Or you know how to diy a good alcohol stove. Tektoba is your friend if that’s the case. I make better wood and alcohol stoves than there are in the market. I honestly know they’re better than commercial stuff.
I just ordered one. Took me several days to settle the inner conversation with myself and that $14 shipping, and while I was deliberating (basically trying to accept the decision I already made, which was to buy it anyway) the makers of Goshawk sent me a coupon for $3 off. Which was very nice of them and so, long story short, in whatever weeks the thing will arrive and at which time I shall revisit this video. Thanks E.
Update: the stove (burner) finally arrived and right away I was eager to play with it. It burns nicely, boils water great, however, it cannot store fuel inside it like the much heavier Trangia. The goshawk leaks 😞 So it must be carried empty and I have to bring a fuel bottle.
Their site says "Free shipping over $40 (in Australia)". That really makes it sound like that free shipping deal is only for people living in Australia.
It is. I live in Canada and had to pay shipping. Also, CAD rate vs AUD is close but not the same… I paid the Australian price but in Canadian dollars. 28 CAD is actually 31.65 AUD. Not cool.
Old Jack is known to be "thrifty" at a minimum and possibly could be labeled cheap. We (I) love alcohol stoves for use in environments where a wood fire is not possible. DIY burners fabricated and tested with our young troops are high on our favorites list. This new Goshawk absolutely "floats my boat" I actually like that the sealing ring appears to be silicone. It should do a good job of preventing a leak if ever we have to carry the stove with unused fuel, something I avoid like the plague. Yeah, this product will cause me to part with twenty bucks. I do wish there was a simmer ring but like Ernie often states, no product is perfect. Maybe there will be a DIY mod or a factory accessory to fill that want.
My order came out to $49 and $14 for shipping not free but not horrible but more then I am willing to spend with so many other options. If the stove was sold in the USA I would jump on it fast! Keep the videos coming!
My order for the stove in the video with a stand/screen was $38.53 US shipped to the USA Stove $21 Aus + screen $7 Aus + $14 Aus postage = total $42 Aus or $38.53 US dollars, as charger to my card.
Cool design, they also sell a mated pot stand/ windscreen for 7 USD. FYI, I tried solid fuel tabs in the EDDY-200 stove and the performance of the solid fuel was excellent, most efficient burn of solid fuel I have ever had with minimal residue. The EDDY 200 has replaced my Pocket Folder in my kit.
that is a really cool stove , from the way it looks down to that wild flame pattern. I believe I'm just going to have to have one for my collection Dwayne
Like the (11g) Capillary stove, Goshawk produces enough pressure to make a blue-flame. Both accomplish this (tiny) pressure by depriving the inner chamber from oxygen due to the outer fire smothering the inner's supply. Thus the inner pool-of-fuel remains cooler, while the outer chamber boils-off. Goshawk has a lid. Goshawk has professional appearance. Goshawk requires stand, while capillary has built-in stand (thus defining capillary a true stove vs Goshawk being just a burner). But it's the lighter weight that tips the scale in favor of Capillary-stove (11g vs 60g).
Some good designs coming out of Australia right now. Wonder if you raised the stove a little if you would get a better burn time. Looked to be a little further away than the normal distance. Still an awesome stove. Appreciate the information as always and appreciate the time you take to provide useful information. Merry Christmas to you and your family. God bless.
Merry Christmas. I normal take a collapsible wood stove I can put my alcohol burner in. Like cooking on free fuel outside my tent but on cold mornings I like the alcohol burner in the tent for coffee and warms me up at the same time. I have an 8 inch square cake pan I put the burner in so hopefully I don't burn my tent down while using it. Would love to try a woodburner in my tent but still kind of afraid of that hot tent idea.
It appears to be about the same height as the Trangia burner, but the Nano, using the fire sticks, elevates the Trangia. The design of the OP-100 would not match the fire sticks, so sitting on the bottom of the Nano, its distance below the bottom of the pot would be sub-optimal. Saw someone on Reddit who set the burner on top of the lid to raise it up, which worked, but also melted the plastic ring in the lid that prevents leaks.
totally agree with you it looks great and works great i don't see it needing a stand as a con lol, i may just have to get one or two, cheers for the video reviews of stoves i would only use it to boil water for coffee
Merry Christmas Ernie - the free shipping was only to Australia - however I only had to pay $21postage to get two stoves and a mat from them so not all that bad really. Europe is almost $100 postage for something similar. I balked at that cost but three items $7 each item not really all that bad. I'm looking forward to getting it and trying it out. So far my favorite just out and about is the Toaks Siphon. Small almost indestructible and the only con for me is that you can't carry alcohol in it.
