I want to thank you very much for making this video. Well done, great tutorial!!! I enjoyed watching the different stages of development to the end product, and what a gorgeous lion he is!!!
That is absolutely spectacular sir, too beautiful for words! It was wonderful to see it come to life. I'm 63, lady in Mpumalanga, South Africa and recently discovered making cement/concrete plant containers with fabric etc but still have a lot to learn, enjoying if very much. I love your lion, a real beauty thank you for sharing it 🦁🦁🦁.
You should put charcoal tint into your concrete mix that would give you a starter for your basecoat as well as get a Roto hammer and use it as a concrete vibrator. You can dip it down into the structure itself and pull a lot of those bubbles out on a smaller scale, but just like the big boys do. It did turn out nice although I am trying to figure what my first 3-D structure will be. Mostly concrete steppingstones you know the turtles paw prints blah blah blah but again nice work
I don’t know how I came on here without reading the heading...but I legitimately thought that was a mold of a giant mushroom... so imagine my surprise when it came out as a lion.... no more eating stuff out of cows poop for me.. no more!! Beautiful results!!!
Really awesome statue. Well done! You've got a lot of talent and good taste. I want to make something now... I can't sculpt on that level, but my dad was an amazing figure sculptor so maybe it's time for me to finally learn... at forty years of age haha
@@jacobmarley2417 Most of these are made from a piece that's already been made, I go to yard sales and second hand stores to find things to mold once you have found what you want to mold then liquid latex is applied in layers to make a thick mold, depending on the size of the piece you are replicating depends on the amount of latex you would have to use for rigidity and to prevent expanding from the weight of the cement, as to why he also surrounds the mold in sand to prevent expansion in the mold, for a piece of this size you would end up doing in the range of 40 or more layers which is time consuming as to you have to dry each layer before applying the next using a hair dryer or something of the sort. There are other options to making molds however latex is one of the more cost efficient ways of doing so.
Love how the video says “Start to finish” and the 1st step is to have a premade mold. This is what “Start to finish” in concrete for me is: Make a block of concrete and actually carve the thing.
good luck carving concrete, lol. most people would just use specialized concrete as a sculpting medium and build it up. then, they'd make a mould of it and sell the mould for hundreds of dollars.
Beautiful. Thank you. Can anyone recommend a company where the molds are not to expensive please? Also a good place for life size statue molds of replicas from around the world, palaces please? Thank you!

@@x-webman How much does the mold cost? If it's only a few bucks more then its probably worth just buying a finished lion statue itself. But nonetheless, really good job!
@@Gaba-oo4qb moulds with this much detail and size looks to average between $2-300 on ebay. that sounds like a lot for something you might get, let's say 50-100 pulls out of (maybe far fewer for all i know), but latex is expensive and you'd obviously buy a mould to make things to sell. small moulds look to be in the $50 range.
I cannot even begin to imagine what a mould of this calibre would cost in Canada. I would love to include locally made statues in my farmers market stall, but the costs are as big an investment as the livestock are for a small business start up.
