Pluralism and the idea of 'let and let live'', while embracing and accepitng all beliefs, and ideas in the marketplace of ideas, be it religious, spiritual social or political, (so long as no harm is done to others), has alwasy been the core foundation of indian/hindu culture, philosophy and spirituality. To say that being a hindu nation is a threat to democracy and pluralism, is like saying that being a democratic pluralist nation, is a threat to democracy and pluralism!
FYI, Hindu is a geographical term synonymous with the word indian. Hind is the persian word for india, and the word india is the greek and later british word for india. To say that its disadvantageous for india to become a hindu nation, is like saying, its disadvantageous for india to be indian nation!
You wouldnt say that its problematic for france to be a french nation or russia to be a russian nation! So why is it a problem for india to be an indian nation?? Why shouldnt a nation be true to its own indigenous native culture and heritage? It makes no sense, and highleghts a deep lack of understanding among westerners, who too often see everything through their own hegemonic and assumed universalistic paradigm.
India is already a hindu nation, and does not fit into the western paradigm of the 20th century construct of a nation state. It is a civilisational state and its native hindu/indian culture is synonymous with pluralism and democracy. For thousands of years, this civilisation was practicing pluralism as naturally as breathing, before the rest of the world even had a concept of pluralism and acceptance of others.
It is precisely because of its native hindu/indian culture that, India has been a sanctuary for persecuted minorities for thousands of years. When christianity and islam spread across the globe, and middle eastern and european colonial expansion under these two religion, drove many people and cultures to extinction, it was to India that a few persecuted minorities such as jews and zoroastrians for example, were able to turn for sanctuary. India is the only place on earth where jews were never pogrommed.
Even the idea of a relgion called 'hinduism' is a colonial construct imposed on our ethnic indigenous spiritual culture, just because colonisers could not fathom a culture that seamlessly incorporated spirituality into its civilisational identity, and was so diverse, complex and organic, that it did not fit into the judao christian framework. While all abrahamic religions derived their culture and identity from their relgiion, we derived our spirituality from our culture.
'Hindusim' is not a religion in the same sense as western abrahamic concepts of religion. What people refer to as 'hinduism' today, is basically an umbrella term for our civilisational marketplace of ideas, where countless philosphies have been debated and distilled over many millennia, and under which, spirituality or religion, in all its myriad diverse forms and expressions, is but one aspect, of the many different forms of ideas in our native pluralist framework, since time immemorial.

@@revivehinduglry5176 In 1750, India had 23% of the world's GDP because it had 25% of the world's population. However, Britain was already a wealthy country even before it colonized India. If we look at the per-capita income of India and Britain in the 1750s, Britain's per-capita income was three times that of India, and India's per-capita income had been declining for a century before Britain won the Battle of Plassey. Comparing the total GDP of India and Britain in the 1750s to argue that India was richer than Britain is like saying that Uttar Pradesh is richer than Goa today. Later, the Industrial Revolution occurred in the Western world after the Scientific Revolution, with the invention of machines and technologies like the steam engine, and their wealth increased exponentially. Meanwhile, India's global share of GDP dropped to 4% in 1950. The same thing happened in China, which was not directly colonized. In fact, China's per-capita income was even lower than India's at the time of independence. During the 1750s, China's per-capita income was higher than India's. Therefore, if we say that Asian countries are poorer because of colonization, then what happened to countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia, which were not colonized? It's worth noting that Nepal has a similar history and culture to India, yet it is the poorest country in Asia. The fact that Nepal was not colonized by the British undermines the argument that colonization is solely responsible for a country's level of poverty.

One more correction. The attempts by the Narendra Modi govt. to transform India into a Hindu state does not necessarily be as bad as one would contemplate in the West... India never had the concept of religious exclusivity that the western world had. Meaning "A person can still be a Hindu while being a Muslim". Hinduism is more about culture and way of life rather than strict adherence to a book... In other words "the soul of this country is Hindu though it's inhabitants can follow any religion in their personal space". And that's what PM Modi is trying to emphasize... Does not mean India would trample other religions

I don't think India is becoming a Hindu state. Yes, the government is reclaiming India's lost ancient civilization and culture, but that is not turning India into Hindu state. India already is a Hindu country. The word India is itself a grecian pronounciation of the word Hind, which is the root syllable of the word Hindu. All Narendra Modi is doing is re-developing a sense of pride among Indians, who even might have converted to other religions or not, for their Hindu roots.

Excellent report. But Hindu rashtra will never be a hinderance. Hindus were the one who invented "Zero", geometry, arithmetic, yoga, meditation, ayurveda and countless others. It was Hindu rashtra that gave asylum to Zoroastrian people from Persia who are now owners of Tata , Gogrej , Wadia etc. It was due to Hindu rashtra that antisemitism never existed in India. It was Hindu consciousness that gave asylum to Dalai Lama and millions of Tibetans. It is Hindu consciousness that gives equal right to every religion. It is due to Hindu consciousness that democracy exists in India. So Hindu rastra is the future of India and not a hindrance as it existed for over 7000 years and will remain forever. This does make Indian civilization the oldest. These were the earliest beginnings of humans in their civilizational ethos. We are beginning to learn the real history of India. It is not Mughals and British invaders alone. They were many more Hindu empires which extended beyond Afghanistan.
The British and elite congress men of India distorted India’s history.Do u think non-violence was the reason for gaining independence? There was many massacres done by colonial British, so non violence is not a big deal for them.
Don’t read the books which has west perception about India. Most of the books are not true.
Modiji is successful because he is the only PM who really know the essence of Indian society and he only can connect to people.
Before invasions, India’s GDP was 25..So it is very clear that our Hindu culture and civilisation holds key to our economic model and solutions for the world problems.
The religion and economic model of west was exploitive in nature and disaster to the environment. For example, Christian and Muslim doesn’t believe in rebirth. So they taught people to enjoy and exploit the resources for themselves.
But in Hinduism, we believe that nature is god and we consider earth as our mother. So before digging the earth for any construction, we ask for mother’s earth blessing and forgiveness.
In Hinduism, we believe in rebirth.we aspire to protect and preserve our nature ,so that our grand children and great great grand children can use them.
Democracy is imbibed in our civilisation and Hindu culture.Kings always decide and act accordingly to his people..Kings always put their subjects first.
India is not union of states.Indians were united before due to its Hindu culture.
Russia understands Indian than USA. Russia understands the essence of Indian society but USA and UK can become a close ally to our country and Indians unless they shed out their colonial mentality and egotistical mindset and have to read the real books that shows the essence of Indian society.
The question is will they do it??? I don’t see this happening now.. western policies are failing. They have to accept this first to open their mind to real solutions of the world. Still the west is condescending on India..God save the world!!!

