I live in Southern California the summers are brutal 🥵so I’m tinting this spring , Thank you so much I really appreciate how you used the suggestions ! 👍🏽🤓
I was ready to give up on installation. Couldn't wrap my mind around reaching underneath to remove the coating. The 'backwards' tip - GENIUS!!! Using that tip, the film went up easily. I am encouraged to take on a couple more windows. Thank you!!!
Hey CA B, great question mate, because we are using it as a surfactant- any shampoo could be used, baby shampoo is recommended because its is relatively clear, neutral pH, and doesn’t negatively impact the adhesives in the film like a detergent may. Best of luck🤙 Kent
Hey Kent, I just looked up how to install window tint and found your videos. Now subscribed as well, as I need more diy inspiration. Good work mate... Love the tips on this video... Saw your first vid initially, this is more helpful.
When I installed mine a few years ago, I didn’t even realize that there was a removable film so I ended up putting it on with the tint side facing the window and the removable film facing towards the inside of the room. It still stayed on there and sealed properly, and when I wanted to remove it, it came off with no issues. I’m sure that it was not intended to be installed this way, but it seems like film still worked just fine. Just another idea on getting tinting that is easier to remove since you mentioned that in your video. Anyway, thanks for the great videos! I’m going to install some more soon so I wanted to brush up on how to do it when I came across your videos. Great content!

Do you spray the windows with the shampoo and water to stick it down? Sorry if it sounds dumb just keeping myself right and wondering if it leaves streaky marks. Great video. Thanks in advance.
Hey Patricia, the shampoo/water mix is mainly there to help with repositioning and then removing bubbles with a squeegee. I’ve never attempted window tinting without it - but have found if I don’t spray enough then the film sticks straight away and is not forgiving at all. Best of luck, Kent
Thank you, Kent! Thank you for sharing your experience, your knowledge, your tips, and for leaving up the other video of your first install (and it's mistakes)! Really very helpful! Thank you!

The sticking to another window to remove the film didn't work for me. I had to tape to a wall, remove a little, tape up the backing with strong tape and then pull it off. 😢
Hey Mike, if that’s a problem you’ve come across that’s a great tip! I haven’t had any misfortune with that.. but there’s a first for everything I guess 🤔 Cheers mate, Kent
@@Eddie-ud4bb I believe this person meant that you shouldn't install the film while the sun is shining directly on the window. Try to do it early in the day or when it's cloudy so the glass won't be hot from the sun. Hey Tamara, I only know from my limited experience, prior to tinting we had one collision, and since the mirror tint went on we’ve had one in a couple of years.. so, not sure if that means anything 💁🏻♂️ good luck mate, Kent
Hey Michael, I’m not sure about that as I haven’t had to do it. You are probably right though as a little heat can relax polyester (PET) products. Best of luck mate. Kent

Hey mate, yeah you can but bear in mind that the adhesive on the permanent films can interact with the plastic and become bubbled, and actually create a permanent bond, leaving you unable to remove the film in the future.. maybe look at other options like static cling film. Here’s a link 😉 amzn.to/3UFoYpT cheers, Kent
Hey kinggabriel, definitely have the card between the blade and the gasket (rubber seal) I learnt the hard way and cut too many slices off my rubbers😬. All the best mate. Kent

