"You know what bothers me? There are women upon whom this works. And they're allowed to vote and drive cars." One of the best put-downs from the series, and flawlessly delivered.
I LOVED DIANE she was gorgeous and a perfect match for Sam, perfect. I did not like Kristy at all she was either, hollering, crying, pissing and moaning or acting like a spoiled child. To me Kristy was obnoxious. Diane brought spark, excitement, charm, intelligence, fun, up lifting banter that was so missed after she left. Diane brought pizzazz punctuated with a spirit and zest for life. The show was never the same when Kristy Alley came. Yes the zipper segment was funny but again it would have been hilarious with Diane. I do not see Diane in the reunion segments. Their seemed to be a dislike for her by one of the cast members after Diane left the show. My obvious guess is that it was jealously. We all wanted Diane and Sam to make it So sad that she left the show.
Kirstie Alley was fine in the role technically and I like her as an actress, such as in 'Wrath of Khan', her character Rebecca wasn't that interesting and lacked a good dynamic with Sam and the other characters.
Kirsty Alley never came close to filling her shoes - fortunately the consistent quality of the script and other established characters carried the show through
The last bit, where Sam keeps saying "please don't go", and then denying it. That's from the Narcissists gas-lighting handbook: How to manipulate your victims.
Sam wasn't a narcissist though, he was just a flawed individual. He could be quite selfless and kind at times and he did love Diane but wasn't always best at showing it.
@@renebeumers I never said otherweise. The writers didn't make him a narcissistic gaslighter, though. That is you projecting modern bugbears on to him IMO.
@@kyriakospentheides From day one, Sam was a babe hound. He thought of nothing but babes, since ball days, until Diane. His personal appearance was as important as the babes...his hair had to be perfect, his clothing immaculate, his cologne, overbearing, and you say, "not narcissistic". Sam was a poster-boy for the word, narcissist. Diane, was the female version. The writers most certainly did write in that light. Sam was vain, self-centered, egotistical, me-first at everything. Sam is the type that could walk into a bar and meet 10 people. The first nine shook hands, and were warm, but the 10th, wouldn't shake his hand, and didn't even want to meet Sam. He's the type that would ignore the nine nice people, and focus on the one, indifferent soul, for the remainder of his stay. Sam 'is', his world, and Sam is...his corvette/his bar/his hair/ his reputation/his conquests/his bar family.
@@justplainbrad7713 Well, he was pretty selfish at times and definitely a skirtchaser but he was at heart a pretty good guy too, which is why most people loved him at the bar.
"I want to show you something I've triumphed over." "Don't tell me you've finally mastered the stapler." I loved Diane's putdowns of Sam. She was the only one in the show who ever did that. All the other characters just enabled him and his cluelessness about his own serious flaws.
Shelley Long was an absolute doll. Complex character... masterfully done.
She was an absolute doll, pretty, funny and a great actress.

Superb line.
god that last scene...shot to my heart
My absolute favorite!!! Love the writing for her character
Agree....the chacter and writing makes the whole series
@@RoxyCakes it was her acting
Without Diane, the show suffered.
Cheers is a great 👍 time of reality that happens every day

Totally with you here.
I loved Sam and Diane.
Her name isn't Kristy!!!

Loved watching Kristen shows

OOooo, the video doesn't start with a ding ding ding.
she was so much better than Kirsty Alley,
Ted Danson and Christopher Lambert? They could be brothers for all I know!
Yeah
😂😊
Carla verbally abused her in every episode: that wasn't cool at all...
I agree. And the stupid writers seldom gave Diane a good comeback as opposed to the earlier seasons when she gave as good as she got.
If you’re from Alabama don’t vote for Doug Jones.
Very relevant. Doug Jones is a P.O.S though.
