- Coastal Foraging - Spring tide coastal foraging for Lobsters, Crabs and Clams.
I was trialling a new camera setup on this session and unfortunately the wind noise was very bad. I have done what I could but I apologise if the audio quality is not up to our usual high standard.

- This was filmed before the UK lockdown was initiated. It is my feeling that we all need to obey the governments instructions and remain locked down to control this horrible virus. No one loves their fishing more than I, but the safety of others is far too important. You will not die if you do not go fishing. But someone else might if you do. My son for example. Or someone’s mother or father. Stay home, stay safe. 😊👍🏻
I'm sending you good wishes for you and your family! Stay safe
well said John...
Lets all hope we can get back to whatever the new normal will be soon enough. One of the positive things about all this was that I came across your channel. Very enjoyable. I look forward to more great foraging videos. Stay safe and healthy.
Understood, stay safe!
My wife's a in charge of a hospital over here in Australia. We both have to practice the best health practice we can to be as safe as possible. Your pin was appreciated by my missus and I and wish that you and your family stay safe through these times.
I recently stumbled across this channel, and it actually helped solidify my decision to stop being a vegan. I haven't been feeling well for a while and seeing how incredibly respectful you are of the ocean and the creatures that you take to eat has shown me that eating animals can be far from inhumane. The way you talk about the fish and take only what you need is truly inspirational. A really special channel, thank you for sharing it with us xx
- Gracie it really is our pleasure. That what you have just said truly is what I hope people see when they watch our channel. It is a lesson we are also teaching out children. Never take more than you need and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. Hopefully our videos will encourage others to adopt our approach and respect for the natural world. Best wishes to you and your family and have a lovely day. :D
P.s. Have you seen our recent video foraging for Spider Crabs. If you enjoyed this then I think you will enjoy that too.
He is the legend. He has turn a vegan by being one of the best people I have ever watched welcome to the fold where you will rewatch these videos and never get tired of it
Been much debate on if lobsters feel pain based on their primitive nervous system. But its a good idea to do it anyway, just in case and in practice.
I’m watching this because I’ve been a vegetarian for 18 years, most of my life and I recently started eating scallops. They’re sooo good and I think my body needed it
This guy is an absolute badass reaching his hands into the strike zone of crabs and lobsters
- It is the confidence that comes from experience Isaac. I've been doing this all my life. :D
He is! Have you seen him pull a shark out of the ocean? Hes mad.
Drew Brown *Damn He’s a Mad Man, I’m scared to even touch a spider*
The Fish Locker: Removes his jacket, looks at the camera and rolls up his sleeves.
The Lobster: So the battle begins.
Hahaha definitely a man vs wild moment 😄
Chris Anderson - You know shit just got real!!

Ally Rood - Thank you Ally. I am glad you enjoyed the video and stay safe. 😊🦞👍🏻
You are like a wise wizard explaining about all the fantastical real world alchemy ingredients and not so mythical creatures, I love it!
- Haha. Some of the things in our videos wouldn't sound out of place in a Harry Potter book or something would they :P
Sometimes I feel like The Fish Locker is making up these names. "limpid, winkles ... and lots of little tiny gorbies"
- Haha. Like creatures from a Harry Potter film. :P
Watching you forage reminds me of me and my Grandmother, she used to let me stay home from school and she'd put on a pair of gollashes and we'd walk along the river at low tide, she showed me how to lift the rocks and find crawfish and eels, and snails and fresh water mussels in the mud. She also taught me how to skip stones across the water, I learned more from her than I ever could in school. Thank you for bringing back those fond memories.
- Renee it sounds like you have some wonderful memories of your grandmother. I have the same memories from my late Grandad. I am glad that you enjoyed our video and that we could walk with you down memory lane. Welcome to our channel and have a lovely day 😊
Lobster: _Lives in a small cave_
The Fish Locker: So you have chosen death
- Let battle commence!!!
Lobster: *exists*
The Fish Locker: "I'm about to end this man's whole career."
I live 13+ hours from any beaches/oceans. Why do I love watching these?

