June 15, 1986, Amnesty International's, 'A Conspiracy of Hope Tour', from Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ. I was there. I spent four-and-a-half hours on the phone before I got through and bought four tickets. My friends and I had a great time. 😊🎸🎹🎤🇺🇸
At this age his voice was at its peak perfection. Clear crying growl with all that emotion "Red Rain falling over me in a red red sea, Red Rain!!!!!! Peter is my favorite vocalist ever!
I believe this is my #1 favourite of Peter Gabriel’s songs. Excellent! ❤️ Red Rain, is coming down, falling down all over me. This song is by me considered epic & immortally imprinted in the music world.
What a freaking master and master piece! Forever grateful for having my father introduced me to what real music and artists are. Im 26 but this guy right here is my absolute idol, along with Phil Collins. I had the unbelievable fortune of being able to see him live in summer 2016 in San Jose, CA. To this day, I still cannot get my head around the fact that it actually happened. Listening to his music is one of my biggest pleasures in life. Thank you, sir!
You are so right about Sirs Peter and Phil. Clearly, dear Ms. Ade, you were raised well to be so cognizant of these iconic greats. My compliments to your parents.
I like Peter Gabriel and his music. I especially like the "So" album and also his self-titled albums. He should be given more accolades/awards for his music, because he is a very creative musician/artist. :)
Check out Red Rain live in Buenos Aires, Argentina October 15, 1988 Amnesty International. Same arrangement with Manu Katché but a little faster. Darryl Jones on bass & David Sancious on keyboards!...
As wonderful as this is, with Peter Gabriel, you always know the best is yet to come! What an amazing individual, man, creator, musician, humanitarian!
i was a teen in the 80s. was not digging most mainstream music early to late 80s but loved a few acts like Peter, Prince, MJ, Phil, Police, Dire, ACDC, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, etc...
I was there in the front row. The worst part of the entire day was having to endure over an hour of Bob Dylan in order to see Gabriel. If there were a really tall person around that I could've hung myself from I probably would have
I had a conversation with a friend about Peter's music. He said he liked it but he just didn't GET it. "I mean, what's he talking about... "Red Rain?" I told him - acid rain. Then I saw the lightbulb switch on and he was laike, "... that's totally brilliant!" Yup. That's Peter.
Avec plaisir! Manu Katché a un son magnifique, son jeu est explosif, inventif et puissant et les lignes de basse de Tony Levin sont inattendues, originales, percussives, précises. Bref, tout est simplement grandiose! 🤗 Cordialement...
Many people don't remember, but acid rain was a serious environmental problem in the 1980s. "Fall on Me" by R.E.M. is also about this issue. Musicians called attention to it.
It sounds somewhat disjointed, but I guess at that point they hadn't quite figured out how to do this song live, with all its intertwined polyrythmic elements and what not (the So tour kicked off in the late autumn of '86).
What you see and of course HEAR is a complete Desaster. Every Musician who's playing live, probably knows this . A big stage , no inear monitoring back then, some floor monitors . A Sequence theme is coming from the Drum Machine. The drummer can't really hear it without Headphones. Ok thats a little bit out of sync. Peter is pointing to the drummer ( 0:48 ) then looking around for help( searching the stage mixer ? ) But the horror begins when the Guitar plays his theme with a special delay Effect. Now everythings out of control. ( 1:06)Peter is trying his best , but then his voice collapses ( 2:29 ) . After 2 Minutes and 45 Seconds it seems to get better.
The cars had a similar issue at the other concert when performing drive. Electing to use live sequencing vs backing tapes has its limitations and advantages.
I saw him in Oakland in either 87 or 88. He was doing the So album. great show. Who is the bass player for this? It looks like the bass player from the fixx?
Is that David Rhodes on guitar WITH LONG HAIR? Does Manu Katché even gets old? he's been looking the same for ages. I hope that bassis is not Tony Levin, it will blow my mind. Even though I find very valuable he keep the same musicians today, they are a team!!!
@@drwheycooler8423 thanks God that is not Levin, he doesn't look like him at all. The thing is, he did participate in So album, is weird that he didn't make it to that tour
Maybe recording Momentary Lapse with Pink Floyd? By the time the So tour really kicked off 5 months later (I was at the 6th show, which was in Detroit), Tony was back. :)
I would hope this would be for the ukrainians and the survivals and the Patriots and any merchant that might come and help the needy a concert at least for peace on Earth and good for the victims of genocide.

