I was always bothered by how long it took him. I mean, the Kraken WAS RIGHT THERE! It's looking at her and Perseus is like...in the mountains? Then it looks at her some more. Now he's over the palace. Then it looks some more at her, makes grabby hands, and THERE HE IS! But he can't get the freaking bag open!!! This killed me as a child, Lol.
This scene, in the original version, is SO much better than the remake. Even the scene of Medusa hunting down Perseus in her palace had far more tension and forboding than the modern remake. For its time, this film was a masterpiece, and still holds up well against modern CGI crap.
This Medusa was way scarier looking than the new version.
and the Kraken is literally Crackin at the end...
So much better than the remake.❤
Totally agree
They should totally make a video game out of this
Well, I also like the 2010 one.
😂 Not for me.
This one’s goofy, and kinda boring.
Bubu is a mix between C3PO and R2D2 😂
The Stop Motion of Kraken is great
I kinda felt sad for the Kraken. He's kept in an underwater cage in complete isolation from the outside world, he's probably kept starving so he's compelled to eat the first thing he sees, and then he innocently looks at Madusa's head....and then in a final cry he's turned to stone. I hope in his death his soul can be free 😢
Oh puleese🙄🙄🙄
@@foneniusfonenius1166 😅😂🤣
Yeah and let's face it, that's a pretty cheap way to kill a magnificent creature like that. But I suppose it was about the only choice considering the size of it.
Kraken is'n part of Greek Mithology but if he is a Titan in movie history, he doesn't need to eat,
What if Perseus held up that head and it was pointed the wrong way??
Perseus turns to a "Pillar of 🧂 salt". Kraken gets girl and bubu and pegasus become a heroes in the sequel.
I've thought the same thing all these years. Andromeda was right there! Gotta watch where he points that thing lmao
It's what happened to the Percy Jackson franchise
Honestly I would love to get my hands on Medusas head I could stone my enemys
Crap man!
Actualy pretty good special effects for the time I'd say, well done to them I enjoyed that.
Stop motion was already on its way out by 1981, but as a kid you didn't care because there was so much imagination and adventure going on! So wait....if he threw Medusa's head into the ocean does that mean he's turning all the fish to stone?!?!?
The head turns into an Octopus !
This was one of my favourite films when I was a kid ❤
It is only a great soundtrack that can elevate a great movie to a sublime experience. The music here evokes awe and wonder.
That perseus pose while he is holding the medusa head looks badass XD
The sad thing about this clip is it was filmed at the Azure Window in Gozo and a couple of years ago it fell into the sea 😢
wow, thats so sad.
Respect to the OG movies ✊️✊️
this was probably state of the art 40 years ago
The Greek legends also says that when Perseus threw Medusa’s head in the ocean, the current caused the head to roll around on the ocean floor turning all the plant life into coral.
Saw this in the theater when I was 12, still remember it being a lot of fun.
Great movie with an amazing soundtrack that matches the scenes!!
Pegasus was like are you trying to kill me ? 😅
I saw this movie when I was a child and I was totally bewitched, although I did not understand almost anything,
Watching this movie made me a fan of horror, Greek mythology and stop-motion, that's how powerful Ray Harryhaussen was
What an awesome monster!!! A worthy opponent for Hulk to smash!!!!
I love this movie 😍😍😍😍😍
Ol' Andromeda is pretty casual about the whole thing. Olivier-level acting here.
Magnifique
Very beautiful❤
Great movie saw it when I was a kid
Good effects for its time
It’s amazing seeing the evolution of effects and what they could do at the time
Big monsters coming out of the ocean are scary
The genius ray harryhausen..
At 03:35, the discus throw! How he threw the gorgon's (Medusa) head. I think it was added to the Olympics.
Like they said in Boy Scouts, select the right knot for the job.
This movie is superior to the remake ... ironic.
Not really. It’s just nostalgic
I agree 100%
My childhood memories
I was bout 10 when I first watched this,,it really scared the hell out of me 😂😂
Still the greatest Greek myth to film ever made! Not completely accurate to the story of Perseus but still amazing music, cinematography and overall mythical atmosphere!
Good quality video
This scene is the best in all eons
He cracked the Kraken.
Nice film.
Goodbye Kraken!
Odin: Zeus, how's my Kraken doing? I can't wait to see him.
Zeus: Um...
Robotic Bird 😂😂😂😂😂. Funny scene, Dragon was also luking to Hero 😂😂😂😂
Even as a kid I remembered being frustrated that Perseus hadn’t had the bag untied before he got there😂
The head was too dangerous to chance it until he was ready. Plus he was concentrating on getting there in time.
Perseus was described as "the Greatest heroes of all time"
Relíquia ❤
Oh! I didn't look closely at the title. I just knew there was a 1981 movies about this. Loved the new movies with all the CGI glory. you can really feel how this scene is imagined.
Medusa❤
She deserved better 🥀
Esse filme é espetacular
As a kid i was disappointed the Kraken crumbled. What a cool statue that would have made!
Todo un clásico
Why would Perseus chuck Medusa's head into the sea, isn't that rather irresponsible, then every fish that looks at her would turn to stone.
I love the fact that all sealife in the area become stone after the head toss.
This movie is before my time but it became one of my favorite movies when one of my English teachers showed this when teaching Greek mythology. I really enjoyed the story and the stop motion. The remake came out and I wanted to check it out. It was ok but the 1981 is much better than the other one
True fact this movie inspired Nikki Sixx to write the song "Looks That Kill".
At 1:17
The Kraken: What are ya’ll looking at? Oh!
I have it on DVD 😊
Harry Hamlin
I absolutely loved this movie as a kid....much better than that horrible remake
I like the kraken though.
MIL VEZES MELHOR DO QUE AQUELA PORCARIA DO REMAKE!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Burgess Meredith: Get up, Rock...I mean, Perseus!
Cool
That old guy must be thinking whytf i signed this film
Love the Laurence Rosenthal score. Although, would've loved to have heard John Barry's score if he originally scored the film.
3:36 "and that's why we cannot eath fish anymore, my son"
Lol the bag tight
This scene cracked me up. 😁
Few movies capture my imagination and locks it inside a steel vault like this one does
I like how the Kraken has rock hard abs 😂
Thats some deep water!
Hahahaha 😂😂😂😂😂
The Kraken just got cracked!
FIND AND FULFILL YOUR DESTINY!
It's kinda funny and cool at the same time that the actor playing Perseus would reprise his role in God of War 2. It doesn't end well for him though.
