    Dude, you did this car just right. Perfect exterior and interior colors, no stupid steering wheels controls, no dopey wing on the rear deck and a real manual transmission instead of the automatic PDK nonsense. Now this is how a Porsche is supposed to be configured. Congrats.

    Thanks for the overview! I love the base 911 and I'm considering purchasing a Carrera T at some point. Most people don't realize that the base 911 engine is actually the most responsive engine in the entire 911 lineup because the turbos are smaller and spin up faster. When you step up to the Carrera S and beyond, there is a bit of turbo lag because they use larger turbos, and you don't get that with the base engine. Of course the cars with larger turbos are faster, but the base car is more engaging and feels more like it's naturally aspirated than any other turbo 911, and that's what most driving enthusiasts prefer.The Carrera T with a manual transmission and sport exhaust is THE 911 to get, in my opinion.

    Great Car and brilliantly optioned. When I optioned my 2012 991, I chose Racing Yellow with beige full leather with the base car. But I got a pdk with sports chrono option and all of the handling options along with launch control. My 359 horse power car won't move as fast as yours. I also optioned factory spacers with my 20 inch Carrera Wheels. Crucial to have the wheel alignment checked from time to time to keep cornering at its maximum. My gas mileage on that 2012 is similar to yours. On one stretch on a trip, I managed 30.8 miles per gallon with my 3.4 NA engine. I put a CAT back exhaust on mine with four tail pipe exits. A little less weight and a little more power if you take it to higher revs and a little less gas mileage if you drive it sporty or hard. Maybe a lot less gas mileage. But, at 65-70 miles per hour with the cat back, I still get the same 30+ miles per gallon, despite some of the reports on mileage. And my car weighs about 3160 Lbs. I have the 18-way power seats. Your seats saved pounds, the main reason for getting the most basic seats. I only use three ways on my 18 way seats. Finally, I like the look of your car. None of the vents or wings you don't need, but the classic shape of the car. That is the same reason I bought and optioned my 991 in January of 2012.

      W-James I’ve been driving Porsches for more than 40 years and all of them have been manuals. If I was still tracking cars, I’d have the PDK but it’s hard for me to switch to the auto box since I’ve been driving manuals so long. Both transmissions are fabulous and I’d never tell someone to get the manual unless they really wanted to feel more in touch with the car’s operation. For me, I’m just more comfortable with the stick shift. Thanks for watching.

    Great looking car. Your thought process in considering the base Carrera over the S model was similar to mine. Since I’m not a track guy I felt the base model with 370 hp was sufficient for my needs. I decided to spend the extra money on options like the full leather red and black interior which goes well with the white exterior color. If I ever decide I need more power, Techart has a power kit which will add an additional 60 hp for around $6k.

    The only thing i would add would be the window trims in aluminium. I have it on my car and it makes the roof and pillars look slimmer. Unfortunately India spec cars come with pdk and glass sunroof standard so i couldn't delete those and spend on leather because I had to stay in budget. I did opt for Miami Blue instead of getting PDCC though. Mine is an S with standard wheels and standard interior in black, front axle lift and rear axle steering, sports exhaust and chrono.

    I just came across your video, a real drivers car, I also see sunroof delete, very nicely spec. I have a 991.1 manual C4S in Mexico Blue and love it! I really have a thing for the Porsche blues, Mexico, Riviera, Voodoo, Club Blau and now Miami which I suppose Porsche now offers because of the frustration of many trying to get a " Paint To Sample" allocation, I know I tried and could not get an allocation. I also see you are into 1911's which is ironic since I sell 1911 parts mostly, I enjoyed your video an envy that you are retired and enjoying your car and life, congratulations!

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  6 років тому +1

      Rene' Cortez Thanks for the nice comment. I think you’re absolutely correct about the PTS program since there are now many folks willing to pay the extra $7-8K for those paint colors. It definitely slows down Porsche’s build program and I think they’d probably like to discontinue PTS. So, every so often, they add one of the special colors into the third tier of paint choices hoping that people will stay with the standard choices.