I was there....it was raining while he sang it...just a brief shower - one of the most amazing moments ever for me at any concert!
The day I was born)
Wow. Wow. Blessings! Great Thanks for sharing with us. We need another "Conspiracy of Hope Tour"! ...
I was there as well! It was the best! So many talented musicians. Still have the program. Peter Gabriel was incredible! 🎼🎸🎤🥁🎹❤️
Knew the venue looked familiar.
At this age his voice was at its peak perfection. Clear crying growl with all that emotion "Red Rain falling over me in a red red sea, Red Rain!!!!!! Peter is my favorite vocalist ever!
Yeah, one of the greatest!...
wha? He was dying on those high notes lol
Packing stadiums 40 years ago and ever since. Plan on finally seeing him in NYC this year!!!!
I believe this is my #1 favourite of Peter Gabriel’s songs. Excellent! ❤️ Red Rain, is coming down, falling down all over me. This song is by me considered epic & immortally imprinted in the music world.
What about 'Don't give up'? Saved a few lives in it's time, including mine. Have a listen
Cannot stop listening to it. Masterpiece. Will never get tired of it.
Mr Katche absolutely ice cold AF with those beats
What a performance, what a drummer!
The one and only Manu Katché.
Manu really is fantastic.
He and Tony stand out so much with their perfection on this.
I love this track Peter Gabriel is captivating ❤very handsome
❤❤❤❤
The all time master at one of his many peaks. Also, no one wore shoulder pads better than him...
Shoulder pads😂

No, this man is better than Phil!...

Manu Katche, what a performance. Peter Gabriel is the best.
Still had a touch of Genesis in him!
Gabriel, the best of all time.
Didn't expect to see you here! And yeah, I totally agree. Gabriel is one of my all-time favorite songwriters and singers.
Along with David Sylvian!...
Mi canción favorita! Saludos desde Argentina 😊
So old and so fresh red rain is over me, thank you

The man is a Genius!...
I've had always loved this version. The drums and the sequence behind it sound amazing.
The sequence is louder than the drums. Manu needs to be brought up in the mix considerably
@@garthgundy maybe a little bit...

The snare is way to loud here. It was probably fine out front.
MANU!!!🥁
KATCHE ;)
Great drummer!....
Interestingly enough, he actually didn't play on this specific song on the album.
He's just so close to stealing the entire perfomance. I love it.
@@cs20m He did play Red Rain on the So album!....
Laughing at all the negative comments about Manu Katche. One of THE all-time greats.
Yeah, they're nuts!....
Have you read through the comments?
I can't imagine making fun of his drumming.
He's incredible.

A Genius in top form!...
He's an amazing person.
This choked me up and almost made me cry. Again.
My Favorite PG Song...!!! Even though he has so many I love...!?!
è sempre bella bella bella non mi stanco mai di ascoltarla RED RAIN COMING DOWN...
Over me in the red, red sea....
Those eyes, I have met those eyes in another life I swear it.
Elizabeth Law I swear I feel it too!
Sometimes I think in the same... Who knows Peter could be an Angel...?
It's yourself you see!
Toujours magique avec Peter GABRIEL
I believe this was the amnesty concert when I was in high school 😂. Wow

😂😂😂
Love Bob Dylan, but his voice is a bit Hmmm lol
Sorry that you had to endure Dylan (😄😄😄) but at least you had the chance to see the live version of the awesome song by PG .
Best
Manu! Holy shit!
Awesome!! Those shoulder pads are only reason someone might give it a thumbs down!
Thanks

The story is a little bit more complicated than that...
It’s not about acid rain. It was inspired by a dream he had, and is about the catastrophic effects of holding emotions in. He’s said so many times.
Peter Gabriel solo, blows away all the Genesis stuff that came after him. Brilliant performer and never went for the BIG HITS.
Pure Pern
j'adore cette version live de Peter Gabriel, je ne sais pas si c'est la basse ou quoi mais c'est génial

Nice, what a long time ago...
Interesting fact - Peter Weller listened to this on his Walkman when filming the cocaine factory shootout in Robocop.
DAMN!!!!Thank You....I can believe it,though😮😅
his BIKO song is a true stand out alaround south africa theme
Back when he was looking great .
Love the mess up by the drummer around 2:05 and Peter Gabriel’s reaction 😂
It sounds somewhat disjointed, but I guess at that point they hadn't quite figured out how to do this song live, with all its intertwined polyrythmic elements and what not (the So tour kicked off in the late autumn of '86).
Yeah, the drums are out of synch during the verses for some reason. I think it's because Manu isn't playing to a click but the sequencer obviously is.
Where was this? When?
Amnesty International - Giants Stadium 1986
appropriate song considering chernobyl fallout happened around that time
Red rain refers to the genocide in Africa.
No, no it doesn't... Where do people come up with these ideas??@@andymurray8083

Amnesty International - Giants Stadium 1986
makissoflife - Thanks for the info.
You're welcome.
This is one shotty performance, wonder if he fired the sound engineers.
Although you can see he's clearly upset about the programming not working properly, he still goes on with it.
I think it’s Larry Klein, Joni Mitchell’s husband (at the time)!
The guitarist looks like a Die Hard villian
Is that a Yamaha cp-80?
JoeJoe yep, and a Prophet V on top of it.
I love the Yamaha cp-80 so much. such a punchy sound
looks like he's rehearsing in an empty stadium... no stress😂😂
Weird not to have Tony Levin on bass! I'm guessing that's Larry Klein?
I miss him too
yep, that's Larry.

Yes, where is Tony?
Larry Klein, TL may have been recording A Momentary Lapse of Reason with David Gilmore at the time.
Manu Katche, enough said

Manu played Pearl kits?

Juan Manuel Santeiro your right its Giants Stadium
Breaking free from genesis is the best thing he could of done.
