    Late Congrats Larry!!! Almost to 50K now. Yeah!!! Rapido makes a nice electro-magnetic unit as well. I also call your "Zip Cord", speaker wire. Lol.... It's good stuff.

    I’m glad you showed the installation of the suitcase connector on the speaker wire, I always wondered how it would be because the insulation on the speaker wire is so much larger than the regular wire. Thank you and congratulations on 40,000 subscribers, you deserve them because of the quality of your videos.

    I use the Rapido Uncoupler as well. They have a built in LED you can use to align. I added a flashing led trackside instead to alert that the Uncoupler is active and where to stop

    The 16 volt power bus is a good place to start! The buck converters can also be used to reduce the voltages to 5, 3 and 1.5 volts or whatever. The price is right and I can place one where ever I need one. The DC power bus has really been very useful on my DCC layout. Thanks for the great video!

    Great idea with the buck board Larry! Makes it a lot easier than running 2 power lines. Also congratulations on 40k subscribers!

    I use a buckboard to reduce 12V to 3V to power 3V LEDs without worrying about resistors. It's really useful if you have a lot of LEDs in one area.

    Larry, I recommend the Rapido uncoupler. It isn't an electromagnet, it uses a permanent magnet which is turned either along the rails (on) or across them (off). That means it does not have a limited operating period, unlike an electromagnet. It is easier to install than the Kadee and a bit cheaper.

    KD 708 HOn3 unite will work for N-scale

    Larry I know you probably get of people like me asking you questions that you may have already covered; in the last episode you said that AC could be used as long as it was converent to DC use a bridge rectifier my question is what would you need if you was to use DCC from a momentary accessory decoder like those that are used to control turnout motors; are would the output from those decoder be DC?
    Another question do you think that a H0n3 electro uncoupler would work for TT gauge?

    • @TheDCCGuy
      @TheDCCGuy  Рік тому

      Last question first. Another viewer commented that the HOn3 one works for N scale so it might be OK for TT too. Check the measurements on the KD website to see how it compares to TT track dimensions.
      Now the first question. As I have shown in previous videos you can rectify DCC to get DC and without looking at every possible accessory decoder I will say they generally produce DC output to control turnout motors, BUT it depends on the accessory decoder and what it was designed for. You also need to be aware of the current draw of the device you want to power. The KD electromagnets pull at least 3 amps so would not be a good match for most if not all accessory decoders. So as I say it all depends on the accessory decoder and the device to be powered.

    Hi Larry, a quick question you or your viewers might be able to help me with. I’m planning a layout with two tracks in a run around (tale chaser). It’s about 7m x 3m, so about 20m (60ft) in circumference. I’m use DCC for the tracks. But I think I’ll use a CDU to power the 40 or so seep point motors. It’s Old school I know but it’s quicker and cheaper.
    Q1. If the wires are big enough, will only one or two CDU do the job ?
    Q2. If I want to build a mimic board, the push buttons on it are a long way away from the furtherest point motor 10m (30ft). Due to voltage drop, Is this a problem ?
    Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated. Thanks, Alan

    • @TheDCCGuy
      @TheDCCGuy  Рік тому

      In both cases it depends on the size of the wires, amperage, and design of the devices being powered. Too many unknowns to answer your question.

    Will the KD uncoupler work with N scale?

    • @TheDCCGuy
      @TheDCCGuy  Рік тому

      A viewer in an earlier comment said that the HOn3 version will work with N scale but I have no way to confirm that. You may be able tog et the dimensions of that version in the KD website and see if it will fit the N scale track spacing. Also the Rapido electromagnet may work as well, worth a look to see.