    The Miami Blue paint is really nice, but to be frank, how can Porsche justify the steep price of the optional paint colour?

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  5 років тому +1

      msbrownbeast Actually, their paint prices are less than an excellent independent paint shop........their charges are approx. $10k. I just look at it like I don’t have to pay anything extra if I stay with the four basic colors, or $700+ for a metallic, and $3k for the four upper-end colors. Beyond that, the paint-to-sample colors are definitely a bunch of money. But, I don’t order those. My Miami Blue color was an extra $3k. In my opinion, well worth the money for a relatively distinctive color.

    • @msbrownbeast
      @msbrownbeast 5 років тому

      Yes, you are absolutely correct that the factory price of 3k is less than the 10k at a paint shop. But you forget to mention that the 3K for the Miami Blue at the factory is the incremental price, and not a repaint job at an outside shop. The 4 basic colors require the same amount of preparation and work as for the Miami Blue, so the 3K that Porsche charges is just for the paint itself.

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  5 років тому

      msbrownbeast Actually, I explained the different incremental prices quite well. You must have missed that point which I’ve mentioned in other videos, as well. And, considering the fact that Porsche doesn’t paint as many cars in these colors and the car gets pulled from the normal production paint group to paint them, I think the price is reasonable. I’ve been driving Porsches as my daily drivers for 40+ years, have never bought one off a dealers in-stock list (always ordered mine), and I normally keep them for a number of years. So, I don’t really care what Porsche charges for the optioned items. If it’s something I want and have the money to pay for it, that’s what I do. I joke a lot about their Options Configurator, but Porsche doesn’t charge anything extra to special order a car. Most people don’t special order cars, even Porsches. For me, there is no better daily driver sports car that you can buy. Whatever it costs.........that’s just the way it is and I don’t make any excuses for what Porsche does. If anyone disagrees, that’s fine. Don’t buy a Porsche!

    Thanks for an informative and entertaining video for your fantastic car. Couple of questions should you have the time to respond: First, how did you end up selecting the base sports-plus seats? Did you compare them with the 14-way or the 18-way seats? Did you find the suppleness of the leather for this seat superior to the 14-way seat as Nick Murray did? Is your sports-plus seating a simpler (and less expensive) version of the 18-way sports-plus seating? Secondly, did you do any comparison shopping among the Bay Area dealers for the car as ordered? And if so, did you benefit from any price discounting? Thanks.

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  6 років тому +2

      Vito Blomo Thanks for watching the video! I can’t really answer your question about how my seats compare with the 14 or 18 way seats because I never considered either of them for my seating choice. When I bought my Cayman in 2016, I was trying to not go too crazy with options and had decided that I wanted less electronic control for the seats. Also, to keep the overall price down a bit, I wanted a base model seat and chose the standard seat. However, when I bought my 911, I decided to step up to the Sport Plus seats since they provide a bit more lateral support. I love these seats and they are very comfortable for long distance driving. However, based on Nick’s review, I will consider the 18-way seats on my next Porsche no matter which model I get.
      It’s quite a long story about how I found my current dealer, so you might want to watch my Cayman video for an explanation. I’ve been able to develop a very nice business relationship with the General Sales Manager of my dealership and I have been able to secure a small discount. It may be dumb from a financial standpoint, but I don’t hammer dealers for excessive discounts. I personally feel it should be a “fair” 2-way street for both of us, particularly if I want to stay with the same dealership for additional cars. I feel that I’ve been treated more than fair which is very important in my eyes. Also, considering the fact of how Porsche dealers monthly allocations are quite limited based on different models,, I’d rather not go thru the “sales game” every time I buy a new car and am willing to live with a lower discount knowing I’ll get an allocation when I need one. P.S. When I bought my current 911, my dealer had exactly “one” 911 Carrera allocation for the month I ordered it in. And, yes, I did see their allocation sheet showing that fact. One last comment: I think it’s most important to find a dealer you “like” and is willing to treat you well, as opposed to finding one with the “best price.” I’ve always shopped that way for all products I buy. I was in the motorcycle business for 20 years of my business career and always treated my customers in that manner, as well.
      I hope this helps and good luck getting your Porsche.