You know what I noticed in all the videos I've seen so far? These people are kind and considerate. The way they take care of the catch and all the releases as well as the way they talk to each other. Its really nice to watch.
- Thank you very much, I am glad our philosophy transfers across in the videos. It is also something we are teaching our children. Never take more than you need and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation and BE NICE. :) Take care.

I want to thank you for teaching us about everything along the way! I love it! My autistic son has a passion for fish, both fresh and saltwater, and has tanks of both. I feel like I can talk with him about his passion a little more, because I've learned from you and appreciate the anenomes, plants, and little sea life! Thank you so much!! Stay healthy and safe!
I am so very glad that you can both enjoy our videos together. 😊
Thank you for this video. I love when you show catch, cook, and eat. Please keep safe. Hunker down when the authorities say so. Love your wonderful family !!!
- Thank you Michael, we have been locked down for over a week now, we locked down before the authorities said to. Hopefully this will all pass quickly. :) Stay safe.
Love this channel ❤️ my guy knows his shit, and when he doesn't he asks his viewers for help
- Thank you very much. It is a naive person who thinks he knows everything, and a foolish person who doesn't ask for help. ;) Take care Jonni, best wishes to you and your family and stay safe. :)
Brilliant stuff as always John..In these dark times your videos always cheer me up and that lobster was something else.. Watching you get her reminded me of a jack russell.. LOL..
Stay safe you and your family... and keep these videos coming.

I would have never thought about the plant life being so beautiful.
Curtis Massey - We are so fortunate. There is such incredibly diverse and vibrant life on our shore. We love it. 😊
I enjoyed the video that i didn't notice I've been sitting here for 34 minutes. Gonna wait for the next coastal foraging.
Zamir Chio - That is wonderful to hear. Though it will be a while before we are out foraging again. We all need to abide by the governments instructions and stay locked down to help contain this horrible virus. Stay safe. 😊👍🏻
always lovely to see the little creatures living in the tide pools mr. fishlocker
- Thank you Jonathon. I absolutely agree, I love doing this. So interesting and so much to see. Take care and stay safe. :)
Another great vid. I totally agree, stay at home and stay alive. We will get past this terrible ordeal and get back to living our lives and enjoying the precious time we have with our families, friends and loved ones.

What a beautiful lobster! Awesome video and that plate with the cooked lobster looked so good! Yes, you would pay a premium price for that meal at a restaurant! I really love these coastal foraging videos and have learned a lot from them! 👍😎

Boy what a looker Sir! She was a beauty indeed. Cheers.. Thanks for taking us with you, Please stay safe over there across the pond right.

