Great to see you putting the work in to keep that thing original, generally, first step after buying any motobecane is pull the intake and carb, slap on a short intake and mikuni carb, because they're so cheap, and a badly tuned mikuni performs better than a pristine stock carb, but I love when they're just working like they did 50 years ago
To fix float is very simple. Dip needle in some polish paste then put it in drill and you put it into that part of carburator where neadle seals. Turn on drill on low and slowly be carefull not to overheat needle polish. When you see polished ring araund pte point of the needle it is going to seal. Sorry for bad english.
Have you come across any Indian mopeds? I have not seen many videos of them on youtube are they not desirable? for restoration/use?I just bought one and the only reason I bought it was that is part of the Indian Motorcycle history. I have read that people don't like them because the motor does not have any guts/power. What do you think?I have been watching all your videos of the restorations that you have done.Cheers
David, I have a similar moped, a 79 Mobylette 50v. Where did you get all the carb o-rings and rebuild parts? Would you mind listing out the parts you bought and where? Having a hard time finding at the usual sources.
Heya Myron. I bought my Gurtner rebuild kit from supermopeds.com, but I just went and looked, and that website is no more. They had some great stuff there so that stinks.
I got the parts to build one when I was 10 years old. I bought one in the eighties I should have kept. Now I have a 78 model with a hundred and ninety-seven miles someone lets it and it rusted the bottom of the rims off other than that the engine is perfect..
Hey man. The French wrenches are just offset mechanics wrenches. Something like these www.amazon.com/Craftsman-Metric-Offset-12-point-Set/dp/B07WX7TH9L/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=offset+wrench+set+metric&qid=1575411655&sprefix=offset+wrench&sr=8-5
@@DavidFixesHisShit Dude - thank you. Just want you to know I have watched every video in this series like a sponge :) I have been riding my pair of baby blue 50v's for 4 years but never got serious about the restoration. Going to take it on early 2020 and will send you the result. Thank you so much for putting all the love and effort into these videos, they make a huge difference. If you are ever in New Haven CT you gotta ride with my group - @Dirtyburninbroads on instagram. Would love to have ya.
Hey guys I have one of these and it runs and drives fine but it will NOT idle. I cleaned the carb and the problem still shows. I think it might be a horseshoe leak so it has low compression but I don't know. Please respond!
I do not like the crazy design of the Motobecane carbs. Awkward placement and not in a position for quick fix. Yet like with most Euro Peds, if ya get all the cogs n springs in sync they hum right along. My buddy has a really sweet yellow Moto. He fab’d a really nicely balanced and lightweight carriage trailer for it. Made an accordion type fold back canopy over the seating area and used it in our local Independence Day parades to clown up his little boy to throw candy from. This was about 20 years ago when you could find a pigeon poo covered Euro Ped in close to 1 in 10 barns up here in Cecil County Maryland. Back in the good old days before the invasion of 50cc Chinese disposable scooters of DWI recipients who used them for transport. Well, they ended the days of free and cheap 50cc moped fun for the rest of us who liked to restore mopeds and legally ride them unregistered. Now if you’re lucky enough to find an old moped sitting in a shed or yard sale, it’s a real headache trying to apply for a title to get an ORV tag. This is why I’ve been into 50cc scooters. I starting to really like the floor boards and engine sitting quiet and snug behind me with a low COG. Plus my wife and daughter fight over who rides my tiny Honda Metropolitan. I still like my Garelli bikes. I’m planning on selling my 1977 GS and keeping the super clean 1978. Thanks for the video Dave.
Those things sound healthy! nice work.
Thanks man!

Build it and make yourself happy!
Were u bought the Carb? Link plus
Those carbs came on the bikes. Didn’t need to buy them. But you can buy a Gurtner (if you’re a masochist) at treatland.
Could anyone tell me what the "french wrench" is again? I can't find when he originally explained the make and model

I like how you didn't edit out your frustration
I just leave the minor meltdowns in. When I lose it big time, I leave those moments out of the final edit. :-)

Hey Ryan. What kind of carb do you have on it?
David Fixes His Shit I actually was able to fix it with the help of a friend! Thing drives beautiful goes 30mph easy
i fg love your show
Wow. Thanks man. I really appreciate that.
I could be wrong but i think the float is so loose so that it isnt prone to sticking.
David you still alive? no posts in 3 years?🤷♂
Vroom vroom
I cannot for the life of me get mine to open up, it is boggy the entire time.
keep them nice...please

Yeah. Those Gurtners suck. Y’all do have a lot of mopeds up there in Maryland. I bought the Honda, Magnum, and Garelli outside of Fredrick.