Very space age and looks like it works great, but I will always be pulled to the steampunk brass and copper of their EDDY-X. Goshawk makes some beautiful stoves.
Prompted by your review of the "Boundless Voyage" titanium stove, and having seen this review, I did a burn test on the former that I own and confirm:it is junk! Ordered 2 OP-100'S within five minutes. Thank you so much.
Thanks for this Ernie, you cost me £37 pounds for a the stove, a stand and a stainless steel spoon, which includes £11 for shipping, which I think is nothing because it would cost me at least half that to drive to somewhere to find a rubbish stove to buy. I love the Goshawk ERA burner you reviewed, was using it the other day in the woods and it was very windy, soon boiled up my water tho. I do love the look of the Goshawk stoves, like you say, space age looking. Thanks for this review, I really value your opinion. Merry Christmas and a stovetastic new year!🎉👏🇬🇧😜
You can make this for free from an aluminium beer bottle. You can easily correct the flame pattern on a penny stove by moving the jets to the top, instead of the usual place on the shoulder.
Goshawk makes some really great stoves. A long time ago you posted a video on one of their , Siphon Alcohol Stove Steampunk EDDY-X stoves. I got one and it puts my Trangia and even the Evernew titanium stoves to shame. Can't see where anyone could go wrong getting any stove from them and include a wind screen. The down side is it takes some time for the stove to make it over here , half the way around the world. So don't expect one overnight.
Wow…finally a real improvement on the Trangia burner concept. And there’s no question that Goshawk is cutting edge right now when comes to gear design. BUT, as someone else pointed out, that “free shipping” deal is only for Ozzie’s. And shipping from Australia would definitely be a deal breaker. Until we get a stateside supplier for this stuff, I’ll be sticking with my Trangia.
Looks like a very smart little burner. Of course, you can't see how smart it is when it's actually in use inside that triangular windshield/pot stand. In direct comparison with a Trangia burner (only) it comes out well. However, advantages of the Trangia in comparison: Trangia offer several fully integrated sets so that the pans, windshield, lid plate, pot stand etc. all nest together; Trangia comes with a simmer ring which is genuinely useful; Trangia spares are widely available.
So do Goshawk. This stove has a stand/screen, that fits on top, turn it upside down for a smaller storage size, and they have a 750 pot it fits inside too.
As always: Great video Ernie, thank you. I got the Era Booster rocket and the above one and also must say that they are one of my best stoves I own. Design and function is superb, quality is good. The only issue I would improve on the OP-100 was a coarser thread. It may take some approaches to close the lid with that fine thread and you need to watch out not to tilt and ruin it. The Era has a cool built in potstand, thats why this is my default one. Frohe Weihnachten.
Cons: 2. can't use in a stove that takes a Trangia style drop-in burner (no lip to hold it in place) 3. No simmer control, it's all-out or nothing. 4. Will definitely create a major hotspot in the center of a pan.
Pretty awesome design. However, one needs to be able to control the amount of flame (heat) unless your only goal is to boil water. A wide open Trangia, for example, is too hot for many types of cooks.
I agree & I like to use a slower cook system with simmering to actually cook & this does not impress me! I have many burners including the Trangia and just for fun I bought a Chinese KO of the Trangia in aluminum with a screw lid it’s super lightweight blooms super fast (under 3-4sec) and very fuel efficient without a simmer ring for $8 & I can simmer with it (Trangia & diy simmer top)
I'm seeing in the comments. Time to boil 2 minutes less than Trangia and lighter. Being made of aluminum, how sturdy is the stove? How does the run time compare to the Trangia? Love my Trangia's need a very good reason to switch. Glad your back.
Thanks Dr. Ernie for a good review. I like the look of this stove too. Maybe I need one also. It reminds me of a siphon stove with the ability to store fuel. What's not to like?
Not sure if I like having fine threads as they may not be so forgiving with moisture/corrosion and grit. Fine threads are fine for indoors but outdoors could be a problem.
It is only within Australia. My last Goshawk cost a fortune to post. It had two significant issues which stopped me using it; no lid and it drank fuel like a thirsty elephant. I particularly like cooking on small ethanol stoves as I use titanium pots and a small burner reduces the risk of hot spots and burning my creations. A Trangia can at least be throttled down. I do like this but it’s not for me.