Lobster: *grabs spear*
Fish Locker: congratulations, you played yourself
- Inside that cave was like a three musketeers fight scene. "Lunge. Parry. Riposte!! Engarde sir lobster!!"
It was so great to see your smiling face through this troubling time thank you and I hope you and your family stay well
Donna Owen - It is our pleasure to be able to share our time with you Donna. Best wishes and stay safe.
Where most people would go "ah, that's too far I can't get that." John goes "hold on, gimme a second" then shoves his hand right in there haha. Love it.
Haha. Just like my sense of humour I guess. I never know when is “too far” 🤣🤷🏻♂️
Well done you make catching and cooking the lobster look so easy....Great stuff.
I am glad you enjoyed the video. Though the catching was far from easy. 🤣🦞💪🏻
“While the lobster is chilling 😎”
G Junior - Haha. I thought you’d like that. 😉
Yeah, that's cold! And I love it! Hahahaha
I live along the beach in Washington State, US. I absolutely love going out and foraging the flats during low tide. I wish we had lobster here! But we've got a lot of Rock Crab, Dungeness Crab, Cockles, Manilla Clams, Butter Clams, Varnish Clams, Horse Clams and Mussels. Its a great day to spend it walking about and finish it with a tasty bake at the end! Love watching these foraging videos. Can't wait for the lockdown to be over and I can get out there again!
- That sounds like a bountiful place you live CJ. I believe your Rock Crab is the same as our brown edible crab. Slow but delicious. Let us all hope that this troubling time passes swiftly. Take care, stay safe and happy foraging. :)
I don't mind being quarantined.I'm retired and the ice is just getting off of the larger rivers now.I get to watch fishing videos all day and make carp rigs and Musky traces. Score! If this helps with preventing the spread of this contagion, then it's well worth it..
- I agree sir. I love fishing and the shore and am itching to get outside but if this lockdown is what is required to keep people safe then it is a very necessary and worthwhile sacrifice. Take care and stay safe. :)
"Man, that looks so Beautiful out there!" I just love the Ocean life!' 😄😄😄
- We do live in a very abundant area. 👍
Just a fantastic melding of nature and dinner. The explanations of the animals predelictions, regardless of whether it’s edible or not is awesome.
- It is our pleasure Jay, we are simply sharing what we know and love doing. I am glad that you enjoyed the video and found it informative. :D
What a lovely surprise to see a Fish Locker post. I always feel as though I am right there foraging the coast line.
Kerry Hughes - Thank you Kerry, we try to always make our weekly Friday upload. I am glad that you could join me on the shore, if you think that any of your friends would enjoy the distraction of our videos, please share them on.😊🦞👍🏻
It makes me very happy to see that you do not try to destroy the habitats while foraging. I have seen so many people that would tear apart an area to get to a crab or other animal without concern just as long as they get their prize. I can tell you have great respect for nature and try to preserve it for generations to come.
My goodness, he's even got the names of the vegetation! Fascinating!
- I started to add them in to the videos because some folks couldn't understand my accent when I was saying them. Just trying to take the sharing of information to the next level. 😊
I was just saying it's been so long since I've watched some coastal foraging.. I love how calming your videos are
Ameilia Gill - Ameilia I am so very glad that we can bring you a calming distraction. Especially with the stressful world we are now living in. Please, if you think that any of your friends would enjoy the videos, share them on. Best wishes and stay safe. 😊🦞💙
Thanks for 34min of interesting enjoyment John as usual your content is like going on a treasure hunt you just hope to find something valuable and you proved that with a little effort you can eat like kings for free, thanks again for cheering us up at this most worrying time regarding our health, stay well you and your family.👍😀
Andreas Chapman - As always Andreas, it is our pleasure. We send you our best wishes and stay safe. 😊🦞💙
I love fishing as much as the next guy but also foraging is so much fun. It’s a treasure hunt and adventure. Great find on that lobster and it’s a keeper on top of it!! Looks delicious. 👍😉
SaltychAos - I love all of it! And I totally agree, like finding hidden treasure. She was a delicious lobster. So glad to have found her. 😊🦞
My Dad used to go crab and lobster hunting, coming from the Lizard. He used his fathers crab hook to help get them out of the holes. As a child we were taken with him on many adventure. Thanks for reminding me, sadly he passed away but leaves his legacy.
- I am sorry to hear of your loss. My grandad was the same and taught me many things. Lessons I hope to pass on to my little boy. I hope you and your family are well Mandy and stay safe. :)
That is a lesson on how to keep the other half happy. Great video again.
- Aye, she keeps me happy by letting me go and play on the beach. :P
Dude, i don't know what you are, but your knowledge of Marine life is absolutely fantastic. This is the second vid i am watching and liked and subscribed after the first one. Great stuff and thank you for your time.
- I am glad to see that you are enjoying working your way through our content Landon. Take care and stay safe. :D
She was a beauty! Glad to see someone foraging instead of buying. Wish we could all do that.
Gwen Wells - Thank you Gwen, we love foraging on the shore. It is always a special thing to be able to bring food to your families table. 😊🦞🍽
Me and my girlfriend stayed up all night watching your foraging videos, they're really great can't wait until you can get back at it! Maybe when this crazy virus has passed we'll try it ourselves
- Hi Taylor, I am glad that you are your good lady enjoyed the videos. Hopefully this stressful time will pass quickly and we will all be able to go and enjoy the shore again. :)
My favorite are the baby stars and crabs.
Thanks for showing us creatures we never usually get to see. 😁
- It is our pleasure. I am glad to be able to share our passion with you all. :)
Stay safe when foraging man
Fabrizio Nathan - There will be no more for a little while. We all need to obey the government lockdown to help control this terrible virus. Stay safe. 😊👍🏻
I've just got bk from a short break down Cornwall, an the last day we and the family visited this beach, we had loads of fun looking for the small crabs an different animals in the pools. Watching Ur videos I could even tell the children some of names of stuff 😊😊 thank you
That is wonderful, it is a great little spot isn't it. Just keep the location to yourselves 😉
The colour and bio diversity would even give the great barrier reef a run for its money. Stunning.
- I have been fortunate enough to have seen and dived on the barrier reef and it is breathtaking, but I honestly believe that areas of the UK coast are just as amazing in their own way. :D
Fish locker : *removes jacket*
Lobster : why do I hear boss music
Remi - Haha. When the jacket comes off you know shits gonna get real!!! 😎🦞
What is boss music?
@@robertforrester578 in videogames, usually when you are approaching a boss fight, ominous music starts playing as dramatic effect.
@@artofwargh Thank you. I'm of a different generation. But I do know about bosses. My boss is a douch-bag. Funny thing is . . . I'm self employed.
Robert Forrester - That did actually make me chuckle. 😆
I hope you and your lovely family are safe at home. I laughed out loud at your enthusiasm for that monster of a lobster. We get the same thrill when fishing for pickerel. Love it!! Being under this lockdown is taxing on the mind. So I turn to youtube, and go to the shore with you. Thank you. Take care 🇨🇦
- Delphine I am so very glad if our videos can bring people even a short distraction from the stresses that are going on right now. Please, if you think that any of your friends would enjoy the distraction, share the videos on. I hope you stay safe and take care. :D
Thanks for showing the humane way to cook a lobster! Stay safe!🦞🦀🦞
- It is our pleasure. There is still debate on wether lobsters feel pain at all. Some feel that stabbing the brain is humane - but if you actually look at lobsters anatomy they do not have a central nervous system. They have 12 ganglia down their whole body, and you need to sever all of them to despatch the animal completely. This method is far more humane. :D
This guy is a natural teacher, great father figure
- Thank you Brick and welcome to our channel, we are simply sharing what we love doing. :D
I got mad respect for the way you forage. You take only what u need and leave some for them to propagate. Love the channel. Your friend from across the pond. 😎
- Thank you very much. I am glad that you share our passion and that the message transfers across in the video. It is something I hope we can share with everyone. Take only what you need and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. Take care and stay safe. 😊

