  • From my "Star Wars: The Trilogy" series of edits. Video is edited from Adywan's "Star Wars: Revisited," audio is a combination of the 1977 theatrical mono mix restored by Belbucus, and a mono fold-down of Adywan's "Revisited" 5.1 audio where necessary.
    I'm cutting this on a laptop, so I don't have the best speakers with which to mix the audio, so I'd ask that anyone watching this PLEASE leave feedback about how the 5.1 and mono audio mix together. If it sounds too jarring, PLEASE let me know! And if you have any suggestions for how to fix it, I'd love to hear them!

    ...why did it take me this long to realise that when Luke hears Obi-Wan telling him to trust his feelings, he's not tapping the side of his helmet in a "think think think" gesture, he's tapping where his earpiece is because he isn't sure if he heard that voice over comms?

    To Start...Remember that Excitement that you felt when watching this for the first time as a kid?? You felt excitement, then anxiousness w/Gold Squad, then nervousness when part of Red Squad goes down, then you're on edge of your seat/holding hands (yourself...maybe others)........
    I FELT That Again, watching this!!!
    SERIOUSLY!! The starting background of Yavin floating behind them with the help of the newer fly-by (sun-glare off canopy). Then the seeing Many (30 {??}) X-/Y-wings "...cut across their axis to try to draw their fire!" @ 1:02. Still seeing many of Rebel ships breaking formation to their desig area of attack, watching their wingman's back, loosing some/winning some ships shot down....seeing Yavin fly-by a few more times.
    Just the more ACTION of planes!! And with this, the original action blended in....Excellent!!

    Wow, how have I never seen this?! The background was really busy with activity and the squadron of X-Wings and Y-Wings in the wide shot is amazing! The edits to show that Porkins got hit by turbolaser fire makes way more sense here. The shot of the TIE squadron was awesome too. More proof that the fans can to the films justice.

    He cleaned up the sound nicely. But what he ended up doing was clearing out distortion intentionally placed there (they played the audio through amateur radios.) Also, the line "Blast it wedge, where are you?" is "Blast it BIGGS." Biggs is Luke's wingman. Wedge just happened to save him. :)

    • @timonsolus
      @timonsolus 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, the Rebels deliberately had low quality comms to disguise their voices in case they got captured.

    • @trainbrain13
      @trainbrain13 2 роки тому +1

      @@timonsolus That could potentially be the case, but I think it's more just the fact that Star Wars is set "_A long time ago_ in a galaxy far, far away." The technology is meant to be incredibly advanced and yet still feel very primitive and crude at the same time, hence things like less-than-clear radio comms in the fighters for what is at this point just a relatively organized insurgency movement, space battles always being fought at such incredibly--even _uncomfortably_ --close ranges, most computer systems being relatively slow, crude, and very limited in capability, and so on. It's all part of the atmosphere of what makes Star Wars feel like Star Wars, it's a setting that you can immediately tell is expansive and diverse, yet deep and lived-in, and even though it has a lot of the objectively most advanced technology overall of any sci-fi universe, including faster-than-light travel that is more common, easier to obtain and use, and orders of magnitude faster than pretty much anything else, it feels like it's more or less the 1940s. Hell, even modern telecoms are rarely crystal clear, and military-issue radio equipment is always built by the lowest bidder, so the distortion is definitely an intended part of the experience. Even the Imperial radio comms are still a bit distorted, though to a lesser extent since they've got the budget and the incentive to have that higher-quality, concise communication as a galaxy-wide military dictatorship.

      The bigger the thing is, the bigger power it needs to move and the harder and longer it needs to stop.
      That being said, Death Star is capable moving from one solar system to other system in days, but it will require a large amount of energy to start moving and a considerable amount of time to slowing down and stop.
      In the battle of Yavin, the scene we see in this movie, in my opinion, is Death Star actually slowing down.

    • @TaterTot11
      @TaterTot11 3 роки тому +11

      @@Haux1975 Makes sense. The Mk. 1 Death Star had both sublight and hyperdrive engines. It would have a tremendous run up to lightspeed before the jump to hyperspace and an even greater slow down time. Tarkin probably had them drop out of hyperspace on the edge of the Yavin system and used inertia and RCS thrusters to guide the station into firing position, with minor adjustments to trajectory, whilst slowing to an effective firing velocity.

    I like it, after all we did see a decent number of fighters during the sequence of flying to the Death Star, so seeing a bunch more of them flying around seems accurate. Plus, it gives the sense of a big furball dogfight in space (which thematically goes back to Star Wars' basis in certain WWII flying movies).

    • @martinodoni8943
      @martinodoni8943 3 роки тому +5

      @@spencerfalzy In the original cinema release, Luke says, "Blast it, Wedge..." on the soundtrack. That old mono soundtrack sneaked into a fair few edits for TV during the 1980s, and I remember very distinctly hearing the line addressed to Wedge on a UK broadcast of the film on ITV in around 1984. (There was also a completely different actress performing the dubbed-on lines for Aunt Beru in the original cinema release track.)
      But the official VHS and DVD releases used the revised stereo track, in which the line is addressed to Biggs. Which version of the line was recorded first, we don't know. My views is that it seems likeliest that the 'Biggs' version was the original. It was changed over to Wedge when most of Biggs' scenes were cut from the running order of the movie, and he ceased to be any more prominent in the story than Wedge. (Plus Wedge survives the battle to appear in the subsequent episodes, and Biggs doesn't.) Therefore it made more sense for the line to be addressed to Wedge.

Way back in 1982 when Star Wars was first released on HBO I recorded it on a cassette player, audio only of course. VCRs were prohibitedly expensive! I wore that tape out and knew all the dialogue by heart! That is when I realized that the audio editors goofed or the lines were wrong when Luke refers to Biggs when an actuality it is Wedge who saves his skin

    This is great. Only thing to change is that shot where the TIEs are first flying in. They're moving way too slowly.

    I love it
    ... it seems a bit odd the moment the TIE Fighters appear en masse in one shot coming from the orbit of the gas giant and deep space. I would think they should be coming from another hemisphere of the Death Star. Even at a distance swarming dots of TIE Fighters coming across the horizon of the Death Star would be a terrifying sight to the Rebels.
    Perhaps that is not a action shot you can make happen with your resources and canned shots to modify.

  • @SmokeyBCN

    2:45 why would the TIEs be coming from deep space when they launched from the death star?

    I know this is a passion project, but some of the changes are better than the original!
    I think Luke knew Wedge was going to try to make it but was lashing out in disappointment that his friend made claim he would help but didn't. This after he also kind of stole a shot from Luke earlier. So, might not be a mess up. :)

    This scene makes it look like the rebels launched a surprise attack against the death star, but the opposite was true.

    • @PromixDelPiero
      @PromixDelPiero 3 роки тому

      It was a surprise attack, no one expected bunch of fighter put up an actual danger till the last moment

    • @randovids
      @randovids 3 роки тому

      When you launch an attack against the base of operations of an enemy that can launch fleets of ships, you should expect resistance. You'd think the death star would've launched all fighters and interceptors and had all crews at battlestations as soon as they came out of hyperspace. The movie shows people running around like they were all napping and just getting into the tie fighters after taking fire from the rebel strike force.

    One thing Adywan did was "Sweeten" the sound of the original mix, also rebuliding the mix. This means that there are higher frequencies present in his 5.1 than on the original.
    You'd need to rebalance the mono mix to sweeten it to match the amount he did so that the transitions will be less obvious.