Nice video on another great product from Goshawk. Have to do a little research to find a lightweight stand/pot holder since it’s a different form factor than the Trangia with the flange.
good review. went to the site to order it plus the HA-7075 which you reviewed some time ago and boom! £11 shipping fee on a £45 order. :( i've emailed them to ask what's up with that. either way though, thanks for the review. 👍✌🖖
It doesn’t seem any faster than a Fancee Feast stove made from two cans and a fiberglass wick. I had the fiberglass tape left over from another job. The two cans -one Fancee feast about 70 cents and a tomato paste can about 50 cents.
Would you please review the Stanley Adventure even heat fry pan with one of your stoves? It appears to be made similar to higher end skillets with multiple layers on the bottom for even heat distribution. I really enjoy your channel and try to catch every one. Thank you.
You should have gotten the AZ-100 stand that appears to have been designed specifically for the stove. It's pretty cool. Can the silicone seal hold up to using the lid as a snuffer?
Thanks for the fun and informative videos. I got the Goshawk ERA burner with windscreen after seeing your video. Did you know they now have a simmer rig for this stove? I have one, made rice with my Keith rice cooker, nice! I have since purchased the goshawk OP-100 WITH windscreen/pot holder. Review the OP-100 with wind screen and the simmer ring/stand for the ERA burner, please. I'm an Iowa physician (older than you) and this is a professional recommendation. My buddy, Buffalo Bob, wants to take a motorcycle road trip with me to Louisiana or Arkansas to meet my fellow CampStove Addict and outdoorsman.
Appreciate your reviews. Thank you for doing them, especially while maintaining a practice. Would you consider a comparison video? This stove versus the Toaks titanium Siphon? I've done quite a bit of testing with the latter, and found about 1 in below the pot bottom is an ideal distance with my setup. Again, thank you for all the good work you put in on these videos. Regards, Doug
Love the looks and performance of this stove. Curious why you picked that particular stand. Does it offer you a better 'sweet spot' from bottom of pot to top of burner? Do you find that different stands have different sweet spots?
When can we expect best of 2023 best of alcohol, and pressured gas stoves doesn’t need to be a new but if you acquired it in 23 it’s counts. Hope you have a magical Xmas/ Holidays
Thanks for your many years of reviews. I noticed you drink community coffee. I just became familiar with the brand. I had a good coffee in mind but; it seems they went out of business. Cafe Galletti USA. If you ever get a chance? The house blend pre ground is the way to go. Enjoy your holidays!!!!
A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family. Does your wife never wonder, why all the cupboards in your garage, that hide your multitude of stoves, are always locked with no key visible?
I know you reviewed the ERA burner, but what about the new AZ-1 cradle with simmer ring? Would love to see how much difference that makes in the burn times since the ERA burns through fuel so quickly (which is why it boils water so quickly).
PeloHickerMD test the (Czech) EMO+ORIGAMI alcohol stove. A capillarity side burner with ingenious stand that allow adjust the flame from (allegedly) 25 to 100%.
Flame jets pointing at an unusual angle is totally irrelevant to me. Cons: No knurling on the cap which could be an issue unscrewing in some conditions. And how do you extinguish the flame -- I don't see a damper cap? My Esbit looks to be functionally identical, but without the cons. I would appreciate the lower weight of this Goshawk but that's about it.
Yes, I think its called the AZ-100 Windproof stand and retails on their site for $7. If you look up the burner on their website, you'll see the stand in use.
First, "unique" is an absolute. Not unlike pregnancy, you either are or you are not. There are no degrees of "uniqueness". Second, Esbit tabs and their ilk have more BTUs than liquid alcohol and are safer. My personal favorite was Expedition Fuel from Expedition Research, but I see they no longer make the smaller tabs. Fortunately, I bought a ton of the smaller ones. I find the larger Esbt tabs burn way too long for my very efficient system. There is no point in bringing water to a "rolling" boil. Once it has the small bubbles in the bottom of the pot it is as hot as it is going to get (look up phase change). Since the freeze dried food doesn't care, why do it? Freeze dried food will actually reconstitute at room temps. I was camped out in a alpine cirque one day. I had just spent 8 - 10 minutes boiling water. I then spent 8 - 10 minutes waiting for it to cool down enough to eat it. I sat there looking at the pouch thinking "Well, that was dumb", so I stopped doing it and heated it just enough to make it palatable.