- Hi David, thank you very much. I'm glad you're enjoying the content. I visited Oz maybe 16 years back. Northern Queensland Cairns to Cooktown. Beautiful place. I don't when but hopefully we will make it back over at some point. Take care. :D
You can't beat putting "it" in the hole and wiggling it about. Great video John.
Another fantastic foraging video! The underwater shots were great! My mouth is watering for some lobster right now. Thanks
- Hi Laurie, I am glad that you enjoyed the video. The life in those rockpools is so vibrant isn't it. I will be back here for sure. Not to rub it in but that lobster really was delicious. :P Best wishes to you and your family and stay safe. :)
The picture quality is excellent John and the sound didn't detract at all from another great foraging video. I also thought when you found that spear 'that would make a good crab hook'🦀 😊 Great minds think alike.😊
RicTic66 - Thanks Rich. I really had to work hard at editing the sound. This video probably took 6 hours to edit without exaggeration just due to the sound issues. I will experiment further 😉🦞👍🏻
I have so much respect for you after watching you put that lobster in the freezer to induce a coma.
- It is by far the most humane way of dealing with them. The way I see some people cut them apart whilst they are still alive is very sad. Take care Magdalena. :)
If you cook and eat these at home I'd love videos on those. Dont even care if your a good cook or not watching seafood be prepped is so pleasing to me lol

