This afternoon I cooked the first serving of white rice in Kamadosan. I compared the rice with the rice cooker I was using for years. The rice from Kamadosan was a revelation! I couldn’t believe how delicious the texture it was. I’m excited to try other recipes soon. Thank you!
With the conventional 'western' stainless steel pot, After I've rinced and drained the jasmine rice for about 20 minutes, I usually like to lightly sauté the rice in oil for about three minutes and add a few cracks of salt. Can I continue this method with this Kamado-San or is it better to just keep it traditional like how you're doing it in this video? Thanks for the reply in advance 😊
Can you use a donabe in an oven? I've been using a steel pot to cook rice im my Kamado Joe barbecue and I'm looking for something that will get better results.
I found this in the comments section on a Donabe article on japanese-kitchen.net: "A donabe is safe to use on a gas stove and a coil electric stove, but better not to use on an induction stove, because rough bottom of the cooking vessel may scratch the glass surface of an induction stove. Before setting a donabe on a stove, wipe off the moisture outside of the donabe to prevent accidental cracking. Happy donabe cooking!" (japanese-kitchen.net/donabe/) Hope that helps!
I bought the donabe for rice. I need to season it before using as written in the directions. But can I use this donabe for other kinds of cooking or only for rice? You say it's thicker at the bottom than other donabe pots. Just wondering. Thank you!
Hi Prince, If you order it from our website, we include a rice measuring cup as a free gift. To buy it separately, Japanese markets normally sell rice measuring cups.
where can I buy the rice measuring cup? I was hoping it would come with the Rice Donabe - but sadly it didn't. It would make precise measurements so much easier! thanks

Sorry if I missed it - is the size in rice-cups before or after cooking? I'm assuming the rice swells during cooking. Thankyou - great video!

After cooking there is residue on the bottom from the scorched rice. What is the proper way to clean?
What if i only cook a small amount of rice. About 150g. Is the cooking time the same?
Hmm I always cook rice by doubling the volume of water. 2c rice 4c water ... but I am not soaking my rice ahead of time. Turns out amazing for me.