I had a wierdo son (who doesn't even live here) park outside my house while visiting his mother and stare me out, not just glancing, full prolonged wierdo stare out, several times through my kitchen window (about 12 feet away) that has one of those vertical slat blinds. Normally I don't have a problem with anyone else staring only getting the odd wierdo. I've realised my kitchen window is a wierdo detector lol. My sink, kettle etc is beside the window so I think some people think I am staring out at them when I'm just boiling the kettle or such. Thing is I like the light coming in and like to see out just to see the day, not stare at people, so am thinking reflective film but then they will all start looking at it and even though I know they won't see into my kitchen. I think it will be very strange but I may just have to go for it as this last worst wierdo was kind of the final straw and now I just don't feel comfortable in my kitchen as before. He was so bad I reported him and his vehicle reg to the police and I ended up having a bust up with his mother who I think is behind it and now we all hate each other. I'm sure there are many such stories which can get quite serious. I think I will go for the sort of two way mirror film. Think I have to now.
Geez geeeezzzz, that's horrible. if you are unsure whether you want a permanent style of film on that glass, you could always install a 'Static-cling' mirror tint (which is non adhesive and removable) like this one which is popular... KESPEN One Way Daytime Privacy Static Cling amzn.to/43O46PD obviously this link takes you to amazon which also shows you other options - you just need to measure your windows and order the right size. @@InspireDIY Hi. Thanks. After reading my initial rant I should probably clarify it is thankfully not my son, nor have I ever been related to his mother who lives 2 houses up (to close lol). Anyhow I think I found the solution. I was put off reflective film because I usually need the light and sun warmth in my kitchen in this cold UK climate so I have ordered some of the static film type that has white opaque stipes and clear stripes inbetween. So with that I should still get the light and heat that I want and also retain a little night privacy compared to the reflective film & I still have the full slat blind if needed but I think when I have the film up I will be able to completely open or maybe even remove that blind. I also don't need to film cover the top highest window section as the wierdos can't see over that so I should have even more nice light coming in than I do now. I should maybe be strangely thankful to the wierdo in forcing me to discover this great window invention that I was previously totally unware was available and an option but I will certainly be considering it from now on.
Tape to split is awesome! Also, if you roll up the tint inside out, separate just the too & spray the sticky side a bit & roll back up (tighter) the backing sticks to the outside film & just pulls off. I don't know how to explain it well, but it's a game-changer!
You lost me when you decided to demonstrate Mary or whoever she was, her idea. Turning it this way, that way, the adhesive side. Make sure this, make sure that. Then I had mine all ready with the tape and I have to see how it's done backwards. Thanks Mary
I install the film , the part I don’t understand is why at night you can’t see the outside from inside is supposed to block the view from the outside , the daytime is fine , it blocks the view from the outside to inside , and I install the film just like the video, anybody can help me with this issues ?
Hey mate, unfortunately there is no film on the market that you can see out of during the day but blocks the view into the house when it’s dark out and lights are on. Kent
Staring at the sliding doors I need to do... any tips for the larger 'glass' please? Need to get the inside house temp much lower than 39 deg this year!
Any thoughts on rolling the tint onto a cardboard tube (maybe a little more narrow than the window) and unrolling the film as I spray the window and separate the tint backing?

Hey mate, cheers for the comments👍 I have a video coming up that measures the before and after temperatures on same weather days for a comparison .. watch this space. Ps. All window film, whether reflective or not is installed on the inside of the pane and in the way it’s designed it does work!👍 Cheers, Kent
Hey Karen, make sure you always have a sharp blade, and when trimming film to window size after install, don’t start your cut at the edge, rather work from the centre 👍 best of luck, Kent
Hey Kenneth, I scored this beauty from the hardware store.. I was tired of cheap ones that stopped spraying or working properly and leaking just to be thrown away and needing replacement. A few extra bucks and it’s still going 👌 cheers, Kent
Hey Casey, measure the space between verticals timber window sills (this would be glass plus aluminium/timber window frame), hope that makes sense. Kent
Hey Hoagnes, great question.. I don’t know enough about window film and its heat transfer to answer, my guess would be minimal extra as it’s only a thin layer of polyethylene. A noticeable difference locking heat from the sun though 👌 let us know what you find out. Cheers, Kent
Great video. Almost every other video talks about doing the reverse roll method which seems a bit daunting for a beginner. I like your method of sticking the film to another window and completely removing the liner before placing the film onto the target window. Seems a lot more forgiving. Don’t think I’ll attempt it without some help though! Cheers.
I really struggled with the edges of the glass. Even though there wasn’t any parts pushing against the edges. Somehow the water just wouldn’t leave the edges.
Hey mate, that's a great question, stay tuned to this channel as I have a video coming up with a measured temperature difference showing before and after. ua-cam.com/channels/YgHdCyiwS9Oy6Lp2r74POQ.html thanks, Kent
@@InspireDIY well here's the thing, he might have been right, and it's what I'm about to do. First of all, you shouldn't put window film on the inside of double glazed units as the reflected heat will heat the unit up and you'll end up with a radiator panel. At best you may just get a warmer room than without the film, at worst, the window will fail. So if it's double glazed, you've got no option but to put on the outside. The other thing is that some films perform better optically / aesthetically from the viewpoint of someone on the inside of the space if the film is on the outside.
Can another type of soap be used instead of baby shampoo. I don't want to have to buy it and never use it again (I have no babies). I have tons of other shampoos, though.
Hey hilmoonr, yeah you can, because I’m a bit clumsy I got one without any sharp edges or metal trim. It’s actually more firm than the typical window ones which I’ve found helps with application too. Best of luck mate.
Hey SkidRenz, I would buy a non-adhesive or static cling type of film, they look just the same when installed but can peel off really easily when you don't want it anymore. see this vid ua-cam.com/video/sUwbOa0K9vA/v-deo.html cheers, Kent

