I traveled on the diesel Zephyr before "they're fires were dumped." I was very fortunate to experience a trout dinner while rolling through the Moffatt Tunnel. This is a well produced history of that storied train consist. It would have been great to see moving film footage of some of its travels included.
They, and The Southern Railway System did not want Amtrak on their rails and continued to run the Rio Grande Zephyr and Southern's two trains, The Southern Crescent, and Atlanta/Washington, D.C., "Piedmont," with pride. Also worth mentioning as a last private passenger offering would be the Georgia Railroad's mixed train that ran between Atlanta and Augusta, which, I think, also came off in 1983.
I did enjoy it, but it was more of a talk than a "tour". Would have been great to see inside the equipment as it has been closed and locked every time I visit the museum.
In 2017-18, DRGW 5763 was rebuilt and converted to SP rotary snowplow 'snail' SPMW 8222(2nd) and mated to rebuilt SP Rotary Snowplow SPMW 222. Assigned to Roseville, California. Do an online search for "spmw 8222" to see photos and videos of it.

Excellent story. Love these beautiful “F” engines. 🇺🇸👍
Thanks, I love railroad history. Especially passenger trains.
My mom would adore this train
I still miss my great friend, Bob Richardson
I'm more of a narrow gauge guy, but on occasion, i love hearing about standard gauge rio grande history. Very cool.

I love that they got saved, I just wish they had gone to a museum that could operate them
Thank you for presenting this program on the CZ and RG Zephyr. I followed the last RGZ up to the Moffat tunnel. A harrowing story. 😨
Really good video
Great vid, hope you never run out of Big Trains.

Good point
Couldn't agree more!
The 'original California Zephyr" operated in a time when the United States had a bit of class.
This is my favorite train, so this train it was at #goatsimulator and at #trainsim