@@TheFishLocker
The world needs to hear the voices of competent men. Not saying we don't need to hear what women have to say, or anything like that. But how do I put this into words. You are competent in something that you love to do. You are a fantastic fisherman and hunter. That takes, intelligence, dedication, and discipline to learn how to do the things that you know how to do. And on top of that you are able to share what you know, and share it very well, with a fantastic voice. You are patient with your son, when you take him with you, not all the time obviously which is fine you know but, you have a patient way with him, not all Dads choose to do that. The world needs hear from fathers like you. The world needs to hear the voice of someone who competent, who is able. And I think that you have a good way of seeing and saying things, and teaching, and I believe that that probably applies to more things than fishing. So I think if you decided to talk about things that are important for living, there's probably lots of folks that would listen to you. It's not an easy world we live in, people love what they see in your videos, creatures they probably never even knew existed, it is a unique talent to be able to show people things they have never seen, and teach them about how to do things they didn't know about, which they suddenly find themselves wanting desperately to try and do themselves. You are inspiring, which is not something everyone can manage. You have a good voice, and I think people like listening to you talk. Some times I think people need to hear a steady voice. Thank you for sharing what see, and I believe people want to hear anything you might feel the desire to talk about. God bless you and your family.

Always a inspiration watching your videos. Such a great way of showing what's available and free to eat. Living by the coast is the best of both worlds wild game and fresh shell fish. Who needs supermarkets!
Graham Marshall - I couldn’t agree more Graham. I do so love the coast. Best wishes to you and your family and stay safe. 😊👍🏻🦞
I saw somebody already asked what that was at 23:00, I thought it was a dead inverted octopus but on closer inspection it was a starfish as the comment below said. I was surprised you didn't say anything but as you so often point out, the tide pools are full of life. If you were to point out every organism you would't get 2 yards into it! As always love the videos, you are a true "Salt of the Earth/Sea?" guy and I love the videos. Congrats on 100k subscribers!
- Haha. Yeah it was a nice sized starfish, I actually did say something about it but the wind noise was so bad in that clip I had to edit it out. And as as you say Paul. If I stopped to describe every organism I wouldn't 2 yards down the rocks. I am glad that you're enjoying the videos and take care. :)
You amazed me the first time I watched you foraging. This time even more awesome. How you can walk past a pool and identify all that life is unbelievable. There is a strong lesson in there folks. Familiarise yourself with your natural surroundings and reap the rewards.

Evidence of a strong eco system, John? I’ve been fishing for 50+ years but I’m learning from you... keep up the great videos.
- I'm learning every day mate. And i hope I never stop. ;)
Beautiful lobster and cooked to perfection, my mouths watering just thinking about all that sweet meat😁😋😋😋😋
Elizabeth Grant - She was absolutely delicious. 😊🦞🍽💙
Another beauty. I'm lucky enough to know the local lobster guy so I can go to the boat, but foraging one for yourself is next level! 🤘
- Sounds like hes a good man to know. ;) Foraging or catching one yourself however is a really rewarding experience. :)
Thanks for the videos they are really informative and help people learn more about the ocean! There always seems to be new things to learn in life!

John Locker ate the tail, his wife she ate the claws and in between the two of them they picked the lobster clean! Sorry, couldn't resist! Another beautiful video! Thanks and stay safe!
- Haha. Its not quite the story of Jack Sprat but its close enough. :P
@@TheFishLocker setting a sprat to catch a lobster?
There are also fine edible soft parts in the head and body, but most Europeans and Americans don't go there. Pity!
@@notmyworld44 I always enjoy the tomalley, liver.
@@notmyworld44 I do! Also use the stripped shell to make a lobster stock. A few shellfish and some passata and herbs and you have a meal!
The way you talk about your wife is so lovely 💜
- Well she is the love of my life. :D
What a beauty! Also, those iridescent seaweeds were lovely. I've never seen such a thing before.