    I like Miami Blue and you did well to choose a standard transmission. I do have a question for you: You mentioned that you would have preferred a six speed over a seven and I once heard a commentator say "it has a proper six speed". Can you or any of your commenters please offer their opinions as to the advantage of the six speed over the seven? Thank you.

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  6 років тому +2

      Cabin Creek The only benefit I can see for the additional gear (7th) is for gas mileage. However, from a sport driving standpoint, you’d never get it in 7th gear.......you really have to be hauling ass to use it.........you’d be well over 100mph! From the standpoint of missing shifts, Porsche has eliminated this issue when up shifting by using a “lockout” so you can’t shift directly from 4th to 7th. However, it is possible when down shifting to go from 7th to 4th by mistake. So, as far as I can tell, Porsche did this strictly to get their fuel numbers up for government fuel requirements both in the U.S. and in Europe. Final Note: 7th gear is really just an overdrive gear and not needed in a sports car. I never use it in this car.
      P.S. Just so you’re aware, I’ve been driving standard transmission cars (mostly Porsche) for more than 40 years.

    Great review. Since you owned a Cayman before this, and I've heard people rave about the Cayman, can you tell me how the drive of the Cayman compares to the 911? While I can see you traded away the Caymen to get this, do you find the Cayman more exciting and better connected to the road, like I've heard from others, or is the drive of the 911 still the superior drive?

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  6 років тому +4

      William Zimmerman I wouldn’t say one is a better driver........both are great cars, but handle differently. However, the Cayman handles more neutral......very flat thru turns due to the mid-engine. The 911 has a bit more understeer and the heavier read end allows for a strong push coming out of corners. Even though Porsche has almost eliminated the twitchy back end of the 911 due to the traction control, but the back end will swing out a bit if the car is pushed hard thru turns (with Traction Control off).........which can be an advantage. I raced motorcycles for fifteen years and tracked Porsches for five years, so I’m a fairly skilled driver and can handle the “looser” back end of the 911. However, if I had to recommend a Porsche to someone with “no” track experience, I think I’d suggest the Cayman...........much less expensive, easier to drive at speed with less chance of it getting away from you, and a bit smaller externally. And, if the car is being used as a “daily driver”, I think the base model Porsches are the absolute best. You are able to drive the cars closer to their limit (if you have the skills). No matter “base model” vs “S model”, they are very fast...........both of them. Unless you absolutely “have to have” the “S model”, save yourself $10K-$12K and buy either as a “Base Model.” Would I own another Cayman.........Yes. But, for me, the 911 is just the iconic Porsche and was the car I’ve always wanted to own. Both are fantastic cars........truly, the best......and for me, “Nothing Even Comes Close.” You won’t make a mistake buying either model. Best wishes in your search.........I know how you feel!

    @12:10 Cleaning?! Are you serious? Pssstt . . . whatever. IMHO it's a good way to disguise that it is a base model. The 4S has 420hp, 368ftlbs torque. Huge difference.

    Adrian, thanks for your thoughtful and honest reply to my questions. If you don't mind, I do have one follow-up question. Did you settle on the base Carrera model right away or did you seriously consider the S model Carrera? The reason I ask is that I'd like a second opinion on the drive-ability of either model. I've driven the base model, which felt much like my 2009 Carrera S (both have a manual transmission). I've also driven the S model, with a manual. The S model did seem to accelerate faster and have more torque at lower rpm's. However, looking at Porsche's own performance figures for its models, as well as reviews of the 991.2 Carrera line in the automotive press, the base model is not even a ½ second slower to 60 mph, brakes in fewer feet from 70 mph, has a better skidpad number, weighs less, a little bit quieter at speed, and slightly or better mpg. In other words, it appears to be a real value; and it's some $14,000 less than the S model. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