Dark ages was only in the west but not in India. USA started its nation on a clean slate.Massacres were common when Christianity was spreading in the west.So the west imposed dark ages on India. But they forgot that we most of the Indians are still rooted to our Hindu culture and we want to revive the true essence of Hindu culture.
All are free to follow their own beliefs but they should not forget their Hindu roots and our culture.Thank god Modiji is our PM now and he has the knowledge about our ancient scriptures. We will neither follow capitalism nor communism .we will follow sanatani economic model which will be the solution to many problems.

India is growing and will grow because of Modi and not despite him. His core reforms are far-reaching and has given a platform that will enable the young generation to realize their potential.
The optimism within the country is viral right now will continue doing so.
As far as English is concerned, it has managed to establish it's hegemony for close to a century now. This is not that impressive historically. But, with the decline of US and the dismal condition of Britain, it will cease to exist. Don't be surprised if Chinese or any other language becomes the lingua franca. It's a function of time.

Also, remittances received from foreign countries are about $100 billion of. $3.3 trillion economy and exports of $770B. So the remittances are not a big deal The Indian economy runs primarily in internal consumption unlike China which runs on exports.
We need the dollars to buy oil & gold our 2 big imports.

The person with limited mind and intellect will always admire one person but criticize others as his mind or brain has not developed enough to understand both approaches. wonder why the press uses 'Hindu Nationalist' as though its a bad word. Lets change that to "Christian Nationalist" - doesnt sound bad. "Jewish nationalist" - neither does it sound bad for israel, its no more than a description of that nation, although Israel was recolonised by Jewish, the Hindus were never displaced from their homeland.. Every European country like Spain France etc, have crosses on every traffic island in the countryside, and Catholicism pervades every aspect of their life. So what if Hindu (Sanathan Dharma) pervades Indian public space and mindspace and owns it. A Kumbha mela or countless other gatherings show that. Indian public space is Hindu mental space, and the ethos is profoundly Hindu, you cant get away from that, its always been that way, becuase India is the Hindu birthplace. But that doesnt mean it is threatening to others like it doesnt in Catholic nations of today.

Hindi unites people. Amit Shah didn't imposed Hindi on Southern Indian people. He just said that don't impose an English on Hindi, because southern India politics is based on hipocracy. They don't want to accept Indian Hindi language but want to impose an English who doesn't know local language. Where's the pride when someone North Indians speak in an English with you in your own country state. First south Indians should accept that they are the part of Indian rather than fighting for their language in hippocrate manner.

This whole farce is created by Tamil politicians which later spread in most of the south Indian State. The separation poltics is used to get elected just like North India has caste issue created by politicians for short term gains. There is no north state with Hindi as there mother tongue bihar it self has Five language biharis used Hindi as a common language. Afganistan to Burma Hindi is used as a common language. Even they have their own tongue. India needs to have a Common language which has to be indian. Hindi is right language because it easily understood from Afghanistan to Myanmar.

Education of a technological kind and basic life skills has to grow much faster- maybe digitilisation will accelerate the process.India was in the forefront of making and distributing Covid vaccines. Also touchingly it despatched it's doctors to other countries most notably Italy during the Covid epedimic where sadly a number of Indian doctors were infected and died.

It's an important nuance to the history of language in India and I appreciate you shedding light on this lesser-known fact.

I don't agree with what you said: "Modi trying to make India a Hindu nation". It is a Hindu-majority nation which is why it is a secular country. And even if India becomes a Hindu nation it makes no difference, because it is Hindus who open-heartedly accepted this nation to be called secular. So it doesn't matter if you call it a secular or Hindu nation, nothing is going to change.

This is another reason and a major reason of its soft power allowing success in other fields.

There's mention of Janapadas and mahajanapadas in India around 2500-2700 yrs. back.
These were democratic as the general public would select their administrator and governer and they had the right to overthrow the current leader if they are corrupt and change them with a more trustworthy one.
So claiming that democracy is actually ingrained in our DNA would NOT be an exaggeration.

It HAS ALWAYS BEEN a Hindu State.

And by being a Hindu State we want to preserve this ancient nature of India forever. We are against Abrahamic idea of the One God. We believe that all Gods are equal.

India is sitting on the greatest treasure of human resource ( 1.4 billion people that too 50% below 30 yrs w/ increasing expertise in STEM, hardworking, ambitious & smart ). If we don't utilize it at it's full potential in this decade & next two to come, it'll be a huge missed opportunity in building a nation w/ high standard of living that offers tons of diverse cultures, food, languages, festivals, etc w/ state of the art modern technology something India didn't have for a very long time.
