Some years ago I had an MSR Whisperlite Internazionale, and the "shaker jet" cleaning mechanism was a major plus. Also, my reaction to the Fire Maple boil time is that an alcohol stove could beat it, AND be quiet. 😁

Primus, a Swedish company has a similar multifuel stove. Using it is complex, nozzles, bottle position etc… They have some great instruction videos on their website and UA-cam. The stove is called a Primus Omnifuel.

    • @northernswedenstories1028
      @northernswedenstories1028 8 місяців тому +2

It's not really complex. Different nozzles are needed depending on the type of fuel used. Bottle just lies flat on the ground. I wouldn't trust liquid stoves coming out of china. These types of stoves need to come from trusted manufacturers assembled in Europe, US, Japan or South Korea.😊

I loved that they solved the age old problem of how to connect the fuel line to the pump by fusing it in place. They copied the msr pump… which is the failure point of msr stoves and then made it a non replaceable item.
Meh… I’d guess that there are further clogs on the burner and or jet/hose.

Does have a plastic pump. Good fuel btls. I'm not as bad as you but do have a bunch of stoves. Last is a Jet Boil. Fastest thing I have ever seen for water. If water is what uou want and don't mind the gas btls great way to go. Loved my old one burner Colman peak. Was the best for my all around camping with a motorcycle. Thanks for saving me 50 bucks.

    👍👍👍 .. a valuable review.
$40.00 should be an indication of what is to follow.
My Trangia, White Box and a heap of Home-Grown Alcohol Stoves don't need a 'field kit'. Nor does my 'Camping Gaz Bluet 206' Gas Stove (circa 1970's) either.
That said .. my Optimus 8R Hunter White Gas Stove. 'Spares' are minimal and so infrequently needed, that they stay at home (in 40+ years, a gasket on the fuel reservoir filler cap and graphite seal on the burner control valve stuffing box). As a 'Boomer' (YOB 1950), I'm past Polar Expeditions 😏.
With stuff that can possible go 'whoosh / boom, product quality should be a consideration.
A good share .. thanks. Take care ..

I have a BRS-8 which is similar in price, probably heavier, works ok and is fast but I mostly use either a BRS 3000 canister stove (which is extremely light but of course the canister has some weight) or my Svea 123 (heavier but fairly compact) as I find fiddling with the pump and the hose and having to assemble and disassemble the stove a bit too much of a hassle. Also, there tend to be spills when attaching or taking off the pump as seen in this video. Also, the many moving parts don't give a feeling of great reliability even though it has worked so far. Too many seals, gaskets etc. to fail at the worst time when it's cold and you really need a hot meal or drink.
The Svea is so much simpler and more reliable and after you get used to it it's very easy and fast to light and almost as powerful. I wonder why they went to the pump stoves in the first place when similar performance can be achieved with a much less complicated design? Yes, there can be some weight advantage from not needing a separate fuel container but not that much as I can use a lighter plastic Trangia fuel bottle with the Svea as it doesn't need to be pressurized.

For example my cheap BRS-8 styled knockoff had 3 such (one installed and one for diesel and another claims its for alcohol). Since i've had it i've since switch the pump to the brs-8 pump just because there are better fitting parts for it. Couldn't find cup replacement sized right for it and didn't feel like making leather ones since i could just get the new pump for cheaper as well as cheaper cups over all. Not that there was anything wrong with the pump that came with it just wanted better maintainablity from it.

From the video shown, this is not a quality stove by all means. I have a Whisperlite and Optimus Polaris, both of them work great in liquid fuel mode(no one preheats like this firemaple did). I'm confused why Firemaple even come up with this product. I have a few gas stoves from Fire Maple, and they did not disappoint me. Also, the quality of that gas stove I owned was better than the one in the video.

In theory, gasoline is better in cold weather than gas or alcohol. And can be lighter for long trips where you can't refuel along the way. And it can be faster.
The 12000 btu seems like false advertising, plain and simple, and that style cup burner isn't known for such high output, regardless of who makes it.
The long startup time is a downside of the valve being at the bottle rather than stove.
Possibly if you have a large plot, and are boiling a gallon of water at a pop, it might be more efficient. The Svea 123 is simpler and almost as light, but it has limited fuel capacity, and if you run it dry you damage the internal wick which can be a pain to replace.

I has an MSR XGK for 30 years it had a plastic pump that never failed. I also had 4 jets. The Jet for unleaded gas did not work with Naptha (white gas). It had a jet for Diesel, Gas, Naptha and Paraffin. Also the fuel amount in the bottle was important for good pressure. Love your reviews. Well, it's light. And liquid fuel stoves are tricky to start, as you say, but it really is weird that it burns so poorly.
Looked at your Primos Omnilite Ti video, and for any sort of situation where you actually *need* a gasoline stove (cold, melting snow for water, expedition), the extra $100 cost as compared to the fire maple is peanuts. Weight is similar.
