I don't think you represent Nook business Model correctly. 1. You start out in debt, but from Nooks reaction, its something you should have known beforehand. He gives you a very generous and fast way out of it as well. 2. You go into debt to buy a house, but you're not obligated to do so. Also, you get something for it. The house is yours. You don't have a payback plan as well and can keep from paying off your debt forever. 3. Bells are the national currency, and can get rich pretty fast on your island. Nook miles is a currency tied to the island, but not only do you get them for doing whatever, you can exchange them for bells ata pretty reasonable rate. Though the process is tedious. 4. Yes, Nook himself pays you pretty measly when you work for him, but you barely do and you're not really forced to do it in any way.
