JT as a business owner and a former shop manager I can tell you it's probably been recommended and she turned it down

I’ve Changed my 2015 GC 8 Speed Transmission 2 Times every 60k, I have 145k now. I have always Changed all my Vehicles my whole life ,40 years of driving, and have never had any Transmission or Engine problems. Maintenance is a must if you keep your vehicles a long time.

Sometimes the manufacturer is at fault. The owner manual on some vehicles say lifetime fluid

In this case, it says (at least in my manual for a 2016 T&C) the first transmission fluid change is at 120,000 miles except for "Police, taxi, fleet, or frequent trailer towing," in which case the first change is at 96,000 miles. An engineer might say something different face-to-face, but that's not what the manufacturer has printed in the manual. So, if she read the manual, she thought she was just "a little" past the limit of the first required change.

My CJDR service center recommended against having my transmission fluid changed at 185K. They thought the transmission would blow up after doing transmission fluid change. I told them I will take the risk to get it done. No issues with the transmission, it actually runs/shifts smoother.

NO transmission is fill for life. I don’t care what the engineer says. 😂

Chains wear also because of dirt and grit because of extended oil services. If a 6 foot chain wears just a tiny fraction on each link by the end of the life of not servicing and going over 5k miles they will be be close to 1in longer and cam and crank correlation codes. I always add an additive after 50k to help with rollers and according to oil conditions I service vehicles due to oil integrity and shorter times depending on customers driving habits and the engine and if it is gdi and having more carbon and fuel in oil.

My mom is in her 70s and 2 months ago I had her transmission serviced. She had no idea you were supposed to do that on cars.

This is why i tell my customers stay away from quick lube places. Your vehicle needs service not just oil drop and filter. I go over entire vehicle during routine mileage service and recommend needs in future to make customer aware of needed service. The biggest is changing the brake fluid used in hyundai and kia with dsg transmissions no one flushes this fluid for the clutch and wind up with huge expense around 100k when fluid has accumulated moisture and caused clutch failure and actuator needing to be replaced because of contamination and computer shifts as if it was new and the spongy system causes computer to wear clutch and the fluid is black with grayish material from the breakdown of the metal components within the hydraulic unit. The customer and many shops need to be very familiar with every vehicle and stay up to date.

Just did one of those lock actuators last week on a grand caravan that didn't fix it ended up being the TIPM apparently drivers door has its own relay inside the box that drives it. Pin 4 (beige/brown) coming out of the TIPM wouldn't light up test light during op for unlock. Hopefully urs is just the actuator then TIPMS must be made of gold or something 🤣$

If she's doing ride share at least she should be able to write off the repair costs and future maintenance

180k she is lucky. Those 62te transmissions are absolute junkers, if there was a transmission you shouldn't change the fluid on... it would be those... the ZF transmissions go longer then that on the factory fill. We got a guy in our shop that has one and it was serviced on time... still went out!

I just bought a base model dodge charger with 90k miles on it dont really know the history, is it too late to do a drain and fill on the transmission?

I think you should do it in half that time every 25 to 30k especially if it's a lot of short trips in town etc.thats just me transmissions ant cheap 😮

You're _right,_ but a manufacturer is never going to sell a car with that much required maintenance. They're trying to advertise their cars as "maintenance-free" as possible within the warranty period.