Sorry for the late reply Rosie, thanks for the lovely comment.
How did you get on with the install?
Kent
Thank you for the video! Mine did not go as smoothly, but your video kept it from being a waste of tint and money! I appreciate you
Ahh cheers Jerry, lovely comment mate, and I’m glad it came right in the end - thank you🤙 Kent
Just finished nightshift and you’re voice put me too sleep had too rewatch the video but very good information mate thanks

Whats the ratio mix for the baby shampoo & water please.
20ml of baby shampoo : 1 ltr of water. (A big tablespoon : 4 cups)
Best of luck mate👍 Kent
Is this a permanent film? thank you for the instructions
Hey Tina, yeah this particular film I used is a permanent one, if you want to check out a temporary / removable type, have a look at his vid.. ua-cam.com/video/sUwbOa0K9vA/v-deo.html Cheers, Kent
fabulous video and tips and tricks Kent as I will be doing this myself to save money did you purchase your tint from Bunnings or somewhere else
Hey Vanessa, I’m guessing you are in Oz used off your question (Bunnings) If so try these guys, this is what I used in this video www.polyfilm.com.au/home-and-office-window-tinting its mirror tint, minimal light lost, and good privacy and UV protection for carpets etc… or elsewhere in the world this is the same product amzn.to/3m7OJ1O best of luck, Kent
Very helpful video- gonna give it a try. In America !
Hey ‘not applicable’, best of luck mate, let me know how you get on🤙 Kent
Thank you 🙏 for doing another video with all the wonderful tips because mine went on without a hiccup 😊
ohh thanks for the lovely comment Jennifer, good to hear the tinting project was a success. Kent
Outstanding video! Thank you!😊
Thanks Wilhelmina 🤙 Kent
DO THE TEMP CHECK
Hey mate, cheers for the comments👍
I have a video coming up that measures the before and after temperatures on same weather days for a comparison .. watch this space.
Ps. All window film, whether reflective or not is installed on the inside of the pane and in the way it’s designed it does work!👍
Cheers, Kent
Thanks
Giggidy🤙
Do this tints give you and privacy at night when the lights are turn on?
Hey Douglas, no they don’t mate.. I haven’t seen any on the market that do, but if you came up with some that did you’d be a rich man🤙 Kent
Brilliant, thank you. Mission accomplished fantastic tips
Lovely comment gill, thank you😉 Kent
You did a great job. I'm really DREADING getting started. I have to use 2 pieces of tint for an extra wide window. AHHH!
Hey Umaxen, how did you get on with 2 pieces side by side? Am curious as to how it went. Cheers, Kent
I should have researched more beforw purchasing..is a film different than a tint...i don't want to be committed to a permanent situation
Why we are having trouble with buckling when trimming the film
Hey Karen, make sure you always have a sharp blade, and when trimming film to window size after install, don’t start your cut at the edge, rather work from the centre 👍 best of luck, Kent
@@InspireDIY Thank you for the tips.
@@InspireDIY Thank you for responding with your helpful tips
what kind of spray bottle is that? Looks a lot nicer than a normal spray bottle
Hey Kenneth, I scored this beauty from the hardware store.. I was tired of cheap ones that stopped spraying or working properly and leaking just to be thrown away and needing replacement. A few extra bucks and it’s still going 👌 cheers, Kent
What? That's unlike the internet to give you their 2 cents worth.
Haha, good call Lagger, these comments did supply me with a better technique of tint installation though so that's a win! cheers, Kent
Do you measure to the exact size of the window glass ??
Hey Casey, measure the space between verticals timber window sills (this would be glass plus aluminium/timber window frame), hope that makes sense. Kent
Hi I want to know if this is effective to keep warmth as well?
Hey Hoagnes, great question.. I don’t know enough about window film and its heat transfer to answer, my guess would be minimal extra as it’s only a thin layer of polyethylene. A noticeable difference locking heat from the sun though 👌 let us know what you find out. Cheers, Kent
