In my opinion, this design aged quite well, inside and out. It’s clean simple, and (dare I say) relatively attractive. The two-tone leather interior with square perforations was actually quite fancy.
Mercury. It's sad to think that this brand no longer exists. The brand did admittedly make some beautiful cars in their history but they only catered to a target market that was dwindling over time, The older generation. The older generation wanted near-luxury, boat handling, and inoffensive styling. Brands like Oldsmobile and Mercury both catered to that target group. Oldsmobile realised in the mid 90s that the older target market was a dwindling business and they tried to change that, sadly to no avail. Buick had also realised this and over the early 21st century they made a great turnaround that lasts even to today. The people at Mercury realised the change needed in the mid 2000s but it was too late to change. They tried to target younger luxury buyers but they were still selling big boats like the Mercury Grand Marquis. They didn't target who they needed and Ford pulled the plug in 2011.
Mercury used to be one of the absolute best brands around. I don't know why Ford is just letting it wither away like this. =/ Sable is gone, and now they're talking about killing off the Mountaineer and the Grand Marquis.
How much would a salvageable Sable Ford old Vulcan motor and bad battery 12 Taurus one used beater cost? Please, I want to buy one from North Carolina.
I haven't heard many good things about these later Sable models. I knew a guy who had an '08 Sable and it was a nightmare from the word "GO!" Then one night as fate would have it, he awoke to the sound of smoke detectors. As he proceeded downstairs, the smoke got thicker. Turns out the smoke was coming from his garage. The whole front end of the Mercury Sable was up in flames! Needless to say, the Sable was toast (LITERALLY,) and there was nearly $100,000 of damage done to his house! He never did find out exactly what started the fire but it was very clear that the fire started under the hood of the Sable. Given the amount of electrical issues he had with that car, he just assumed it was something electrical that sparked the fire. Interestingly enough, only a day or 2 before the fire, the stereo deck got very hot and shorted out. Coincidence??
Wow, that’s pretty scary and surprising. I’ve been told these late model Sables with the newer 3.5L V6 and 6 speed auto were bulletproof reliable… maybe he had a lemon, or a previously crashed vehicle? Who knows.
Problem with it was that it was an orphan brand... People who thought they wanted to get a luxury Ford might as well have saved up for a Lincoln. It wasn't selling.
I always liked these and the Taurus X but the 3.5 engine has the internal water pump design that all Fords with this engine have (and some Mazdas). It's a ticking time bomb and the main reason to stay far away from these.
I really miss Mercury. I always loved them. I had two Mercury Topaz cars. When I was a kid, my mum had an '83 Mercury Zephyr and before that she had a '78 Mercury Bobcat.
Except if the water pump goes out. It instantly goes into the motor and screws it up. And btw you can’t change the water pump unless you remove the engine. That’s what I just went through. Very sad. Loved the car before then . I will never buy another car that is a ford Or company under ford. They are not built to last.
It doesn't necessarily go into the motor and 99% of the time the water pump will leak for a while before failing. Generally it just stops working and the car starts to overheat. An expensive repair, but mine is at 111k and hasn't had an issue... The key is regular coolant changes with the newest motorcraft coolant formulation.@@garnersmith5349
zaeem99 and Ford decided to make a luxury version of the 6th gen Taurus(Ford Taurus Limited) instead of making a new Sable on that same platform for 2010. They also axed the Mountaineer after 2010 instead of making a new generation on the platform of the new Explorer, instead they made Limited and Platinum trims for the Explorer, and also, Mercury never made a Focus, Expedition, Excursion, or F150(but that would cannibalize the already failed Lincoln Blackwood/Mark LTs sales)
Beater with OHV 3.0 liters 20 overbored is a used car for parts with rotten tires How much? The air cooled beautiful Beetle in Mexico is worth $3,000.00 dollars but I will towed away the Sable SES or Ford Taurus driveable to my auto care car and garage Multi mobile and the ECM PCI computer chips are all dead in your engine bay in between 2000 to 2007 ad
knokcs have you ever driven one douce bag? It's actually a really nice car to drive and it''s very reliable. It has plenty of pickup, room, features, and decent gas mileage.
R u kidding I had a Ford Taurus X (the SUV version of this car) it's got a stupid looking obviously 2006 designed grille but I guarantee that car will eventually get to a million miles if whoever gets it changes the oil every 5-6k miles for the next 20 years

They could've just pulled a Buick and started making cars for the younger generation.
Get over it with buick! they are gm and All gm's suck. this Sable is almost exactly like a Lincoln without a doubt! Love, love, love this car!
Mercury used to be one of the absolute best brands around. I don't know why Ford is just letting it wither away like this. =/ Sable is gone, and now they're talking about killing off the Mountaineer and the Grand Marquis.
I just bought an 09 sable premier the same color as this one! I'm in love with the car!
Where is the distinctive light bar?
its actually more of a buick , Lincoln would be comparable to Cadillac .
The Mercury Sable is a cute car. The Ford Taurus?! No way! The Ford Taurus, that little copier of the poor and cute Mercury Sable!
They both is cute :)

The predecessor to the sable would be the grand marquis.
Colin Grubbs Yep 👍👍👍
I had a Montego and was r-ended and totaled. Very nice comfortable car and was very easy to see out of....
The ford 500 and Montego had unusually good viewing
Very good viewing area.

My parents have my final edition 2009. It has been a great car and still looks like new.
wish this brand was still around.
I currently drive a marquis just bought a sable
True but I was talking about pre lincoln times.
I like my 2006 mercury Milan premier it’s been a good Ford

I really want a sable.... they're dirt cheap on craigslist.

Well what about to 3.0 v6s with the aisan 6 speed trans?
@TheNewMrCool Yep mercury was the "caddilac" of the ford industry. But actualy mercury no longer exists.
I really miss Mercury. I always loved them. I had two Mercury Topaz cars. When I was a kid, my mum had an '83 Mercury Zephyr and before that she had a '78 Mercury Bobcat.
@@zephyr332 woah, I made that comment 8 years ago haha. But I like mercury too. My mom still has a mercury sable.
@@TheBobafett13 What year is her Sable?
@@zephyr332 2003. 3.0L
@@TheBobafett13 Okey dokey smokey.
Cons They rust and transmission not very reliable. Pros engine is very reliable, will last long time, similar to Toyota engines.

2010 ? :(
zaeem99 there was no 2010 due to the Mercury brand dissolving on January 4, 2011