      Vito Blomo No, I never considered buying the S model. Since the 991.2 base model and S model both have the exact same engine with the exception of bit larger turbos and a slightly different configuration of the pistons, it just didn’t seem to make sense to spend the extra $14K for the S. The brake rotors on the S are larger , as well, but you’ve already seen that base model stops very quick. If I was still tracking my Porsche like I did for many years, I would have the S and the PDK, but as an everyday driver I don’t see any advantage to having the extra 50HP. I always equate the buying process as “need” and “want” so that enters into the decision but, for me, a base model Carrera checks all the boxes. I’ve never been one to try and impress others with all the specs and I only really care how I feel when driving my car. Believe me, Porsche has got the marketing aspect of their cars down to the nth degree and it’s the reason you can easily add $20K-$30K to the base price of any of their models. So..........for me, it’s always a base model with the addition of some options to really make it “my” car. I have a feeling you’ve basically figured this out and it now just comes down to dollars..........how much you need to spend to get exactly what “you”want. As you know, Porsche makes wonderful cars and whichever model you choose will be a great decision. Hope this helps.

    What made you go for the 911 instead of keeping the cayman? I’m trying to decide between the 911 or 718 cayman.

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  6 років тому +8

      essel23fly Well, it was more about “want” vs “need.” Previously, I owned a 1977 924, a 1986 944, and eventuality my 2016 Cayman. So, I had front engine and mid-engine Porsches but always wanted to own the rear-engine 911. I loved my Cayman, but just wanted to have the iconic model........the 911. However, the Cayman is a better handling car for the average driver, can carry travel luggage more easily than the 911, and the Cayman is considerably less money for, in my opinion, an equally great drivers car. After owning my 911since August, I’d say this: you would not be buying “down” by choosing the Cayman.........it may possibly be the better overall choice. Both will serve you well, particularly as a daily driver. Best wishes for your final decision. Hope this helps.

      18echosf Yes it helps thank you. The 911 obviously is iconic. But my practical side is telling me the 718 Cayman is a better overall buy. As far as looks, the Cayman is beautiful but you can’t beat that view of the 911 from the back.

      Excellent spec on your car. I would add that a Cayman loaded with options is very close in price to a Carrera. For me, the Carrera is my choice. The luggage rack option is very versatile if you’re going on a ski trip, for example. Either one are excellent cars. Cheers!

      Jesse Padilla No, I don’t have clear bra or ceramic coating on my cars. I decided a time ago, if I keep my Porsches for a long time (which I haven’t done!), I’d just have them resprayed when the stone chips got excessive. I realize there are a number of arguments against my reasoning, but it’s what I’ve chosen to do for my cars. Thanks for watching!

      You must be like 5 years old... a Viper of all things, hm? NOBODY wants a Viper, they sold ca 600 last year; NOBODY wants a GTR, same numbers. - They are among the top 10 worst selling cars in the US. Maybe the fan base for those cars is largely comprised of underage kids who "know" these cars from playing XBox? I'd rather ride my bicycle than sit down in a Corvette/Viper plastic hell - where do you think the money goes in a quality car?

    the new ones don't hold a candle to the styling of the old 911s. I test drove a Carrera S at the Porsche Experience and I was disappointed. Don't care for the heavy weight of the rear feeling. The car doesn't sound good at all...only when you get the revs up you'll finally get the sound. Not worth the money and I could have afforded one if I wanted to take that step.

    • @18echosf
      @18echosf  6 років тому +5

      Tony Amarillas Sorry, none of your points make any sense. Just curious: What do you drive? Don’t like the “heavy weight: All 911s from every generation feel the same way..........all have heavy weight in the rear. And, they pretty much all look the same..........same basic shape. “Doesn’t sound good”? Basically, sounds just like the Turbo. “Not worth the money”? What else for 100K could be more iconic, drive as well, have the highest quality interior, have fantastic handling, etc.
      You must be talking about a car I don’t know about..........and I’ve been driving them for 40-plus years.

      And you would be wrong. The new ones look, drive and sound fabulous. Furthermore, it has working a/c, heat and does every single thing better than the old one. You need to get out of the mustard and ketch-up.
