According to IMF projections, India and Indonesia are expected to be the fastest-growing economies among the top 20 in 2023 and the next five years. These Asian powerhouses, with a collective population of 1.7 billion, are currently among the fastest-growing economies in the world. In this video, we will take a closer look at these rising powers in the global economy and their race to the top.
India, with its massive population and rapidly developing infrastructure, has emerged as a major player in the global economy. Its manufacturing sector, which includes industries such as automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and IT services, has grown significantly in recent years. Similarly, Indonesia has made significant strides in its manufacturing and infrastructure sectors. The country has become a major exporter of textiles, palm oil, and electronics, among other products.

I think Indonesia has advantage in logistics. They are closer to developed economies of East Asia. Their transport system will be based on Water, much better than India's land based transport. But India has advantage in population. A lot more workforce. Also currently better in digital infrastructure and IT.
Edit: sorry, guys. I was wrong. According to Indonesian people, it's much harder for them to build infrastructure due to mountains and forests and combined with being lots of islands.

Indonesian doesn't even have a good ship-base ecosystems like shipping and/or ship making companies yet, we still relly on foreign country/company for that. A good local ship-making company is a military one, and a good shipping company is a ferry-focused company one, and all that is state owned. But yes there's still big opportunity and advantages.

All big cities are always near the coast, so I thought Indonesia will have a lot of opportunities. But looking up about logistics index, India(38th rank) seems to do better than Indonesia(63rd). Maybe last mile connectivity is low in Indonesia? Nevertheless we were at similar rank Indonesia (53rd), India(54th) in 2014, but after that govt focused a lot on infrastructure and other logistics issues.
Population can be a double edged sword tho. Have to invest in human capital, else they only become a burden than a blessing

Yeah because India is one of the first countries that recognize Indonesia's independence, and since then Indonesia always keep a good relation with India.
Plus, Indonesia in general hold the value of free-and-active international policy. Which mean, Indonesia will try as much as possible be active and not interferencing other country internal affair.

Dont forget .. Indonesia still has one potential sectors to boost economy growth : TOURISM SECTOR. Indonesia has many beautiful place for tourism, not only Bali. Nowadays , government concern on 5 top priority destination : Lake Toba, Mandalika, Borobudur, Likupang and Labuan Bajo. Tourism sector can provide benefits higher than oil and mining sectors in the future.

@@JitzyJT Probably because of how spread out Indonesia is. You have over 17,000 islands and the government doesn't have much to spend to begin with so for a long time their investment in tourism was mainly focused on Bali, especially given how close it is to Java. Thing do seem to be changing though, partially as a response to overcrowding in Bali and partially due to Indonesia's desire to be less centralized (they also plan to move their capital from Jakarta to the Island of Borneo)
Bali works because their culture, rooted in ancient Indonesian culture. I don’t know about other islands, but Islamic cultures won’t attract many tourists. Especially non-Muslim women, they’ll feel uncomfortable if it’s too conservative.

Indonesia and India have different strategy to grow their economy. While Indonesia has many natural resources, India has larger population and service based economic sectors. If both countries managed to be industrialized nation, I am imagining Indonesia will be like Australia or New Zealand with raw material exports based economy while India will be like UK with service based exports economy.

@@matrix7034 so... I fact checking it again, apparently there is already a regulation back in 2014 that forced the mining company to build their own smelter until 2017 if they still want to export their products. however, the nickel ore export never actually banned until January 2020.
as of the banning of processed nickel export, as Indonesian I never heard of that so I don't think that is true. all I know is basically the government still want the natural resources to be exported but not as raw materials, banning the processed nickel export is completely inconsistent with the 2014 regulation

Dude didn't even talked about enormous advantage Indonesia has in terms if its unique geographical position in the region. If Indonesia can manage to scale its manufacturing... its gonna be huge. India's advantage is its huge population and disadvantage is that its stuck between hostile neighbours in China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and an unstable Myanmar, relationship with Nepal and Srilanka also run hot and cold. With peace in the region and right policies, both countries will be major global powers and bring balance in the region.

Conflict is what's keeping South Asia down. Draining and diverting resources to oversized militaries which could have been used in other places.
South East Asia has done better in this case of integrating themselves economically and avoiding conflict.