Great video. Almost every other video talks about doing the reverse roll method which seems a bit daunting for a beginner. I like your method of sticking the film to another window and completely removing the liner before placing the film onto the target window. Seems a lot more forgiving. Don’t think I’ll attempt it without some help though! Cheers.
Good on you Jack, thanks for the comment and all the best with your tinting project, it’s definitely easier with help👌 Kent
Reverse roll takes a bit if practice, but is most definitely the way to go...no battles.
its good that you showing mistakes same as success!
Haha ..it’s because I make a lot of them😬 thanks for the lovely comment Stasys. Kent
G'day Kent! Thank you SO much!!!
Hey Sharmila, you most welcome mate🤙 Kent
Heat and alcohol spray for easy removal
🤔I’ll have to try it, cheers Justin 👍Kent
Thank you Kent for the helpful tips to get this right. It worked a treat.
That’s awesome Kathy, well done mate 🤙 Kent
I really struggled with the edges of the glass. Even though there wasn’t any parts pushing against the edges. Somehow the water just wouldn’t leave the edges.
Hey Kornstar, how did you get on 1 week later.. is it sitting nice and flat now? Kent
@@InspireDIYhey man which tint exactly did you use in this video?
thanks for the tips, how much heat you reduce
Hey mate, that's a great question, stay tuned to this channel as I have a video coming up with a measured temperature difference showing before and after. ua-cam.com/channels/YgHdCyiwS9Oy6Lp2r74POQ.html
thanks, Kent
I like your work, you have a great channel
Thank you Eshagh, that’s very kind 🤙 Kent
What is the brand of window tint you used?
Hey Lucyliu, if you go to the ‘description’ section of this video you will see links to everything used in these videos👍 best of luck. Kent
Great video thank you for sharing
Hey Kristificara, thanks for the nice comment. how did you get on? Kent
Bloody brilliant mate. Thanks, heaps
You’re most welcome John, thanks for the lovely comment 👍 Kent
I watched another video prior to this one and he was sticking the film to outside of the window 😮🤔
Oh dear Lorna, I hope he wasn’t charging a customer for that install🤭 cheers, Kent
Hey Sherry, yeah.. go for it! Just pick the gentlest one - least ‘detergent’ like, no dyes and perfumes👌 all the best. Kent
@@InspireDIY You're the sweetest! You from Downunder? L0ove your "accent"
Haha, thank you 🙂
Perfect job. Peace and Love to you and your's Sir.
Thanks Happy, very kind👌 Kent
can i use normal window squeegee for installation??
Hey hilmoonr, yeah you can, because I’m a bit clumsy I got one without any sharp edges or metal trim. It’s actually more firm than the typical window ones which I’ve found helps with application too. Best of luck mate.
@@InspireDIY Thank you, I'll give it a try
Im just renting a place and its really hot and i want to install a tint like this one. Does this kind of tint easy to remove once my rent is over?
Hey SkidRenz, I would buy a non-adhesive or static cling type of film, they look just the same when installed but can peel off really easily when you don't want it anymore. see this vid ua-cam.com/video/sUwbOa0K9vA/v-deo.html cheers, Kent
@@InspireDIY thanks kent! Cheers!
Thank you 🎉 from NYC😊!
Cheers Lexic, you're welcome from Down Under. Kent
what size roll did you purchase or did you measure first and the purchased to size
hey, yeah I measured the width, and then the total length of all windows and ordered roll/s to suit
@@InspireDIY thank you
Thanks
Excellent. Thank you
Thanks prolific🤙 Kent
Great video, and thanks for sharing, will be doing my storm door this week. Hope it turns out as nice as your windows.
Thanks Cheri, that’s very kind ..best of luck with your door tinting👍 Kent
Why do we avoid the ammonia-based sprays?
Hey JPJP, Great question, apparently the caustic nature of ammonia breaks down the adhesive used in window films. Cheers, Kent
@@InspireDIY Ahh. Thank you.
Way too complicated for me
Oh I have faith in you Kay. Try and rope in a friend to help out - best of luck. Kent
Thanks mate.
You’re most welcome HK🤙 Kent