I love it at 3:08 "If you aren't excited about it, for 20 bucks, you just don't like stoves."
Or you know how to diy a good alcohol stove. Tektoba is your friend if that’s the case. I make better wood and alcohol stoves than there are in the market. I honestly know they’re better than commercial stuff.
I had the exact same reaction, cracked me up to tears.
I bought this stove and I’m not complaining about the shipping, the Quality is worth it! Great video brother
I just ordered one. There made in Australia 😂
G’day Ernie, good onya for supporting a small Australian company, they’re a good bunch making good stuff. From Al down under. 👍🍻
Merry Christmas To You All
Thanks for this review. I value your comments on stoves, and I depend on working stoves in my work and recreation.
Old Jack is known to be "thrifty" at a minimum and possibly could be labeled cheap. We (I) love alcohol stoves for use in environments where a wood fire is not possible. Good video. I was just about to buy one but free shipping over $40 is in Australia only :(
Going to order one of these baby's.
However websites free shipping with 40.00 purchase (in Australia) not to US.
Really neat product - I lilve here in Australia. But I must say you present your videos really well!
You folks make some really innovative outdoor stuff. Nuff respeck down under.
My order came out to $49 and $14 for shipping not free but not horrible but more then I am willing to spend with so many other options. If the stove was sold in the USA I would jump on it fast! Keep the videos coming!

I broke down and paid the $14 shipping and ordered the OP100 Burner, can’t wait to try it
Haha me too €13 ship to Ireland
So how do you control the flame? Trangia offers the simmer ring to control the flame!

Any reason why this stove wouldn't work well with the firebox nano? Thanks for sharing!
It appears to be about the same height as the Trangia burner, but the Nano, using the fire sticks, elevates the Trangia. Hello Ernie, I'm glad that you're back! I wish you and your family Merry Christmas. Thank you for this review and a lot greetings from Germany 👍😉🌲☃
I love that stove sooooo good thanks once again ernie u are legend
Tjat stove has something you don't expect in outdoor gear - great aesthetics! Nice review.
I like the flame pattern, and it appears that it would be stable due to its shape.
Glad you came back to UA-cam. I really enjoy your content and watching water boil. Thank you Dr. Stove 👍

I have this stove and other stuff from goshawk they are super quality stuff Doc just like you keep the great content comin
I just bought one Ernie, thanks for bringing it to light, it looks the shit alright!👍
Very space age and looks like it works great, but I will always be pulled to the steampunk brass and copper of their EDDY-X. Goshawk makes some beautiful stoves.
Good Morning Ernie and Greetings from Northern Utah ! Merry Christmas to you and your family! We love you Brother!
Merry Christmas and a stovetastic new year!🎉👏🇬🇧😜
Nice pronunciation, Ernie.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
You can make this for free from an aluminium beer bottle. You can easily correct the flame pattern on a penny stove by moving the jets to the top, instead of the usual place on the shoulder.
Thank you so much for your content! I really wish I had found this channel sooner. It would have saved me a few bucks!😂 Thank you again!
Great video Ernie. Merry Xmas to you and your family.
Goshawk makes some really great stoves. A long time ago you posted a video on one of their , Siphon Alcohol Stove Steampunk EDDY-X stoves. Looks like I'm buying a new alcohol burner. Thanks Ernie! Merry Christmas!
Cool looking stove. Merry X'mas
Merry Christmas and a happy hogmanay to you Ernie and family.
Just got two sent to the UK for £11 which I think is pretty reasonable to be honest.
Tossed it my cart to check shipping to USA $14 to Virginia so $35 delivered plus the wait time. (Still might order it lol)
Damn, my "Add to cart" finger feels very itchy.
Well darn another burner I need to buy. 😊
Pretty awesome design. However, one needs to be able to control the amount of flame (heat) unless your only goal is to boil water. A wide open Trangia, for example, is too hot for many types of cooks.
I agree & I like to use a slower cook system with simmering to actually cook & this does not impress me!

Merry Christmas Ern! Cool stove and, like you, I'm fascinated with alcohol stoves.
I'm seeing in the comments. Time to boil 2 minutes less than Trangia and lighter. Being made of aluminum, how sturdy is the stove? How does the run time compare to the Trangia?
Love my Trangia's need a very good reason to switch.

Please review petromax kettle, wood stove
Ah man, been waiting on this review! Love their stoves.
OMG. Looks fantastic. Dare I say better than a Trangia? Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Nice video on another great product from Goshawk.
Have to do a little research to find a lightweight stand/pot holder since it’s a different form factor than the Trangia with the flange.
Hi, Ernie. Great video. Also, I like your shirt. My daughter attends SCAD.
If your name was Hawk, I’d say "gosh, Hawk, that is a cool stove" 😂
good review. went to the site to order it plus the HA-7075 which you reviewed some time ago and boom! £11 shipping fee on a £45 order. :( i've emailed them to ask what's up with that. either way though, thanks for the review. 👍✌🖖
Cool stove but the boil Time is about average I’ll stick with my.Toaks siphon. Thank you for the video. Have a merry Christmas.
It doesn’t seem any faster than a Fancee Feast stove made from two cans and a fiberglass wick. I had the fiberglass tape left over from another job. The two cans -one Fancee feast about 70 cents and a tomato paste can about 50 cents.
That looks really nice. Would pair great with a FireBox 🔥 Nano or FreeStyle.
Tetkoba's capillary hoop stove (CHS)
Would you please review the Stanley Adventure even heat fry pan with one of your stoves? It appears to be made similar to higher end skillets with multiple layers on the bottom for even heat distribution. I really enjoy your channel and try to catch every one. Thank you.
How about a video on different types of wicking and the pros/cons of each type?
yes!
How do you simmer with it? Does a Trangia simmer ring with it?
Thanks for another great video! Merry X'mas from Germany !
Thanks Doc. How does it compare to the Trangia? Weight, time to bloom, time to boil? Thanks
OP-100 is more light ~ 67 grams, bloom fast and boil in ~2 minutes less than Trangia TB25 burner, but cost more.
A little less weight and 2 minutes sooner for the boil time.
That spend $40 and get free shipping only applies in Australia.
How do you like the Zen Camp pot stand? I used one for most of the summer for making coffee outside and it worked really well for me.
Love the looks and performance of this stove. Curious why you picked that particular stand. Does it offer you a better 'sweet spot' from bottom of pot to top of burner? Do you find that different stands have different sweet spots?

That is a pretty cool looking stove and windscreen 👍 Info on the windscreen please
A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
Does your wife never wonder, why all the cupboards in your garage, that hide your multitude of stoves, are always locked with no key visible?
I would add another con: it will benefit from a simmer ring too.

I know you reviewed the ERA burner, but what about the new AZ-1 cradle with simmer ring? Would love to see how much difference that makes in the burn times since the ERA burns through fuel so quickly (which is why it boils water so quickly).
This thing looks super cool. I still like my RUCAS stove. No need for a pot stand but it looks like he's not making them anymore?
2 stoves ($21 each) with 2 stands ($7 each), $14 Shipping to US. $70 total.
snowpeak BS100 PLS
Shame it doesn't fit a triangle stand. Need to compare against a standard triangia
This is a variation of the soda can hobo stove.
Free shipping in Australia over $40! They want $14 to Calif. on a $49 purchase. Are you in Australia? How did you get free shipping?
Curious, it seemed more blue than yellow with the flame? In theory, a cleaner burn?
PeloHickerMD test the (Czech) EMO+ORIGAMI alcohol stove.
A capillarity side burner with ingenious stand that allow adjust the flame from (allegedly) 25 to 100%.
Hi, did you measure how much fuel it used for a boil? Thanks
Is that free shipping, International? (Australia only, but its not a bad cost, anyway)
Interesting Product. Do you have a valid link where the product can be purchased?
Flame jets pointing at an unusual angle is totally irrelevant to me.
Cons: No knurling on the cap which could be an issue unscrewing in some conditions. And how do you extinguish the flame -- I don't see a damper cap?
My Esbit looks to be functionally identical, but without the cons. I would appreciate the lower weight of this Goshawk but that's about it.
Do you know if the little Ti X Brace stand (Evernew makes one) will fit on this like it does most Trangia clones?
Great video. Dies Goshawk make a pot stand for it? What would you pair it with?
Yes, I think its called the AZ-100 Windproof stand and retails on their site for $7. If you look up the burner on their website, you'll see the stand in use.
Shipping doesn't work in the UK and that makes it an unappealing 28£
👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪😀😀😀😀😀
Well said and I agree with everything you mentioned including the esbit cooking, I use Coghlan instead if not denatured alcohol
Simmer?
